Originally from Germany, the anarchist thinker Rudolf Rocker spent much of his life in exile in some of the world’s major cities – Paris, London, New York – where he always gravitated towards immigrants involved in radical politics, most notably the Jewish anarchist community in London at the turn of the 20th century.
Often referred to as a rabbi by members of this community as a sign of appreciation, the epithet of an ‘anarchist rabbi’ is the title of a book about Rocker’s life and thought, as well as a documentary about his time in London.
Though this story is rarely told today, Rocker’s time in London is worth revisiting, at the very least to recover him as an important political and intellectual figure.
Quite the theoretician-and-practitioner anarchist, Rocker left a large bibliography behind, including three volumes of memoirs, only a small part of which have been published in English.
Published in the 1950s as The London Years, his memoirs give a rich account of how a German Catholic became a leading figure in London’s Yiddish-speaking Jewish anarchist movement.

Not surprisingly, many of his company’s pilots are far smarter than Kelly seems to realize…
If Christopher Columbus were alive today, he would be tried for his monstrous crimes against humanity.
Columbus’s Reign of Terror is one of the darkest chapters in human history. Amazingly, Columbus oversaw the sale of native girls for sexual slavery. Girls from 9 to 10 years old were the most desired by their men. In 1500, Columbus wrote about it in his diary.
He said: “.. there are many traffickers looking for girls; nine to ten year olds are now in demand. “
Columbus forced these peaceful natives to work in his gold mines until they died of exhaustion. If an “Indian” worker did not deliver his entire quota of gold dust before the deadline given by Columbus, the soldiers cut off his hands and tied them around his neck to send a message.
Slavery was so intolerable to these sweet and gentle people that at one point a hundred of them committed suicide en masse. Catholic law prohibited the slavery of Christians, but Columbus solved this problem. He simply refused to baptize the natives of Hispaniola.
On his second trip to the New World, Columbus brought cannons and attack dogs. If a native resisted slavery, he would cut off a nose or an ear. If the slaves tried to escape, Columbus burned them alive. Other times, he would send attack dogs to hunt them down, and the dogs ripped off the arms and legs of the natives who screamed to death.
If the Spanish ran out of meat to feed the dogs, the Arawak babies were killed to feed them.
Columbus’s acts of cruelty were so unspeakable and so legendary – even in his day – that Governor Francisco De Bobadilla arrested Columbus and his two brothers, bound them in chains, and sent them to Spain to answer for their crimes against the Arawaks.
But the king and queen of Spain, with their treasury full of gold, forgave Columbus and released him.
One of Columbus’s men, Bartolomé De Las Casas, was so mortified by Columbus’s brutal atrocities against the natives that he stopped working for him and became a Catholic priest. He described how the Spaniards under Columbus cut the legs of children fleeing from them to test the sharpness of their blades.
According to De Las Casas, men made bets on who, with a single stroke of his sword, could cut a person in half. He says that Columbus’s men poured boiling soap on rebellious natives.
In a single day, De Las Casas was an eyewitness when Spanish soldiers dismembered, beheaded and / or raped 3,000 natives. “Such inhumanities and barbarities were committed in my sight and were without parallel at any time,” wrote De Las Casas. “My eyes have seen these acts so strange to human nature that now I tremble as I write.”
De Las Casas spent the rest of his life trying to protect the defenseless natives. But after a while, there were no natives left to protect. Experts generally agree that prior to 1492, the population of the island of Hispaniola probably exceeded 3 million.
Within 20 years of the arrival of the Spanish, it was reduced to only 60,000.
In 50 years, not a single original native inhabitant could be found.
In 1516, the Spanish historian Pedro Mártir wrote: “A ship without a compass, chart or guide, but only by tracking the dead Indians who had been thrown from the ships could find their way from the Bahamas to Hispaniola.”
Christopher Columbus earned most of his income from slavery, De Las Casas observed. In fact, Columbus was the first slave trader in the Americas. When the native slaves became extinct, they were replaced by black slaves.
Columbus’s son became the first African slave trader in 1505.

Si Cristóbal Colón estuviera vivo hoy, sería juzgado por sus mostruosos crímenes contra la humanidad. El Reino de terror de Colón es uno de los capítulos más oscuros de la historia de la humanidad.
Sorprendentemente, Colón supervisó la venta de niñas nativas para la esclavitud sexual. Las niñas de 9 a 10 años eran las más deseadas por sus hombres. En 1500, Colón escribió sobre ello en su diario. . En su segundo viaje al Nuevo Mundo, Colón trajo cañones y perros de ataque. .Si un nativo se resistiera a la esclavitud, le cortaría una nariz o una oreja. Si los esclavos trataban de escapar, Colón los quemaba vivos. Otras veces, enviaba perros de ataque para cazarlos, y los perros arrancaban los brazos y las piernas de los nativos que gritaban hasta morir. Si los españoles se quedaban sin carne para alimentar a los perros, los bebés arahuacos eran matados para darles de comer.

