Germany stands on Wrong Side of history again – Strategic Culture Foundation

Germany and the United States along with other Western powers are continuing deep-seated historical crimes by way of their proxy war against Russia

from https://wp.me/pIJl9-BRl on 14th April 2024 by Strategic-Culture Foundation via Nicolas Cinquini

Germany is Israel’s 2nd biggest arms supplier after the US

The repeating of history might seem tragic, even farcical. One may wonder how such apparent madness can be repeated. But the explanation is straightforward when it is understood that the motive force is the same.

The charge against Germany at the International Court of Justice this week of aiding genocide in Gaza is truly shameful. Germany was brought to court by Nicaragua for facilitating Israel’s genocide in Gaza in breach of the 1948 Genocide Convention.

That convention was created in the aftermath of Nazi Germany’s mass murder of six million Jews during World War Two. Only 79 years after the end of that war, the German state is again in the dock for complicity in an ongoing genocide in Gaza committed by a self-declared Jewish state of Israel.

It seems a shocking and deplorable twist in history. Within living memory, Germany stands accused again of abominable crimes against humanity.

What is even more disgraceful, the German authorities are denying that Israel is committing genocide and that Germany is nobly defending Israel’s security out of a special obligation owing to its heinous World War Two holocaust.

Germany’s supposed rationale for supporting Israel is an astounding perversion of history.

Germany joins Israel in dock for genocide… Western imperialism’s perverse evolution

The case against Germany this week is incontestable as was the earlier case brought against Israel by South Africa in January before the same United Nations court at The Hague. A definitive ruling by the court on both cases is pending.

Nevertheless, already world public opinion is in concurrence with numerous international legal and human rights experts that Israel’s military siege of the Gaza Strip amounts to genocide and incorporates multiple violations of international law. Ergo, Germany’s culpability.

Swiss women win climate victory at Court of Human Rights- appealing over Broken Promises causing deaths of 1000’s of old people in Heatwaves

Europe’s highest human rights court has ruled that its member nations have an obligation to protect their citizens from the effects of the climate crisis in a landmark ruling.

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) sided with more than 2,000 Swiss members of Senior Women for Climate Protection, who had argued that their government’s inadequate efforts to combat climate change put them at risk of dying during heatwaves.

Court president Siofra O’Leary said the Swiss government had violated the human right to a private and family life, by failing to put in place sufficient domestic policies to tackle climate change.

“This included a failure to quantify, through a carbon budget or otherwise, national greenhouse gas emissions limitations,” president O’Leary told the courtroom. She also noted the Swiss government had failed to meet its past greenhouse gas emission reduction targets, by not putting in place measures to ensure the goals were achieved.

One of the Senior Women for Climate Protection’s leaders, Rosmarie Wydler-Walti, said she was struggling to grasp the full extent of the decision. “We keep asking our lawyers, ‘Is that right?’. And they tell us ‘it’s the most you could have had. The biggest victory possible’.”

“This ruling is not just a victory for the Senior Women for Climate Protection. Our victory is a victory for all generations,” she added in a statement.

The Federal Office of Justice, which represents the Swiss government at the court, has taken note of the ruling, the government said, adding: “Together with the authorities concerned, we will now analyse the extensive judgment and review what measures Switzerland will take in the future.”

The European court’s decision on the case could have a ripple effect across Europe and beyond, setting a precedent for how some courts deal with the rising tide of climate litigation argued on the basis of human rights infringements.

Although activists have had successes with lawsuits in domestic proceedings, this was the first time an international court ruled on climate change.

However, the court threw out a high-profile case brought by six Portuguese youngsters aimed at forcing countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. A case brought by a French mayor similarly seeking stronger government efforts to combat climate change was also defeated.

Those involved in bringing the three cases had hoped the Strasbourg court would find that national governments have a legal duty to make sure global warming is held to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels, in line with the goals of the Paris climate agreement.

