EQUIPMENT TORCHED, BARRICADES BURNED IN ND AS #NODAPL SOLIDARITY PROTESTS SPREAD

Solidarity actions are springing up around the country in response to the massive police raid on the “frontlines” camp in Standing Rock against the Dakota Access Pipeline. The eviction saw hundreds of militarized police attack the encampment with armored vehicles, tasers, pepper spray, concussion grenades, LRADS, and good old fashioned bone crushing batons.

Buffalo arrive at Standing Rock during showdown with authorities.

In response warriors set up burning barricades, threw rocks, torched several large pieces of pipeline machinery and 2 security vehicles, and briefly invaded an active construction site. The Sheriff is also claiming that molotovs were thrown at police and that there were two incidents involving gunfire. At least one burning barricade was maintained through the night. While the frontlines camp has been evicted, the main encampments are still going strong and asking for supporters to join them. Refusal of aid to Haiti shows real level of US humanitarian concern

article-1244225-07e9d54d000005dc-681_634x424The US is happy to spend over $15 million EVERY DAY bombing and droning its enemies in Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Somalia, etc, but can’t spare the change, offering  a ridiculous $13 million so far to help desperate Hurricane Matthew victims in Haiti, where it has a clear historic and moral responsibility. As of 6 October 2016 only $1.3 million has been specifically reported for the Hurricane Matthew response in Haiti.

JEREMIE, Haiti – Rickety structures made of sheet metal and scrap wood are clustered along the road to the Haitian city of Jeremie, which still hasn’t seen any aid nearly 3 weeks after Hurricane Matthew.

In a scene that is eerily similar to the devastation in Port-au-Prince after the 2010 earthquake, when hundreds of thousands of survivors had to cram into every available space, families are living in makeshift camps. Spanish State forces Bullfighting on Catalans

Corrupt Court to cancel Ban on Bullfighting in Catalonia

Children are bloodied in the ”cultural heritage” of public animal torture

Public Killing and Torturing bulls will be legalised again in Catalunya by order of the central government. This is the latest of a series of blatantly anti Catalan orders by the Spanish Constitutional and Supreme  Courts.

The Courts are politically controlled and have always supported dubious, self serving and even openly fascist proposals instigated by the far right 1% and the Catholic Church. The ban on bullfighting in Catalonia is seen as a traitorous way of asserting that ‘Catalonia is not Spain’.

Bullfighting is defined (by them) as “common cultural heritage” of Spain and can not be vetoed by a regional law, says the court, due to a clause in the Constitution which gives cultural heritage to the Central Government.

Bullfighting is the cultural heritage of the Conquest, in Spain it represents the exaltation of torture and legitimation of authoritarian male abuse and violence. Continue reading “Spanish State forces Bullfighting on Catalans”

Spain doing Fine: There’s No Government like No Government

Spain Hasn’t Had a central Government for the Last 9 Months — and People Love Itno-government

Only 2.3 percent of respondents in a July poll by Spain’s Center for Sociological Investigations considered the lack of government the country’s major problem, and the figure is getting even smaller.”

adapted from a  Derrick Brose post in TheAnti-Media.org.. with thanks

For more than nine months, Spain has existed without a traditional national government. In the face of this lack of central authority and planning, Spaniards have done ”the impossible”: they have thrived without a government.smash-capitalism

Spanish politicians warned the people that allowing the national government to fade away could have disastrous effects. However, as the New York Times notes, “the crisis seems to have offered a glimpse of life if politicians simply stepped out of the way. For many here, it has not been all that bad.”

No government, no thieves,” Félix Pastor, a language teacher, told the Times. Pastor said the people of Spain were better without a government because the politicians were unable to cause any more harm. Rafael Navarro, a 71-year old pharmacy owner in Madrid, told the Times that “Spain would be just fine if we got rid of most of the politicians ...” Continue reading “Spain doing Fine: There’s No Government like No Government”

UK fracking gets go-ahead as Lancashire Council overruled

  BY DAVID

Sajid Javid has overturned Lancashire council’s rejection of a fracking site, paving the way for shale company Cuadrilla to drill in the county next year and provoking outrage from local groups, environmentalists and politicians.

The council cited visual impact and noise when it turned down the company’s two planning applications to frack on the Fylde last year, but a month later Cuadrilla submitted an appeal.

On Thursday, the communities secretary, Javid, said he had accepted the appeal for one of the sites, at Preston New Road. The move marks a major step up in the scale of exploratory fracking in the UK, as it green lights four wells compared to the single well approved for fracking in North Yorkshire earlier this year.

Standing Rock.. Blockade goes on.. Oil+ Gas = Climate Chaos

Supporters of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe rally in opposition of the Dakota Access oil pipeline in front of the White House, Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, in Washington. The company developing the $3.8 billion Dakota Access pipeline says it is committed to the project, despite strong opposition and a federal order to halt construction near an American Indian reservation in North Dakota. Protests continue near the Standing Rock camp at the Dakota Access Pipeline construction site in North Dakota despite the Justice Department’s order to stop construction on Army Corps of Engineer land. Twenty-one water protectors were arrested on Wednesday alone as militarized police with armored vehicles and shotguns descended upon peaceful protesters. The protesters were arrested for trespassing and resisting arrest, among other charges, Rob Keller of the Morton County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to Anti-Media.

But local Native Americans are not alone in this fight. Tribes from all over the country have joined together in one of the largest shows of indigenous solidarity in history — and they are joined by climate activists, farmers, and landowners who have had theirland confiscated through the force of eminent domain in order make room for the pipeline.
