latest news: The Spanish State has taken direct control of the local ‘Mossos’ Catalan Police to help stop the Referendum on Independence. The police unions have not yet responded but rumour has it that many will ‘take the day off’.

Dockworkers boycott Spanish police ships sent against Catalan referendum

By Alejandro López in Spain Dockworkers in Catalonia’s two main ports, Barcelona and Tarragona, are refusing supply services to vessels carrying riot police and paramilitary Civil Guard units sent by Spain’s Ministry of Interior to crush the secessionist referendum.

This comes amid a rapidly escalating political crisis in Spain caused by the central government repression of the independence referendum called by Catalan separatist forces for October 1.

Just over a week before the scheduled referendum, Spain’s Interior Ministry has activated one of the largest security operations since the end of the fascist regime of General Francisco Franco in 1978. It is employing three tourist cruise ships to house more than 4,000 police sent to Catalonia. Two of the boats are anchored in Barcelona and the third in Tarragona. Catalonia Revolution: Hundreds of Thousands block and defy Military police Repression

Yesterday 20th Sept 2017 was a key day in Catalonia as thousands of military police invaded Barcelona city and began searching government offices of the local government, which is having its finances seized, and arresting public officials.

The response was unbelievable, on an ordinary weekday gigantic crowds appeared in Barcelona, Catalonia and around Spain. The police were blockaded and frustrated and withdrew when they finally could.

The day was a victory despite everything in that it showed it will be impossible to stop the Referendum without tens of thousands more imported police who are needed elsewhere. the only other option would be to call in the army.

CNT warns of riot cops shipped into Barcelona docks

In the febrile atmosphere of Catalonia’s attempted independence referendum and repression from Madrid, activists with the anarchist CNT union report that national police have been shipped in from all over Spain and are holed up at Barcelona’s port, seemingly in preparation to crush any significant upheavals.

Dock workers with Portuaris CNT have been tracking police movements in the Prince of Spain and Lepanto docks where three large ferries have been spotted which appear to be acting as hubs for officers loyal to the national PP (conservative) government.

Spanish President Mariano Rajoy has taken a heavily repressive line with the regional Catalan govenment over plans to mount a what Rajoy calls an illegal independence referendum on October 1st. Yesterday regional administrative offices across Catalonia were raided and 14 people detained, sparking a tense protest and standoff in Barcelona.

Madrid appears to be concerned about the loyalty of police on the ground, who are administered by the Barcelona government and have reportedly been reluctant to crack down hard on increasingly rowdy protests in the regional capital. A centrally-organised presence of national guard operating out of the docks would appear to be the PP’s standby measure to quickly enforce control if events escalate. BELEAGUERED budget airline RyanAir have made thousands of apologies available to customers following the company’s mishandling of flight cancellations, for the low, low price of just €4.99 each.

The airline was forced to cancel up to fifty flights a day between now and October, following a holiday allowance backlog that left them with a critical shortage of pilots, cabin staff, and trumpet players.

Grovelling apologies to the 400,000 affected passengers who had their holiday plans cancelled with short notice have now been added to the Ryanair website, and boss Michael O’Leary has kindly allowed people to pay with cash, cheque or credit card.

“There is a processing fee for apologies purchased using credit card or cheque,” said a spokesperson for Ryanair, ignoring a chorus of ringing phones at their customer service department.

“And of course, if you want your apology sent out to you, then there’s a slight fee for that too. But apart from that, every customer that was left in uncertainty about whether or not their holiday was going ahead will be fully satisfied with their apology. Just take a number in our queuing system and have your payment method ready, and we should get to you within the day, if not the week”.

Ryanair went on to announce that all affected passengers would be entitled to compensation, which would be available in the form of scratch cards.

Flood of Escalating Repression boosts Catalan Referendum Resistance

The fight between the majority of Catalans and the Spanish State is escalating by the hour. Support for holding an Independence Referendum on 1st Oct is growing in reaction to a flood of repression.

The far-right PP government, direct successor to the fascist Franco regime has ordered thousands of militarized Guardia Civil into Catalonia where they are trying to try prevent the Referendum.
