Evan Reif The Ukrainian identity, complex as it is, was shaped by the many groups that inhabited the territories wedged between forces in Moscow and Warsaw.
This rich culture that birthed literary geniuses like Taras Schevchenko, Ivan Kotliarevsky, and Nikolai Gogol, has become coopted by those who glorify a narrow, “Galician” view of what it […]
As Moroccan police and U.S. trained security forces were beating to death African migrants, AFRICOM was carrying out “Operation African Lion” military exercises in Morocco.
Video images captured the horrific actions of Moroccan security forces armed and trained by the United States through the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) and workingwith and on behalf of the Spanish government, systematically beating and slaughtering African migrants on June 24, 2022
. The migrants’ only crime was attempting to cross from Morocco to Europe via the Spanish held enclave of Melilla. For that, at least 39 human beings were beaten to death, as recorded by the NGO Walking Borders.
This racist barbarism by a U.S.-backed neo-colonial regime and the lack of swift and unambiguous condemnation by the U.S. State demonstrates, yet again, that human life, especially African lives hold no value for U.S. officials.
The Black Alliance for Peace (BAP) denounces first, the Moroccan government’s security forces and the Spanish government for their collaboration in this massacre and their ongoing dehumanizing treatment of African asylum seekers.
We must note that, as the Moroccan police were beating and hog-tying the African migrants, AFRICOM was carrying out “Operation African Lion” military exercises in Morocco with more than 7,500 troops from Western nations and African neo-colonies.
Soon after, NATO nations (the coterie of U.S. minions) held their meeting in Spain, with no acknowledgement of the massacre.
We especially condemn the United States government for its unmitigated hypocrisy in claiming that its presence and policies in Africa are to “promote regional security, stability, and prosperity.”
The only securing and stabilizing AFRICOM and U.S. policy are doing in Africa are for the prosperity of international finance capital and hegemony of U.S. interests.
We know that U.S. militarism — which guarantees European imperialism on the African continent, while giving cover to the repressive actions of neo-colonial states such as Morocco – will continue to be the main cause of escalating violence for the African people.
“All evidence suggests that U.S. militarism and training of police, and other repressive forces in Africa has only intensified death and destruction;” says Netfa Freeman, Co-Coordinator of BAP’s Africa Team
And we demand, once again, that the U.S. get out of Africa and that NATO and AFRICOM be shut down!
BAP extends solidarity to all the African migrants and their families, victims of the brutal racist attack. We also demand a full independent investigation and indictment of the actions of Morocco, Spain, and the U.S.
The Black Alliance for Peace calls on all anti-imperialists to join the U.S. Out of Africa Network to help us achieve this imperative.
Over the past two days, 5 children have been killed by Ukrainian shelling in the Donbass. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are intentionally shelling residential areas.
As a result, the number of civilian casualties is growing every day. Residents of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics have been suffering from the terrorist war of the Kiev regime for eight years.
On July 6, 7 civilians were killed in the Donetsk People’s Republic, including three children. 28 civilians were injured, including 8 children.
On July 6, the AFU shelled the residential quarter in the town of Makeevka with a Hurricane MLRS. As a result of the attack, three children and a man were killed.
The victims are an 8-years-old girl, a 7-years old boy and a 17-years-old boy. 10 others civilians were injured, including 7 children.
The military experts of the JCCC of the DPR confirmed the shelling of the Central City district of Makeyevka with the use of a BM-27 “Hurricane” MLRS with a 9M27K cluster warhead.
The AFU fired at the densely populated area of Makeyevka from their positions located near the locality of Solovyovo.
Ukranazi coup regime sacked its own “human rights” chief for making up dozens of stories of Russian soldiers raping children, etcetera…. Stories which were reprinted billions of times worldwide by the pro-US media. But the blueyellows, aided freely by PR agencies, still churn outa tsunami of absurdly false propaganda.
Why aren’t there more news media reports about the situation in Afrin? Turkey does not allow reporters into the Afrin region, unless they are strictly managed and do not stray from their official Turkish handlers.
Ethnic cleansing was the goal of the Turkish invasion,. Turkey has waged a long-term war against ethnic Kurds, and the invasion of Afrin was part of that campaign. Prior to the invasion, the inhabitants of the region identifying as Kurdish was over 95 percent.
Today, that number is less than 20 percent, according to the Human Rights Organization of Afrin. The Kurds who remain are subject to harassment and brutality at the hands of the Turkish authorities and the Turkish-backed militia members.

Sinam Sherkany Mohamad is the Co-Chair of the US Mission of the Syrian Democratic Council. She is herself a Kurdish woman from Afrin, Syria.
In early 2018, the Turkish military invaded Afrin. The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) came to the defense of the people there in a fierce and bloody struggle, but the region fell to the advanced weaponry and air power of the Turkish military on March 18, 2018
. The Turkish government now occupies the region, flying the Turkish flag and changing signs and placenames to the Turkish language, forcing schoolchildren to learn Turkish, and pasting Turkish President Erdogan’s picture in public places – patrolled by Turkish-backed militias calling themselves the “Syrian National Army.”
More than 300,000 people have fled the region of Afrin, Syria, since March 2018. Most are living as internally-displaced persons (IDPs) elsewhere in Syria. About 20 percent have been able to return to check on their homes.
All of these are seriously damaging to US civil society. But another recent ruling by the Supreme Court on climate change will impact the world.
On June 30, the court ruled that the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) does not have the authority to broadly limit carbon emissions for existing power plants.
The US Supreme Court has issued a series of rulings that seriously upset the rule of law in America. Most notably, the court stripped women’s rights to abortion at the federal level.
Other rulings on issues such as gun control and secularism have curtailed the country’s forward progress.
Keith McHenry of Food Not Bombs is interviewed by Paul Cudenec
Paul Cudenec:Thanks very much for agreeing to this exchange, Keith. It is very encouraging to know that in this age of near-universal deceit and hypocrisy, there are still individuals out there who stand true to their values. First of all, I gather you have a proud family history of fighting for freedom, going back to the American struggle for independence from Britain?
Keith McHenry:Thanks Paul, at this point there is nothing more important than resisting this rush to the totalitarian police state. Our liberty, humanity and connection to the natural world is at stake and we don’t have much time to stop this catastrophe. Events grow more dire every day so, by the time people read this, the devastation of war, censorship, famine and digital slavery may be so severe many in our audience are likely…
