Dear Friends,

Let’s start with thank you. The support and solidarity we have received over the past six weeks, but especially this weekend, has been overwhelming.

On Saturday, we were harshly evicted, with police brutality and a demonstration of power. More on this later, but for now: so much love for everyone who stood there with us. And especially so much love for the people who voluntarily exposed themselves to state violence, prosecution and very literal physical violence by the police.

Many thanks to Extinction Rebellion and Comrade Twingo without whom the eviction would have been a lot easier for the police. Thanks to everyone who helped us ensure that Hotel Mokum could not be quietly swept away. But also thank you to everyone who supported us in any other way, this weekend and for the past six weeks.

You are all so amazing and so fucking brave and we couldn’t have done this without you.

The enormous support we have received in such a short period of time says something about the size of the problem. Places like Hotel Mokum are much needed. What we experienced this weekend was a demonstration of the power of the movement and the community, of old and new supporters.

The exaggerated use of power by the police and the municipality shows that the housing struggle and the squatting movement are a serious threat to the system.

Let’s not forget that what happened this weekend is an attack on free spaces and alternative culture everywhere, that it shows that the municipality is prioritising the rights of property owners over the rights of people to live and work, that this is unacceptable, that we need to keep fighting and most of all let’s not forget that we are fucking angry!

Aún peor ahora albergamos los 4 Destructores de Mísiles Balísticos más avanzados de EEUU en la base de la OTAN en Rota. Estos buques deben ser eliminados en los primeros minutos de una guerra ya “difícil de evitar” según Putin, porque amanezcan el arsenal nuclear de Rusia.

Además, España sigue con tropas y tanques contra Rusia en Letonia, donde el Gobierno, apoyado y armado por EEUU, se juntan al coro diario exigiendo un ataque de los ultraderechistas Ucranios contra la población Rusa en Donbas.

Mientras tanto Rusia por su parte ha estrenado sus nuevos misiles hipersónicos que van a 27 veces la velocidad del sonido, dejando obsoleto las defensas de la OTAN. (ver abajo)

La crisis crece al rojo vivo. Rusia se encuentra obligada a defender a un millón de sus ciudadanos en la región sublevada de Donbas, mientras la OTAN arma e insta a los “nazis” del oeste de Ucrania a atacarlos, rompiendo totalmente el tratado de Kyiv.

Aquí en España parece que ni la media, ni el público ni el Gobierno están consciente del peligro existencial.

Ex-soldier walks free as sentence suspended in rape and kidnap case

A Turkish court has handed down a suspended sentence to a former non commissioned officer standing trial for raping İpek Er, an 18-year-old Kurdish woman who was later driven to committing suicide, local media reported on Friday.

In the sixth and final hearing of his trial on Friday, former soldier Musa Orhan was given a suspended sentence of 10 years by the Siirt 1st High Criminal Court on conviction of sexual assault.

Since the sentence was suspended, Orhan wasn’t arrested but was rather placed under judicial supervision, Turkish media reports said.

Human Rights Association (İHD) co-chair and lawyer Eren Keskin on Friday condemned Turkish judiciary for letting Orhan walk free.

“İpek Er ended her life after the sexual assault she experienced. The attacker is free and most likely will.. not ‘serve’ the sentence he was given. This is a place where a uniform and a wolf sign are held as ‘superior’ to both domestic and international law,” Keskin tweeted, referring to a photo of Orhan released by the Turkish media showing him making a hand sign of the nazi Grey Wolves, representing a wolf’s head.

Richard Johnson (Jamaica Observer) writes, “Fresh on the heels of his critically acclaimed film King Richard, director Reinaldo Marcus Green is speaking about his next film project — the Bob Marley biopic.” [Many thanks to Peter Jordens for bringing this item to our attention.]

The director has indicated that the film, which is currently in pre-production, will radiate from the 1976 assassination attempt on Marley at his 56 Hope Road base in St Andrew, the resulting exile in London and the recording of the album Exodus during that period.

“Our film starts in ’76 and really it’s about the making of Exodus,” Green told the online news outlet collider.com. “That would indeed be the perfect window to look at Bob Marley’s life, in a period where the artist is forced to reflect upon his roots and the international reach of his love message to humanity,” he continued.

On December 3, 1976, an assassination attempt was made on Marley’s life in which his chest was grazed and his arm was struck with a bullet. His wife Rita and Manager Don Taylor were also injured in the attack. Following this attack, Marley left Jamaica for London, where Exodus was recorded.
