Fascism expresses itself in familiar and comforting national and religious symbols, which is why it comes in various varieties and forms. Italian fascism, which looked back to the glory of the Roman Empire, for example, never shared the Nazis’ love of Teutonic and Nordic myths. American fascism too will reach back to traditional patriotic symbols, narratives and beliefs.

College-educated elites, on behalf of corporations, carried out the savage neoliberal assault on the working poor. Now they are being made to pay. Their duplicity—embodied in politicians such as Bill and Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama—succeeded for decades. These elites, many from East Coast Ivy League schools, spoke the language of values—civility, inclusivity, a condemnation of overt racism and bigotry, a concern for the middle class—while thrusting a…

Against Democracy? Tyranny of the most Voted

…..”Okay Democracy is a farce, but better than dictatorship?” you say.. but what if 51% vote for the extermination of the 49%, ? and so on..? The immense power of the modern nation state ensures that reactionary parties almost always get a majority as we are all rather dependant and brainwashed.  democracy
Starting new parties only means they can win with a smaller percentage. Then even if revolution could ever win it’s just in one State, while the real power stays with International Capitalists. And in the rare case that people’s  power triumphs we see our delegated candidates sell out and change sides as if by a law of nature… And if we ever did vote for revolution? That’s when the army takes power….
Is there a better alternative ????…..
Direct Democracy?..Consensus Democracy?..  Anarchism?.. Autonomy?  Topless Federations?..

Living with Chooks: Bio digester slurry processing

chickens

Permeco Inc.'s avatarPermEco Inc.

Every morning I have a routine with our chickens. I come into the yard, sort out their water, put cut grass into their forage area and then I open the night pen to let them out. By that time they have been talking to me and each other whilst I have been preparing their food and done their water, telling me all about their night.

When I open their pen they stream out, and I bee-line it straight for the bio digester slurry area with them following and overtaking me. In this area the bio digester pits are emptied and the chickens process the mix of liquid cow poop and sawdust by pecking through it and adding some of their own manure. I encourage the process by throwing their morning feed all over the second pile (the first pile is too wet, the subsequent ones are not of interest to…

After a decade of struggle for conservation of the natural wealth of their territory, the community of San Francisco, Xochicuautla, Mexico State, obtained the definitive suspension of the construction of the Toluca-Naucalpan highway that threatened their forest. Following ten years of various strategies, political and legal, the suspension opposed the presidential decree of 2015 for the expropriation of 37 hectares of the ejido for the construction of the highway.

The infrastructure project was promoted by the then-governor of the State of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto. The company in charge of the construction of the highway, Autopistas de Vanguardia S.A., is part of the Grupo Higa, which sold the so-called “White House” to the wife of the current President of the Republic for seven million pesos, causing a…

The Real Irish American Story Not Taught in Schools

irish-famine

By Bill Bigelow

March 18, 2016 “Information Clearing House” – “Zinn Education Project“-  “Wear green on St. Patrick’s Day or get pinched.” That pretty much sums up the Irish-American “curriculum” that I learned when I was in school. Yes, I recall a nod to the so-called Potato Famine, but it was mentioned only in passing.

Sadly, today’s high school textbooks continue to largely ignore the famine, despite the fact that it was responsible for unimaginable suffering and the deaths of more than a million Irish peasants, and that it triggered the greatest wave of Irish immigration in U.S. history. Nor do textbooks make any attempt to help students link famines past and present.

Yet there is no shortage of material that can bring these dramatic events to life in the classroom. In my own high school social studies classes, I begin with Sinead O’Connor’s haunting rendition…
