On July 23, the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) acknowledged that two commanders and a fighter of its all-female force, the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), were killed in a Turkish drone strike that took place a day earlier.
The three YPJ members were traveling on a road near the town of al-Qamishli in the northern al-Hasakah countryside when their vehicle was targeted by a Turkish combat drone.
In a statement, the SDF identified the slain women as Salwa Yusuf, a commander of the YPJ’s Anti-Terror Units (YAT), Juanah Hisso, a field commander of the force, and YAT fighter Raha Bashar.
