via Indymedia Barcelona with thanks. Eugeni Guernès, a Catalan anarchist, driver by profession and a CNT union member, was mayor and councillor in the Llagostera town in Girona, Catalonia. between 24 November 1936 and 10 May 1938.
When the war and the Republic were lost and the fascist coup d’etat finally triumphed he had to march to exile like so many militants. On his return he was denounced, arrested, imprisoned and subsequently sentenced to death and executed on 7 May 1943 in Girona old cemetery, where with eight more people from Llagostera he was executed by firing squad .

The war of resistance had ended in March 1939, but in the cemetery of Girona, more than five hundred people were shot dead between 1939 and 1945 and the dictatorship continued for nearly 40 years, with support from western powers. All of the massacred were buried in mass graves.
Nearly all of the victims belonged to the anarchist CNT trade union or the political party Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (Republican Left Party).
In 2009 a metal plaque was erected in Girona cemetery with the names engraved of all those executed by the Spanish catholic nazis.
The granddaughter of Eugeni, with the support of the present Town Council and different local groups in LLagostera town, has approved a joint motion giving unconditional support to the Court Cases for crimes of genocide and crimes against humanity by the Spanish fascist regime.
That investigation and prosecution is being held in Argentina, headed by Judge Maria Servini de Cubria, as the Spanish State, ruled by the same fascist families and businesses, still blocks any justice or reparation.

Eugeni Gurnès i Bou, anarquista català, xófer de professió membre del sindicat llibertari CNT, havia estat alcalde i després regidor a l´Ajuntament de Llagostera a Girona.Va ser entre el 24 de novembre de 1936 i el 10 de maig de 1938.
Va tindre que marxar a l exili com tants i tants militants.A la seva tornada va ser denunciat, detingut,fet pres ,comdemnat a mort i posteriorment afusellat el 7 de maig de 1943 al cementeri vell de Girona,on van ser afussellats vuit llagosterencs més.
La Guerra civil havia acabat el mes de marc de 1939, peró al cementeri de Girona,s´afusellaren més de cinc-centes persones entre els anys 1939 i 1945.Tots els executats foren enterrats en fosses comunes.
Gairebé tots pertanyien al sindicat llibertari CNT o al partit polític Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya.
Al cementeri de Girona,l ´any 2009,s´instal.laren unes mampares de ferro on figuren gravats tots els noms i cognoms dels executats.
La néta de l´Eugeni amb el suport de l´Ajuntament de Llagostera aprova una moció conjunta dels diferents grups municipals en suport incondicional a l´anomenada Querella Argentina per delictes de genocidi i lesa humanitat,encapçalada per la magistrada Maria Servini de Cubria.
