On New Year’s Eve gather your crew, collective, community, organization, or just yourself and come together to raise a racket and remind those on the inside that they are not alone.

Internationally, noise demonstrations outside of prisons are a way to remember those who are held captive by the state and a way to show solidarity with imprisoned comrades and loved ones. We come together to break the loneliness and isolation.

Various women from Slovenia, Pakistan, Hungary, Croatia, England, USA and Poland show solidarity with the revolution in Rojava and condemn the illegal war of aggression and occupation of Turkey on Northeast Syria since 9 October. They draw parallel between the attack on Rojava and attack on the achievements of the liberation struggle of women worldwide. The revolution in Rojava was marked by the liberation of women and inspires many women in the world. In this context, the following women have spoken for the ANF.

In my hands, I hold the book: »Revolution in Rojava, Democratic autonomy and Women’s liberation in Syrian Kurdistan«, written by Anja Flach, Ercan Ayboga and Michael Knapp.

I am most fascinated about the social experiment of direct democracy, which developed in multi-ethnic and multi-religious areas of Northern Syria during

the Civil War, representing a peaceful democratic alternative for Syria and the Middle East, an alternative for Syria and the whole world.

It represents the possibility of overcoming conflicts, religious, national, and political, which maintain permanent war, and the destructive interventions of regional and foreign military.

In Rojava, you create a model of calm coexistence and self-determination for all communities of the Syrian mosaic. It is priceless that at the core of this project you recognize the liberation of women and deconstruction of patriarchal social patterns and institutions.

With great honor and pride, I accepted the invitation to join demonstrations in Budapest last October in support of revolution in Rojava and to protest against Erdogan’s visit to Orban and Hungary.

Just some notes.. Planting trees isn’t as easy as I thought. I plant maybe 10 a year and most of them die coz I forgot to water in the Spanish summer heat. But with every climate report more catastrophic and convincing (see below) it seems a basic idea to find out how to plant 1000 trees before I die, at least for the kids sake.

Of course trees just store CO2, and if someone burns or bulldozes my trees I’ve wasted my time. And the science of forest carbon sinks is a welter of contradictions. But all agree that the bigger the forest , the more carbon it stores, especially when growing.

Many researchers claim that reforesting the billions of hectares of degraded, abandoned or arid land could stop Climate Chaos for a generation. Okay, dismantling capitalism is the real answer, but time is running out. (It’s not a betrayal, just as a revolutionary Union accepts a wage rise!) So let’s just make the forests bigger! Indeed the rise in CO2 and nitrogen will help them grow!

First problem is where to plant. Okay, we can put a few trees in gardens and vacant lots, the more the better, and they say don’t forget native plants and bushes that are just as important. But to plant a lot of trees, even living in the country, confronts us with capitalist property rights, and even if you can find the last plot of common land it’s pretty sure someone will grab it or let loose their fucking goats.

One answer is to organize, and meanwhile get those first seedlings going in pots. There’s lots of institutions looking for volunteer tree planters.. most of them pretty capitalist IMHO. Look out for Greenwashers and polluters angling for carbon credit cash!
