A conflict that left the tragic balance of more than 300,000 dead and an undetermined number of disappeared, and therefore thousands of displaced people who had to seek refuge in other latitudes. The thirst and hatred for revenge was such that it was even thought to divide Yucatán into two entities; a country of supposed whites or Mexican mestizos and another occupied by rebellious Yucatecan indigenous women.
The racist Creoles requested the intervention of Commodore Percy and the American mercenaries to pacify the peninsula in exchange for establishing a slave state in the Caribbean.
The mayor of Isla Mujeres is Juan Carrillo Soberanis of the PRI, which is the heir party of Salinas de Gortari, Zedillo and company that fought to the death those who were described at that time as “terrorists” of the EZLN. And that was what the EZLN delegation found: the total indifference of the island’s inhabitants and also of the tourists who are only interested in taking ecstasy on crazy nights of sex, drugs and rock and roll.
Some gringos smeared with sunscreen, dressed in shorts and bikinis and drinking cans of beer pass by without quite understanding what is happening on the pier: strange beings disguised in colorful hooded suits embark on a sailboat.
For them it is simply a folkloric act typical of the carnival spirit of the natives. Only a handful of stalwarts and activists came to bid farewell to the Zapatista expedition, including indigenous Otomi women and some other activists from CDMX. But most of the attendees were journalists, cameramen or photographers sent by the national and international media.

Si hace 500 años de los conquistadores españoles al mando de Francisco Hernández de Córdoba desembarcaron en Isla Mujeres ahora les toca el turno a los zapatistas de desquitarse.

Este es uno de los episodios más estrafalarios y surrealista que se hayan visto en mucho tiempo. Los zapatistas zarparon desde Isla Mujeres, en el Caribe mexicano, para iniciar su viaje interoceánico con destino al continente europeo.
La Isla Mujeres de tan solo 4.22 kilómetros cuadrados y 13.000 habitantes, la mayoría de origen maya, se ha transformado en una colonia o encomienda turística que acoge anualmente a más de 600.000 visitantes tanto extranjeros como nacionales. Lo que ha provocado un devastador impacto medioambiental. Los Mayas desde tiempos inmemoriales en cierta época del año peregrinaban hasta esta isla para adorar a la diosa lunar Ixchel. Pero hoy a quien se le rinde culto es al dólar, el dios único y verdadero
La mayoría de los habitantes son de origen maya descendientes de los que huyeron desde la península de Yucatán cuando estalló la Guerra de las Castas en 1848. Una Guerra que se extendió por más de 50 años y que enfrentó a los indígenas mayas esclavizados en las explotaciones de henequén y el palo de campeche contra los criollos y blancos realistas.
Un conflicto que dejó el trágico saldo de más de 300.000 muertos y un número indeterminado de desaparecidos, y por ende miles de desplazados que tuvieron que buscar refugio en otras latitudes. Era tal la sed de odio y de venganza que hasta se pensó dividir Yucatán en dos entidades; un país de supuestos blancos o mestizos mexicanos y otro ocupado por las indígenas yucatecas rebeldes. Los criollos racistas solicitaron la intervención del comodoro Percy y los mercenarios norteamericanos para pacificar la península a cambio de establecer un estado esclavista en el Caribe.
Encima el alcalde de Isla Mujeres es Juan Carrillo Soberanis del PRI, que es el partido heredero de Salinas de Gortari, Zedillo y compañía que combatió a muerte a los que calificaron en ese entonces como “terroristas” del EZLN. Así que ninguna autoridad estatal o nacional se acercó a despedirlos ya que los consideran un grupo “antisistema y separatista enemigo de México”.
Los nativos han perdido completamente su identidad, su lengua o su cultura y ahora no son más que dóciles trabajadores y empleados de las cadenas hoteleras y tour operadores. A la fuerza han tenido que aprender el inglés que es la lengua “oficial” y adaptarse a sus usos y costumbres. En resumen, son extranjeros en su propia tierra.
Y no solo eso sino que alienados y alcoholizados han caído en el pozo sin fondo del consumismo (hay 10 centros de alcohólicos anónimos en la isla) y el analfabetismo extremo Es triste reconocerlo, pero ante unas evidencias tan contundentes no habría que hacerse a la mar, lo mejor sería permanecer atracados en este puerto porque la lucha de liberación empieza aquí donde están sus hermanos Mayas oprimidos y empobrecidos.
Y eso fue los que encontró la delegación del EZLN: la total indiferencia de los habitantes de la isla y también de los turistas que lo único que les interesa es alcanzar el éxtasis en las noches locas de sexo, droga y rock and roll. Algunos gringos embadurnados de crema solar, vestidos con bermudas y bikinis y bebiendo latas de cerveza pasan de largo sin entender muy bien qué es lo que sucede en el muelle: unos extraños seres disfrazados con trajes coloridos y encapuchados se embarcan en un velero.
