Trump Threatens Contraceptive Access for Millions of Women

‘Appalling’ Draft Rule by Trump Threatens Contraceptive Access for Millions of Women

The proposal, if finalized, would be ‘a license to discriminate and an affront to all women,’ said Gretchen Borchelt of the National Women’s Law Center.

The draft regulation, obtained by Vox, is dated May 23, and “would significantly overhaul the birth control mandate as it had been implemented by the Obama administration,” write Dylan Scott and Sarah Kliff.Image result for trump to block birth control

Ecuador rips up 16 toxic treaties.. Corporate Vulture-Courts stole $21 billion

Image result for investor state dispute settlement by   Nick Dearden / Global Justice Now           Ecuador is the latest country to tear up ‘free trade’ agreements that have so far cost the country $21 billion in damages awarded to foreign companies by ‘corporate courts’, and yielded next to nothing in return, writes Nick Dearden. So the outgoing President Correa did the only sensible thing: in one of his final executive acts this month, he scrapped 16 toxic trade and investment treaties.Image result for investor state dispute settlementThese treaties not only failed to attract additional investment, they also diverted millions of dollars of government money to fighting costly lawsuits. We hope other governments will learn from Ecuador’s example.

Ecuador has struck another blow against the power of big business, ripping up 16 trade deals with countries including the US and UK…. Continue reading “Ecuador rips up 16 toxic treaties.. Corporate Vulture-Courts stole $21 billion”

Brazilian Anarchists on the Crisis in Brazil

Robert Graham's avatarRobert Graham's Anarchism Weblog

Brazil is back in the news as people there begin again to mobilize against corrupt politicians (for a detailed analysis of the corruption itself, see this article from the Guardian newspaper). It’s been four years since the “Free Pass Movement” that began as a protest against transit fare increases and turned into a movement for free access to a variety of public services. Since then the most corrupt of the Brazilian politicians forced the impeachment of the President, Dilma Rousseff, replacing her with someone even more corrupt, Michel Temer. On May 24, 2017, Temer issued a decree for the military enforcement of “law and order.” In the piece below by Coordenação Anarquista Brasileira (Brazilian Anarchist Coordination, CAB), the CAB calls for the intensification of the popular movements for political power through directly democratic organizations (translation from anarkismo.net).

Direct democracy now!

Brazil is experiencing a political earthquake, laying…

It’s Time to Banish the Police and Burn the Prisons: here’s the Proof

trumpflagI could write about the newest murder committed by the police, could write about the newest life lost behind bars, but what would be the point? Like cancer and massive debt these things hold no shock value for us anymore.
We’ve come to expect them in our everyday life, stare blankly as body after body goes into a cell or into the ground. We argue about “prison reform” and “better training” yet still the blood flows. Above all, all maintain that while it’s not pretty police and prisons are necessary for any society. These people are, in the parlance of our times, spineless and servile little worms who are hideously, grotesquely wrong. Why you Can’t be a Feminist if you’re Not an Anarchist

Is every feminist secretly an anarchist?

Feminism is not feminism if it is not antisexist, but also must be:

  • Antiracist (for wimmin of color)
  • Anticapitalist (for working class wimmin)
  • Female+Female love-positive (for lesbians and bisexual wimmin)
  • Anti-state (against the state control of wimmin’s autonomy, rejecting patriarchal protection rackets)
  • Anti-hierarchy (against wimmin exploiting other wimmin)

I can’t tell you how many wimmin have been turned away from anarchism — the politics of opposing all hierarchy — due to male violence, male abuse, male threats, male testerics. And that is an awful shame, because wimmin have the greatest chance for achieving anarchy. It’s pretty simple… Forget all your preconceptions about what anarchism is. Forget malestream anarchism with its male fantasies of “let’s kill all the bad people and we will win” because that’s just naive. Men are pretty dumb, let’s be honest. They expect everything to be cleaned up after them. Continue reading “Why you Can’t be a Feminist if you’re Not an Anarchist”

A Warming Planet Jolts the Iconic Creatures of the Galápagos

Unknown's avatarGarryRogers Nature Conservation

GR: This beautifully illustrated story gives details on a number of species being harmed by climate change. All animals must struggle to survive. Now, with human-caused global warming, their struggle is becoming more difficult. Deaths are increasing, and extinction has appeared on the horizon. Yay people!

A fascinating video and more photos accompany the original post. Click the “continue” link following the story.

National Geographic: “Jon Witman checks his air gauge, adjusts his flippers, and falls backward into the Pacific. Nearby, the ocean throws itself against Isla Beagle, one of a hundred-plus rocks, pinnacles, and islands that form the Galápagos archipelago, a province of Ecuador that straddles the Equator. Rebuffed, the sea retreats in a white flag of foam.

“On a shelf above the spray, blue-footed boobies dance with the awkwardness of teens at a junior high prom. Below them on the rocks, an argument breaks out between two Galápagos…

Activists arrested in Turkey for solidarity with hunger strikers

Image result for Nuriye Gulmen and Semih Ozakca*.Nuriye Gülmen and Semih Özakça

by  mikail firtinaci         An anarchist comrade along with several others were arrested violently by the police during a solidarity demonstration with Nuriye Gulmen and Semih Ozakca*.

Yesterday an anarchist-comrade along with several others were arrested violently by the police during a solidarity demonstration with Nuriye Gulmen and Semih Ozakca*. Comrades in question are held arbitrarily by the police in custody and in protest of their treatment, yesterday they went on an indefinite hunger strike until they are released.

As the anniversary of the Gezi Revolt approaches (the end of May) fascist Erdogan government fears another revolt against its violent dictatorial regime. It is keeping every protester it can arrest as hostage. I will update this as more information arrives. As always, but as it becomes more and more clear everyday, our only weapon against the state and sectarian violence directed everywhere against the working class is international solidarity!
