Aid to Syria? No Way!-Israel ignores Earthquake and Bombs Damascus! Turkey bombs Rojava! – Civilians killed

from thefreeonline on 21st February 2023 by MedyaNews and World News

Both Israel and Turkey couldn’t wait to again start bombing civilians in Syria. Aid is little and late due to US sanctions and border blockades.

Multiple casualties were reported in a “residential neighborhood” of the Syrian capital. Syria is currently seeking to recover from the February 6 earthquake, which did not affect Damascus but which killed more than 44,000 people across the country’s north and southern Turkey.

At least one missile hit the Kafar Souseh neighborhood of Damascus overnight, severely damaging a residential building and causing multiple deaths and injuries, state news agency SANA reported early on Sunday, blaming the Israeli military.

Syria accuses Israel of deadly strike on central Damascus

A volley of missiles fired from the occupied Golan Heights targeted Damascus and its surroundings around midnight, and even though Syrian air defenses were activated, at least one of the “hostile” projectiles directly hit a multi-story residential building, the agency said.

More than a dozen killed in Israel’s ‘deadliest attack’ on Syria

At least five people, including one soldier, were killed and another 15 civilians injured in the attack, a Syrian military source told SANA, adding that the “Israeli aggression” led to the “destruction of a number of civilian homes” and other “material damage.”

The Israel Defense Forces have not acknowledged the strike, in line with their long-standing policy of not discussing operations outside the country.

Turkey attacks Rojava despite natural disaster at home:

Kurdish officials say a Turkish drone targeted the Kurdish city of Kobane in northeast Syria , posting the photogra ph of a person who killed in the attack. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said a Turkish drone hit a military vehicle which it said belonged to the SDF in Kobane.   The UK-based war monitor also reported casualties from the SDF ranks.

Afrin Canton, near the epicenter, has received little or no help or attention despite being one of Turkish Erdogan’s occupations with ethnic cleansing, and much worse than Russia’s Ukraine invasion.

However, citing a pre-emptive right to self-defense against Iran, Israel has carried out “hundreds” of bombing and missile strikes against Syria since 2011.

Syria has repeatedly protested the raids as a violation of its sovereignty, to no avail.

Sunday’s missile bombardment is the first major attack since a series of devastating earthquakes killed thousands of people in northern Syria less than two weeks ago.

Neighboring Türkiye, which suffered catastrophic death and destruction, has received more attention and international aid, with rescuers from around the globe flying in to help.

Israeli airstrikes kill five in Damascus:

In Syria’s case, only a few select nations have come to its aid, with the government in Damascus blaming Western sanctions and a years-long US-led economic blockade and occupation for exacerbating the crisis and hampering relief efforts.

Western sanctions will mean that more Syrians die after the earthquakes

Following the devastating earthquakes that rocked Türkiye, Syria and their neighboring countries on February 6, leaving more than 20,000 dead, Damascus is struggling to deal with this unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe as it remains under brutal Western sanctions that have brought the country to its knees.

The West’s war on Syria that began in early 2011 failed to topple its elected president, but the subsequent years of increasingly cruel sanctions – all in the name of ‘helping the Syrian people’ – have succeeded in rendering life miserable and near impossible, with most unable to afford to properly feed their families, much less heat their homes.

Organizing under a military dictatorship. An interview with Sudanese Anarchist Gathering

We are a group of a Sudanese youth which believes in the libertarian socialist anarchist idea.

Call for Solidarity with General Strike after Massacre of Sudan Uprising

As the internationalist section of the anarchist organization Perspektive Selbstverwaltung (Perspective Selfmanagement/Selfgovernance), this summer we spoke with various revolutionary groups in Sudan about their work and the political processes on the ground.

The following interview with the group „Sudanese Anarchist Gathering“ was done by e-mail. Due to the language barrier(s), a difference in political socialization and terminology, some difficulties arose in our communication.

This has greatly delayed the publication of the interview which was held August 2022. Questions as well as answers have been translated and edited for better readability. However, we are now happy to share the interview and understand the previously mentioned hurdles as a logical part of internationalist work.

Tell us about Sudanese Anarchist Gathering (inso far this is possible without risking repression for you and others). What are your goals and what strategies do you use to achieve them? How are you organized? Do you have local groups in different cities or are you working together with other anarchist groups?

We are a group of a Sudanese youth which believes in the libertarian socialist anarchist idea. We formed our revolutionary group in the wave of the December revolution (2018), where we met during demonstrations and in universities.

First image: Anarchists on a march, flying white anarchists flags with a red circle A. Second image: two anarchists in Sudan holding a red and black flag with a white circle A.

We came together in order to spread anarchist ideas and achieve anarchist progress on the ground throughout Sudan. This is done despite the danger the government authorities pose, as they will operate against any instigators or propagators of the anarchist idea.

But despite this risk, we were determined to establish a group that would struggle against the government and its corrupt institutions, even if we face the risk of imprisonment for life or being killed by the fascist state. After the foundation of our group, we contacted individual anarchists in all states of Sudan and also communicated with a group of anarchists in northern Sudan.

March for Peace: 10k Protest against Arming Ukraine and Munich ‘Security’ Conference

from thefreeonline on 2/20/2023 by russiart

A rally against the 59th Munich Security Conference was held in the capital of Bavaria. The participants in the mass action also expressed their dissatisfaction with NATO policy and opposed the supply of weapons to Ukraine.

According to recent opinion polls, more than half of the inhabitants of Germany do not support the transfer of tanks and combat aircraft to Kyiv, although these issues have become one of the central topics on the agenda of the current Munich conference.

On Saturday, February 18, several thousand protesters gathered in the capital of Bavaria for a rally against the Munich Security Conference taking place in the city these days.

According to preliminary police data, about 10,000 people took to the streets.

The demonstrators gathered in the city center, from where they moved to the square in front of the Munich Glyptothek (a museum of ancient Greek and Roman sculpture).

‘Ireland For All’: Tens of Thousands March in Dublin to Support Refugees

from thefreeonline on 19th Feb 2023 by Julia Conley at Common Dreams.

“There are enough resources in this country for everyone to have a decent home, job, and services and welcome refugees,”

Demanding an “Ireland for All,” tens of thousands of Irish people on Saturday marched through Dublin to make clear their opposition to recent violent attacks on migrants and rallies claiming the country “is full” and can’t accept refugees.

Carrying signs reading, “Protect Lives, Not Borders” and “Everyone Is Welcome,” the demonstrators on Saturday called on the federal and city government to ensure there is enough housing for everyone and to address the cost-of-living crisis—which advocates said the far-right is exploiting to drum up anti-immigration sentiment.

A rise in racism across Ireland “has been deliberately been stoked up by organizers of the far-right,” Bríd Smith of the ecosocialist group People Before Profit told The Independent. “We had [cost-of-living] crises long before refugees came, long before the Ukrainian war.”