La noticia ha provocado la ira popular en Chile. En Santiago, capital, un gran número de manifestantes ha salido a las calles este lunes para protestar contra el crimen cometido por los carabineros el domingo en una gran manifestación por los derechos mapuche.
La tarde de este domingo se confirmó el fallecimiento de la joven que fue herida por carabineros durante la «Marcha por la resistencia mapuche y la autonomía de los pueblos», realizada en el sector de Plaza Italia, en el centro de Santiago.
La mujer asesinada es Denisse Cortéz, quien tras recibir atención primaria en la calle, fue trasladada hasta la exPosta Central. Desafortunadamente, pasadas las 18:00 horas se confirmó su muerte.
Cortés Saavedra, una estudiante de Derecho de la Universidad Academia de Humanismo Cristiano, quien participaba el domingo en la marcha para exigir la reivindicación de los derechos de los mapuche en Santiago, capital chilena, perdió la vida, según anunció su alma mater en Twitter.
La marcha, previa al Día Nacional de los Pueblos Originarios, el 12 de octubre, reclamaba entre otros, la liberación de varios miembros del pueblo mapuche y los derechos a las tierras ancestrales, que según ellos, se extiende desde el litoral del Pacífico de Chile a través de los Andes y hasta la costa atlántica de Argentina.
Lo de siempre: Carabineros reprimen con mano dura marcha mapuche
De acuerdo a la versión policial, la victima habría muerto, tras ser alcanzada por “artefactos pirotécnicos” supuestamente lanzados por los propios manifestantes, que tenían como objetivo agentes de la Policía antidisturbios.
No obstante, la madre de la víctima mortal duda de esta versión, pues denuncia que su hija tenía una herida en el cuello. Además, una grabación publicada en redes sociales muestra el momento del incidente.
En el vídeo se ve que un policía dispara a boca de jarro su escopeta de balas de goma directamente al cuerpo de la activista, a pesar de que esta estaba hablando con otros carabineros para que no repriman tan salvajemente. El texto del vídeo reproduce la versión policial, pero las imágenes no dejan lugar a dudas.
“No nos pueden pisotear. No nos pueden avasallar, bajo ningún punto de vista. Ni al pueblo mapuche allá sufriendo en el sur, ni a nosotros aquí en Santiago, ni a la gente del norte”, agregó la madre de Cortés, entre sollozos.

Informamos al pueblo mapuche y al pueblo chileno consciente que el día de hoy 10 de octubre nos reunimos como Organizaciones warriache y territoriales de Santiago en la ya tradicional marcha por la resistencia Mapuche, en la cual denunciamos el accionar criminal del Estado chileno hacia nuestro pueblo.Llevamos 30 años marchando y las demandas siguen siendo las mismas pese a que nos han querido comprar y cesgar con sus migajas.
Hoy mientras realizabamos nuestra ceremonia de llellipun, sin aún interrumpir el tránsito carabineros de Chile arremetió violentamente con piquetes y carros blindados, sin mediar diálogo ni provocación.
Denunciamos también que la institución racista de Carabineros de Chile se negó al diálogo pese a que varios voceros y organizadores de la marcha hicieron intentos infructiferos debido a la prepotencia con la que actúa el brazo Armado del gobierno de turno, mostrando una vez más en su actuar que en Chile existe un trato desigual, imaginamos que si hubiésemos venido con camiones el la recepción sería distinta.
Las agresiones desmedidas que tuvimos que soportar nos obligaron a la legítima autodefensa, la cual nos permitió avanzar por la alameda hasta Portugal, siendo detenidos por el fuerzas especiales quienes no dudaron en sacar a todo su contingente blindado para intentar avasallar con nosotros, pero les respondimos como pueblo digno.
Sin embargo, debemos lamentar una muerte y heridos de consideración a quienes expresamos toda nuestra solidaridad y apoyo, responsabilizamos al estado y a su brazo Armado por el accionar criminal de la institución carabineros de Chile que actúa con total impunidad sin cumplir sus propios protocolos.
Agradecemos a todos y todas quienes asistieron y resistieron dignamente, defendiendo nuestro derecho a manifestarnos pese a la barbaridad del estado criminal de Sebastián Piñera.

(ZH) — Merck’s new ‘not Ivermectin’ Covid-19 treatment, molnupiravir, costs $17.74 to produce – yet the company is charging the US government $712 for the treatment– a 40x markup, according to The Intercept, citing a report issued last week by the Harvard School of Public Health and King’s College Hospital in London.
The pill, originally developed using US government funds as a possible treatment for Venezuelan equine encephalitis, “cut the risk of hospitalization and death” in half in a randomized trial of 775 adults with mild/moderate Covid who were considered at high risk for disease due to comorbidities such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease.
The trial was stopped early so the company could apply for and emergency use authorization (EUA). The drug did not benefit patients who were already hospitalized with severe disease.
News of the oral ‘wonder drug’ sent shares of Merck higher last week, as the company says it can deliver 10MM doses by the end of the year.
Clearly, the pill could bring in massive profits to Merck and its partner on the drug, Ridgeback Biotherapeutics – which licensed the drug from Emory University in 2020 and then sold the worldwide rights to the drug to Merck for a sum which has not been disclosed.
Meanwhile, the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, a division of the Department of Defense, funded development of the drug by Emory University to the tune of $10 million between 2013 and 2015, according to nonprofit group Knowledge Ecology International discovered.
