Peru: Forces mobilize after Castillo’s narrow populist left VICTORY.. Eng/Esp

Great news for the people!.. if promises of free health, education and social security really happen, if the police and army aren’t lined up on the side of the ruling class criminals, and if the marxist Castillo doesn’t sell out immediately, or hasn’t altready!

Castillo’s victory a political earthquake

Pedro Castillo’s victory in the Peruvian presidential elections is a great political earthquake, reflecting the enormous social and political polarization in the Andean country. The ruling class has suffered a massive defeat on the part of the masses, at the hand of the militant teacher unionist at the head of a party, Peru Libre, which describes itself as Marxist, Leninist and Mariateguist.

We had been occupying that house for many months, thanks to the meager protections granted during the pandemic and that fact that the landlord Neil MacLean is a giant pushover we were able to prolong the eviction for months. That in itself is a victory as under normal circumstances squats don’t tend to last longer than a week.

Turkish Hitler increased Nudem’s jail to 29 years.. for Singing in Kurdish!.. sign petition

Nudem, a talented young singer, was thrown into jail in Turkey, for “promoting Kurdish propaganda by teaching Kurdish folk songs to youth music groups”.

In July 2016, Durak’s prison sentence was increased from 10.5 to 19 years, with no additional charges brought against her. She is due for release in 2034.[7]

June 10, 2021 Nudem’s family learned on Wednesday June 9th that Nûdem has again received ”disciplinary measure for “disobedience”, probably again for singing for her jail mates. She is one of tens of thousands of political prisoners in Turkey

Durak began to sing about the age of 12, and bought her first guitar by selling her mother’s wedding ring.[4] She worked as a music teacher in the town of Cizre in South East Turkey at the Memuzin Cultural Centre.[5] She is held in Type E Closed Prison in Mardin, Turkey.

For 17 years, June 11th has been an occasion for celebration, mourning, and revolt. It has been a moment to breathe, to remember those fallen and those in cages, to remind ourselves of why we remain committed to the Beautiful Idea of anarchism.