Iran launches drone and missile attack against Israel: Live updates

Published 11:40 PM GMT+2, April 13, 2024

Iran launched its first direct military attack against Israel on Saturday. The Israeli military says Iran fired more than 100 bomb-carrying drones toward Israel. Hours later, Iran announced it had also launched much more destructive ballistic missiles.

Iran had been threatening to attack Israel after an airstrike earlier this month widely blamed on Israel destroyed Iran’s consulate in Syria, killing 12 people, including two elite Iranian generals.

President Joe Biden cut short a weekend stay at his Delaware beach house to meet with his national security team and monitor the situation in the Middle East.

UN chief calls for an immediate stop to hostilities

Objects flying over the sky were seen from the West Bank, while booms and air raid sirens have sounded in Jerusalem after Iran launched dozens of drones and ballistic missiles toward Israel in an unprecedented revenge mission that pushes the Middle East closer to a regionwide war..

U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres is calling for an immediate halt to hostilities in the Middle East.

“I strongly condemn the serious escalation represented by the large-scale attack launched on Israel by the Islamic Republic of Iran this evening,” Guterres wrote in a statement Saturday night.

“I am deeply alarmed about the very real danger of a devastating region-wide escalation. I urge all parties to exercise maximum restraint to avoid any action that could lead to major military confrontations on multiple fronts in the Middle East,” Guterres wrote. “I have repeatedly stressed that neither the region nor the world can afford another war.”

  • US National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson says President Biden is being “regularly updated” and that Iran’s “attack is likely to unfold over a number of hours”.
  • The drone attacks were reported on Saturday night shortly after Hamas said it had handed its response for a ceasefire proposal in Gaza to mediators in Egypt and Qatar.

Israel’s air defence system has not faced attack of this magnitude before

reporting from occupied East Jerusalem

We’ve been looking out from the balcony here across the Jerusalem skyline. And we’ve seen a succession of air defence interceptors going up from various points around the city to meet targets in the sky.

And now the police seem to be going around on the streets in their cars with an announcement going out which is telling people to go to their nearest air raid shelters as quickly as they can.

The military has been telling people that the air defence systems that Israel has – that’s the Iron Dome, David’s Sling and Arrow 2 and 3 – are very capable systems designed to deal with multiple types of threats.

Iran ‘trying to regain deterrence’: Analyst

Qatar University’s Hassan Barari has told Al Jazeera that Iran’s attack on Israel “is an escalation” but is also “calculated” and “measured”.

Barari said Iran’s mission to the UN’s statement that the attack “concludes” the matter of Israel’s attack on Iran’s Damascus Embassy shows Iran “doesn’t want any further retaliation”.

“What the Iranians are trying to do is to come up with a measured, calculated attack in order to regain deterrence and not to be seen as weak in front of their own proxies,” Barari said.

On how Iran’s attack may affect Israel’s war on Gaza, Barari said that “it all depends on how the Israelis read the situation”.

“I know some right-wing politicians in the government will see this as an opportunity because the world’s attention has shifted onto Iran-Israel and then they can do something probably horrendous in Gaza.”

from thefreeonline on April 13, 2024 by Free Derry

← Solidarity with Former Political Prisoner

We have received news that yesterday, Friday 12th April, Christina Cherankova has been released.

As many of you will already know, after have spent more than two years in captivity, Cristina, an anti-fascist from Mozyr, in Belarus was detained on March 22, 2022 for anti-military and anti-police posts on Instagram.

Back in March 22, 2022, a dozen anti-fascists, members of various countercultural musical groups, were searched and detained in Mozyr. Five people ended up serving 24 hours, however criminal cases were filed against Cristina and her friend Anna Pyshnik.

Although her posts did not contain calls for violence, they contained a negative assessment of police officers”, which dated back as far as November 16, 2022. For that reason but also as a warning to other activists, Christina was sentenced to two and a half years in prison.

We extend our solidarity and welcome her home into the arms of her family and comrades.