Para ellos sencillamente es un acto folclórico propio del espíritu carnavalesco de los nativos. Tan solo un puñado de incondicionales y activistas vinieron a despedir la expedición zapatista entre las que se destacaban mujeres indígenas Otomíes y alguno que otros activistas procedentes de CDMX.
Aunque la mayor parte de los asistentes eran periodistas, camarógrafos o fotógrafos enviados por los medios de comunicación tanto nacionales como internacionales. Entre aplausos y pañuelos blancos al viento leva anclas “la Montaña” que poéticamente el sup Galeano la ha descrito así: “Vestida de árboles, aves y piedras camina La Montaña…” para adentrarse en el mar Caribe, el mar de los piratas controlado hoy por la IV flota norteamericana.
El velero de bandera alemana con más de 100 años de antigüedad de nombre Stahlratte y rebautizado “la Montaña” cuenta con los más modernos equipos de navegación y está al mando del capitán Ludwing Hoffmann al que acompañan 5 marineros de Alemania y Colombia. La nave llevaba a
marrada en el muelle varios meses esperando clientes que los contraten para sus viajes de placer. En su día prestó servicios a Greenpeace y a otras organizaciones no gubernamentales. Pero si consultamos las páginas de Internet el Stahlratte se ha especializado en transportar las motos de los aventureros que pagan altas sumas de dinero por cruzar el Tapón del Darién para continuar su periplo por el continente suramericano o viceversa. Los benefactores zapatistas, las oenegés, las asociaciones altermundialistas son los que han patrocinado esta sinigual singladura.
Según expuso el subcomandante Moisés -a quien el subcomandante Marcos le cedió el mando en el 2014- la expedición “Travesía por la Vida” está compuesta por el escuadrón 421 (4 indígenas comandantas de las etnias Tzotzil, Tzeltal Tojolabales y Choles, 1 hombre Tojolabal y otro Chol y “ elloa” Marijosé, Tojolabal, de sexo indeterminado y cuya misión es denunciar a los “carapálidas heteropatriarcales que persiguen lo diferente” (todos descendientes de los pueblos originarios Mayas) Este escuadrón se ha entrenado durante seis meses en el “Centro de Adiestramiento Marítimo-Terrestre Zapatista” (ubicado en el semillero comandanta Ramona)
La dirigencia zapatista se declara en desacuerdo con la carta que le envió López Obrador al rey de España para que pida perdón a las comunidades indígenas por los abusos cometidos durante la conquista y la colonización. “Es pura demagogia” El EZLN prefiere aferrase al presente y no al pasado porque no han sido vencidos y continúan en resistencia.
Por eso no se van a humillar ante los poderosos y seguirán plantándole cara al colonialismo y al capitalismo imperante. Advierten que su verdadero objetivo es forjar alianzas con las organizaciones altermundialistas europeas. Después de 27 años del alzamiento zapatista es necesario recordarle al mundo que están vivos y que siguen siendo una alternativa viable para combatir la globalización criminal. El EZLN representa un ideal romántico heredero de la lucha agraria de Emiliano Zapata y las guerrillas latinoamericanas de los años sesentas y setentas que no puede quedarse reducido a una pieza arqueológica de museo.
El EZLN desde un principio se ha manifestado como un firme opositor al gobierno del supuesto izquierdista López Obrador al que califican de “traidor” “se puede cambiar el capataz, el mayordomo, el mayoral pero el patrón sigue siendo el mismo” “vamos a pelear y vamos a enfrentarlo” Además, como pueblos en resistencia y rebeldía harán lo imposible por boicotear las políticas neoliberales implementadas la 4T, especialmente a los megaproyectos del Tren Maya, el Transístmico o la refinería de Dos Bocas. Proyectos extractivos que invaden el territorio indígena y que solo beneficiarán a las compañías transnacionales. “Nada ha cambiado. Los nuevos amos se han puesto otra careta para engañarnos”
¿A quién le interesa su mensaje en esta isla de la bohemia y el placer? en medio de tremendo bullicio mezclado con reguetón y corridos apenas se escuchan algunas tímidas consignas de ¡Zapata vive, la lucha sigue! lanzada por un puñado de sus incondicionales. El sonido de las caracolas nos convoca en el muelle para darles la despedida Mientras los turistas a bordo de los catamaranes salen a realizar el consabido tour por los arrecifes de coral esperando sumergirse en las paradisiacas aguas azul turquesa para observar la fauna marina.
