Benefits of Green NH3  (ammonia) over other fuels

  • costs less and zero emissions
  • helps reverse global warming
  • no need to transport fuel (used where it is made)
  • less truck pollution, traffic congestion and fuel tanker accidents.
  • production,transport and storage faacilities exist already, for NH3 fertilizer, and only need extending
  • less need for oil wars ( oil is now not worth the fight )
  • less chance of “oil” terrorism ( harder to attack a million wide spread green fuel machines than one or two oil refineries.)   ETC

NH3 as a fuel

There are three ways to use ammonia as a fuel.

  • Ammonia can be burned in a spark ignited piston engine, behaving quite a bit like an ordinary gasoline engine, except it will perform at compressions of as high as 25 to 1, which is even better than diesel’s 17 to 1 limit.
  • Ammonia will burn in a turbine, which would be used for long term electricity generation, say in a “peaker” style generation facility intended to replace a natural gas generator. This would be a machine in the multimegawatt range.
  • The third method of producing electricity from ammonia is to use it in a fuel cell. This has always been possible but development has favored hydrogen fuel cells rather than direct ammonia fuel cells thus far.

How does an ammonia dual fueled vehicle work?

The simplest implementation of the dual fueled ammonia vehicle conversion is physically similar to a compressed natural gas vehicle conversion. A new on-board tank holds liquid ammonia at only about 150 PSI. Regulators, valves and an electronic control system meter the flow of ammonia to the engine as needed after the engine is started and warmed up on gasoline, ethanol etc. A small amount of gasoline is used to idle the engine, then as the load is increased the additional energy is provided by adding ammonia. This is all handled automatically by the engine control electronic module.

Can I buy a conversion kit for my private car today?

No. Not at this time. Conversion work is currently concentrated with fleet vehicles and other large market applications. Although, with increasing gasoline prices, conversions for private vehicles are coming.

Hay tres maneras de utilizar amoniaco como combustible.

La implementación más sencilla de la conversión de un vehículo a amoníaco es físicamente similar a una conversión a gas natural comprimido. Un nuevo  depósito tiene amoníaco líquido a sólo unos 150 PSI. Reguladores, válvulas y un sistema de control electrónico controla el flujo de amoníaco para el motor, según sea necesario. El motor se pone en marcha y se calentará con un poco de gasolina u etanol, etc.  A  continuación, como la carga se incrementa, la energía adicional se proporciona mediante la adición de amoníaco, manejado automáticamente por el módulo de control electrónico del motor.

Setting Sail for Gaza, Armed with Love Letters and a Missive from Dr. King

“I refuse to accept the idea that man is mere flotsam and jetsam in the river of life, unable to influence the unfolding events which surround him,” said Dr. Martin Luther King as he accepted the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. These words will guide me and other passengers aboard the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, a fleet of nine boats scheduled to set sail for Gaza on June 25 from various Mediterranean ports. While the Israelis try to label us provocateurs, terrorists and Hamas supporters, we are simply nonviolent advocates following the teachings of Dr. King. We refuse to sit at the docks of history and watch the people of Gaza suffer.

The U.S. boat, which will carry 50 Americans, is called The Audacity of Hope. It is named after Obama’s bestselling political autobiography in which he lauds our collective audacity of striving to become a better nation. But I prefer to think of our boat as part of Dr. King’s legacy. He, too, talked about audacity, about his audacious faith in the future. “I refuse to accept the idea that the ‘isness’ of man’s present nature makes him morally incapable of reaching up for the eternal ‘oughtness’ that forever confronts him,” Dr. King said.

Our intrepid group has its moral compass aimed at the way things ought to be. Our cargo is not humanitarian aid, as some of the other ships are carrying, but thousands of letters from the U.S. people, letters of compassion, solidarity and hope written to people living in the Gaza Strip. We travel with what Dr. King called “unarmed truth and unconditional love.”

We focus on Gaza because since 2007 the Israeli government has enforced a crippling blockade on its 1.5 million residents. Inflicting collective punishment on civilians is morally wrong and is a gross violation of international humanitarian law under Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Convention. Yet the world’s democracies do nothing to stop Israel’s extraordinarily cruel behavior, and, in fact, did nothing for 22 days in 2009 while the Israel military unleashed a tidal wave of carnage that left 1,400 Palestinians dead. They continue to sit by while the people of Gaza remain isolated and unable to secure access to building materials and basic living supplies, and while Israeli soldiers shoot at Gaza’s farmers trying to till their land along the border and attack fisherman trying to make a living in waters off their shore. And in the case of the United States, our government is not simply sitting by, but supporting the Israeli military with $3 billion in military aid a year.

Agenda 21: Sustainabilty or buckets of Greenwash??

Here in Spain local right wing council’s are competing to declare support for Agenda 21, Sustainability, Environmental awareness, etc. All good citizens are urged to take part, and the response is good.   Because everyone knows by now that  we’re destroying the life supporting mechanisms of the planet.

Okay it’s super necessary that we all take part, but without touching the rampant consumption that is the base of capitalism, we are all pissing against a gale force wind.

Suddenly AGENDA 21 is all the fashion, nobody mentions that it was first agreed in 1992 at the Rio Summit, and has taken almost 20 years to get off the drawing board. Meanwhile every field of environment, climate and biodiversity crises have been taking giant steps backwards.

It seems like Agenda 21 may  be used by corrupt business and politicos as one more LOAD OF GREENWASH and even an excuse to CUT SERVICES in the name of sustainability. No reason not to support the idea, I support it, while exposing the hypocritical cant of those profiting from destroying our planet.

” The world’s leading ozone destroyer takes credit for leadership in ozone protection. A mammoth greenhouse gas emitter professes the precautionary approach to global warming. A major agrichemical manufacturer trades in a pesticide so hazardous it has been banned in many countries, while implying it is helping feed the hungry. A petrochemical firm uses the waste from one polluting process as raw material for another hazardous process, and boasts of an important recycling initiative. Another giant multinational cuts timber from virgin rainforest, replaces it with monoculture plantations and calls the project “sustainable forest development.”

RIFT VALLEY, Jun 17, 2011 (IPS) – It is late afternoon and the lone figure of nine-year-old Nancy Chepkemboi trudges home. She is soaked to the bone and this now happens on a regular basis because of the unusually frequent and high rains, placing her at risk of contracting pneumonia. And possibly even malaria. Puddles of standing water are a common feature in these regions, and are responsible for the highest malaria infection rates.

According to the ministry of health, malaria is the number one killer of children under the age of five. Almost 34,000 Kenyan children die from malaria annually. And they are at higher risk for contracting malaria during the rainy seasons.

Climatically Kenya is experiencing two extremes. Due to climate change, there has been no rain in most parts of the country. The drought in the northeastern region has been labeled a national disaster. But in the Rift Valley and in Western Kenya the rains have been heavier than expected.
