China Issues a Nuclear Warning to Donald Trump and the United States

The Chinese leadership would rather die (and take us all with them) than accept the immense loss of face of bowing to the absurd macho imperial ambitions of Donald Trump

Beijing — Following comments made by White House spokesman Sean Spicer on Monday in which he said the United States would absolutely protect its interests in the South China Sea, the Asian superpower has fired back through its state-run media — going so far as to suggest China should beef up its nuclear arsenal in the face of Donald Trump’s presidency.

As reported by the newswire service Agence-France Presse (AFP) on Tuesday, “In recent days, Chinese social media has carried pictures purporting to show an advanced intercontinental ballistic missile system deployed in the Northeast.”

That missile system, the Dongfeng-41, was described by China’s state-run Global Times in a Tuesday editorial as “a nuclear solid-fuel road-mobile” system with “a range of 14,000 kilometers and a payload of 10-12 nuclear warheads” that can “target anywhere in the world” and is “widely considered one the most advanced intercontinental ballistic missiles.” Continue reading “China Issues a Nuclear Warning to Donald Trump and the United States”

To Destroy Domination in All Its Forms: Anarcha-Feminist Theory, Organization and Action 1970-1978

As anarchists look for genealogies of principles and praxis in a variety of social movements, from the anarcho-pacifists who spoke out against World War II to anarchists who joined the Black Power movement, so too should they look for their feminist foremothers, not only in the early 20^th century anarchist movement but in the radical women’s movement of the 1970s.

Many radical feminists shared anarchist goals such as ending domination, hierarchy, capitalism, gender roles, and interpersonal violence, and utilized and influenced the key anarchist organizational structure of the small leaderless affinity group. They grappled with the questions of how to balance autonomy and egalitarianism and create nonhierarchical organizations that also promoted personal growth and leadership. In 1974 Lynne Farrow wrote, “Feminism practices what anarchism preaches.”

GIRLS RUN WORLD: A REPORT BACK FROM LOS ANGELES

Submitted to It’s Going Down…… LOOK, Los Angeles is getting a lot of attention for the 750,000 participants of the Women’s March. In all the reports there is not one mention that, for the last two days, breakaway marches have stormed DTLA. LA often gets passed over in report-backs that list things like these anti-Trump protests because politics here tend to be very localized and are not necessarily in a coded political framework. But folks in LA are lit and deeply tuned into the way speculative capital is destroying our city.

The first day was a march against the parade of nonprofits: forty organizations working together, from Code Pink to Union del Barrio to ANSWER. Though they gave many speeches their words rang hollow on a crowd that had heard it all before. It became obvious that the crowd wanted to have a march that was not in collaboration with the cops or the state. Some rowdy kids––queer, trans, black, brown, and white––grabbed the megaphone and announced that we should march. And so we did.