Así que los expedicionarios tendrán que esperar 6 semanas más hasta que lleguen a Galicia para poder dirigirse a los activistas, los intelectuales, estudiantes o profesores europeos que les depararán una cordial bienvenida. Entonces, podrán hablar y exponer sus demandas.
El subcomandante Moisés se hizo presente en isla Mujeres para despedirlos y alegó que “el capitalismo es el responsable de la miseria, la explotación, la violencia contra los pueblos originarios, la opresión de las mujeres, culpable del heteropatriarcado y los feminicidios. El capitalismo es un sistema que promueve el militarismo, el racismo, la explotación, el despojo y la destrucción de la naturaleza”
Esta isla es el mejor ejemplo del neoliberalismo triunfante, una isla privatizada, con playas privatizadas, con sus clubes y condominios privados para el disfrute de una casta de capos, millonarios y políticos corruptos, con sus urbanizaciones y hoteles cinco estrellas, el puerto deportivo con sus yates y veleros, las discotecas y casinos, los clubes y prostíbulos, o las mansiones de ensueño propias de la mil y una noches.
Ya han pasado mucho tiempo desde que el día 1 de enero de 1994 los zapatistas se levantaron en armas para protestar contra el TLC. Un golpe de efecto mediático que logró sentar al gobierno mexicano en una mesa de negociación. Pero al final fracasaron los diálogos de paz cuando se incumplieron los acuerdos de San Andrés firmados en 1996 que prometía una reforma constitucional que garantizara su autonomía.
De ahí que unilateralmente en el año 2003 se crearan las Juntas del Buen Gobierno que no admiten la intervención del estado ni la presencia de las fuerzas armadas en sus territorios. El EZLN detonó el movimiento alter mundialista y las protesta contra la globalización al grito de “tierra y libertad”. Están en un proceso de construir un país independiente con servicios de salud, escuelas, bibliotecas, medios de comunicación, teatros, campos deportivos, centros agrícolas, ganaderos que garanticen la soberanía alimentaria. Incluso han creado su propio ejército para garantizar el respeto a sus fronteras. Un proyecto que se sostiene gracias a la solidaridad internacionalista
Para los indígenas la independencia de México no significó más que continuar bajo el mismo yugo explotador de los criollos racistas, Esclavos sin tierra y sin pan esclavizados por un régimen feudal en el que el poder absoluto lo ejercían los terratenientes y gamonales bendecidos por la iglesia católica. En este sistema de castas los Mayas ocupaban el escalafón más rastrero y despreciable.
Según la comandancia del EZLN ya es tiempo de salir del ostracismo y volver a las primeras planas de los medios de comunicación para demostrar la vigencia de la utopía zapatista. Aparte de que sus principales mentores o valedores en Europa como Saramago, Manuel Vázquez Montalbán o Danielle Mitterrand han fallecido y los han dejado huérfanos. Lo cierto es que las nuevas generaciones ya no los recuerdan, sufren de amnesia y es necesario refrescarles la memoria.
Sup Galeano declaró desde la Realidad, en la selva Lacandona (Chiapas) que tuvieron que sortear muchos problemas para materializar esta travesía interoceánica empezando por los reparos que les pusieron las autoridades mexicanas con el consabido papeleo burocrático.
Porque el EZLN quiere contribuir al despertar de la sociedad mundial ante los males que engendra el capitalismo y también transformar la conciencia colectiva nacional para que asuma la legendaria consigna de “otro mundo es posible” De alguna manera tienen que mantener viva la llama de la rebeldía en estos tiempos difíciles no solo de crisis social, económica, o del coronavirus, sino también ideológica.
Todavía no se sabe cuál va a ser la reacción de las autoridades sanitarias europeas cuando el navío zapatista recale frente a las costas gallegas para iniciar la “invasión” de los indígenas al revés. Si hace 500 años de los conquistadores españoles al mando de Francisco Hernández de Córdoba desembarcaron en Isla Mujeres ahora les toca el turno a los zapatistas de desquitarse. Este es un gran golpe propagandístico que pretende captar nuevos adeptos y también recoger fondos económicos imprescindibles para la supervivencia del proyecto del EZLN.
Tienen planeado desembarcar dentro de seis semanas en Vigo a bordo de sus cayucos-lanchas (que transportan en las bodegas de la nave) y en cuanto pongan pie en tierra la compa Marijose recitará con voz solemne: “en representación de las mujeres, hombres, niños y ancianos declaro que el nombre de esta tierra, a la que sus naturales llaman Europa, de aquí en adelante se llamará SLUMIL K’AJXEMK’ OP que quiere decir “Tierra insumisa o Tierra que no se resigna” Así será conocida por propios y extraños mientras haya aquí alguien que no se rinda, que no se venda, que no claudique” Doy fe.
