Update on the situation of Monica Caballero and Francisco Solar

from claudicarnuncarendirsejamas, with thanks, Oct 20 2015

It’s been almost two long years since the anarchists Monica and Francisco were jailed on charges of belonging to a terrorist organization, criminal damage  and conspiracy . During this time they have lived in the isolation cells of various Spanish prisons, experiencing the dreaded ‘FIES’ regime and dispersion, but always reaffirming their ideas and illustrating once again the insurmountable gap between the world that anarchists pursue and that imposed by Power.

Two years is a long time. There has been time, for example, to perform two more antiterrorist operations, Pandora and Piñata, connecting the three cases by the acronym GAC-FAI-FRI and charging a total of 25 comrades from different parts of the peninsula with ‘terrorism’. There  has been also enough time for us to understand the challenge of imprisonment, solidarity and closer links between comrades.

Rojava: the real frontline against ISIS; inside the Kurdish revolution

Undercover1's avatarUndercoverInfo

Since their successful defense of Kobanê against the Islamic State a year ago, the Kurdish resistance movement – specifically the YPG (men’s milita) and YPJ (women’s militia) – has captured international media attention. Meanwhile, their experiment in forming a stateless society in the autonomous cantons of Rojava have fascinated anarchists across the world. But in order to understand this Kurdish resistance in Rojava (western Kurdistan) we need to take a broader look at the struggles for freedom and autonomy across the region. Below is an interview with two members of a network of internationalist anarchists in Germany who spent time in Bakur (northern Kurdistan), learning from the struggles taking place there. Beginning with a historical overview of the emergence of the Kurdish movement and the PKK’s “new paradigm” of the last decade they describe how their experiences in Kurdistan reframed their understanding of anarchist struggles elsewhere across the globe.

Chris Hedges: Death by Fracking

Rise Up Times's avatarRise Up Times

The corporate state, largely to pacify citizens being frog-marched to their own execution, passes environmental laws and regulations that, at best, slow the ongoing environmental destruction. Corporations, which routinely ignore even these tepid restrictions, largely write the laws and legislation designed to regulate their activity.

DENVER—The maniacal drive by the human species to extinguish itself includes a variety of lethal pursuits. One of the most efficient is fracking. One day, courtesy of corporations such as Halliburton, BP and ExxonMobil, a gallon of water will cost more than a gallon of gasoline. Fracking, which involves putting chemicals into potable water and then injecting millions of gallons of the…

Kropotkin was Right: Cooperation beats Competition

New studies are proving false whole libraries that claim humans are innately selfish and cruel. Starting with a false view of Darwin’s theory of Evolution right wing leaders of opinion have built a tower of lies to justify their crimes against humanity, as argued from the beginning by the anarchist Peter Kropotkin. Humans are innately cooperative and empathetic, and this gives us the basis for a new kind of non-capitalist system. We reprint below a new article by the influential science journalist George Monbiot on these themes.

Human Kindmutual aid

new evidence shows human cooperation and empathy predominate

Fascinating new lines of research suggest that we are good people, tolerating bad things.

By  George Monbiot,

Do you find yourself thrashing against the tide of human indifference and selfishness? Are you oppressed by the sense that while you care, others don’t? That because of humankind’s callousness, civilisation and the rest of life on earth are basically stuffed? If so, you are not alone. But neither are you right.

A study by the Common Cause Foundation, due to be published next month, reveals two transformative findings. The first is that a large majority of the 1000 people they surveyed – 74% – identify more strongly with unselfish values than with selfish values. This means that they are more interested in helpfulness, honesty, forgiveness and justice than in money, fame, status and power. The second is that a similar majority – 78% – believes others to be more selfish than they really are. In other words, we have made a terrible mistake about other people’s minds. 3carte-octobre-2015

Since 3rd October 2015, the night when 200 migrants attempted to cross the fences in Ceuta and 87 succeeded to do so, several other attempts where made by hundreds of migrants. Afterwards, Morocco increased the military presence and border security measures at the fences.

On 9th October 2015, a Cameroonian and a Guinean migrant died during their attempt to cross the border. The two persons were on a boat which tried to enter Ceuta in the morning of 9th October. However, they were intercepted by the Moroccan Royal Marine, were severely beaten and subsequently died. A dozen of other persons present on the boat and therefore witnesses to these facts, were put in a van, locked in it for 12 hours and subsequently taken to the Fnideq police station. http://cadenaser.com/ser/2015/10/09/internacional/1444425919_850628.html

During these days, all the attempts to cross the border were suppressed with the use of extreme violence by the…
