Activists step up actions against arms company in a third week of targeted disruption
Palestine Action says seven of its activists attached themselves this morning to vehicles and blocked the entrance to Elbit Systems’ UK headquarters.
Two other groups targeted the offices of JP Morgan Chase and a Barclays Bank branch in Altrincham overnight.
“Elbit Systems uses Gaza as a laboratory to develop their weaponry, a business model which has no place in any society”, said the group.
“By arming Israel and allowing Elbit to operate in this country, our political establishment have failed to abide by their legal and moral obligations to end complicity in the Gaza genocide”.
Last week, activists invaded the Kent premises of Instro Precision, where thay began “dismantling technology, machinery and parts” involved in the “manufacture of scopes, sights, and targeting equipment for Israel’s exterminationist military”.
The banks, who continue to invest in the Israeli arms company, had their windows smashed and red paint thrown over their fronts.
JP Morgan Chase reduced their stake in Elbit by 70% a month ago, but their remaining investment is currently valued at around$16million.

Earlier this month, 20 branches of Barclays Bank in England and Scotland were targeted by Palestine Action and Shut It Down, a direct action group targeting companies who finance climate chaos.

Assange to plead guilty to one charge of espionage and return home to Australia after decades fighting US extradition.
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been freed from prison in the United Kingdom and is travelling home to Australia after he pleads guilty to a single charge of breaching the espionage law in the United States.
Assange, 52, will plead guilty to one count of conspiring to obtain and disclose classified US national defence documents, according to a filing in the US District Court for the Northern Mariana Islands.
He was freed from the UK’s high-security Belmarsh prison on Monday and taken to the airport where he flew out of the country. Assange will appear at a court in Saipan, a US Pacific territory at 9am on Wednesday (23:00 GMT on Tuesday) where he will be sentenced to 62 months of time already served.
“Julian Assange is free,” Wikileaks said in a statement posted on X.
“He left Belmarsh maximum security prison on the morning of 24 June, after having spent 1901 days there. He was granted bail by the High Court in London and was released at Stanstead airport during the afternoon, where he boarded a plane and departed the UK.”

MOSCOW, June 19. /TASS/. Moscow demands that Washington withdraw all US nuclear weapons from Europe and eliminate the infrastructure for their deployment, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing.
The US recently certified their F35A fighters stationed in European bases to carry the new ‘programmable’ B61-12 nukes now being delivered to German. Belgian, Dutch, Italian and soon British US military bases.
“Regardless of the combat readiness of the weapons allocated for NATO’s joint nuclear missions, this extremely destabilizing practice in itself remains the most serious problem for the security of the continent,” the diplomat said.
Poland and the Baltic countries have asked NATO to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in their territories, and countries including Germany and Italy have called for expanding the authority to use tactical nuclear weapons deployed in Europe to ‘support the region’s defense capacity building’.

Zakharova pointed out that said missions are based on the forward deployment of US weapons in Europe “thousands of kilometers away from the US national territory and within operational reach of Russian territory.”
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in an interview with The Daily Telegraph that NATO member states have begun consultations on the need to put nuclear weapons on alert. He also said that the United States and its European allies are currently updating their nuclear arsenals.

In this post, I want to highlight two papers profiling a single key idea: Thinking about the future with our present conceptual baggage is like thinking of travelling to the stars on a chariot or dreaming about freedom inside a jail.
The control of the future?
The idea is well captured in Mark Lazy’s paper1 “The Future of Control/The Control of the Future:”
In this article, I want to suggest that, while it might be risky to predict specific events or the emergence of specific technologies, I think we can provide a ‘sketch’ of the challenges and desires that might be central to the political, economic, social, and ethical problems that will intensify in the years out to 2074.

The multiplication of security challenges, together with technologies and actors, in particular non-state actors, will likely continue to accelerate over the next 50 years. The desire for control is fundamental to the politics of security in modernity.
States will seek to produce societies of control to produce order and security in a situation of domestic disruption and foreign ‘interference’
Individuals, groups, and non-state actors might be able to engage in activities with dramatic impacts, the type of actions previously only states would be able to orchestrate: individuals exploring technology and biology, groups exploring the possibilities of AI for nefarious activities, criminals exploring the potential of robotics (and AI and robotics) to create new crimes of the future.

The Houthis have announced that they now possess and are testing ‘unstoppable’ hypersonic missiles. Doubt has been cast on that assertion since the USA has been unable to develop them with a $Trillion defense budget.
However Iran does now possess them, and allegedly used one to destroy an Israeli base in the Negev desert, forcing Israel to back down for the first time after the Iranian retaliation attack.
Iran is a Shia ally of the Houthis in their 9 year war against US backed Saudi colonization and may well have passed key information on hypersonic missile construction to the advanced Houthi defense industry.
The invention of Russian and Chinese hypersonic missiles at up to 20 times the speed of sound in theory makes prestigious Aircraft Carriers into obsolete ‘sitting ducks’.
The Houthis may be the first to prove this, and the sudden departure of the giant USS Eisenhower, which was directing the attacks on Yemen, without an immediate replacement, may be for fear of its disastrous destruction.
