New Occupation in Calais

consensusdecisionmaking's avatarCalais Migrant Solidarity

For years, the government and the prefecture of Calais have been destroying living places. For years, people in Calais have been assaulted by police and fascists and have had their belongings destroyed . For years, people are forced to live in fear and insecurity because they are foreigners.

The jungle is a ghetto, created by the government following the evictions of squats and other jungles. People live there together in an autonomous way, in diversity and community, in sometimes filthy conditions, where violence and racism are always present. It would be easy to use the rhetoric of pity and victimisation that some associations like, just as easy as it would be to condemn the jungle for being dysfunctional. For better or worse, the jungle is a space where people can live , and now they have to fight for this space. Even if the jungle is precarious, it is still…

Greece: Protesters rally against EU-Turkey refugee deal in Lesbos

26 March 2016

Protesters rallied in Mytilene port on the island of Lesbos on Saturday against the agreement between the EU and Turkey for the return of refugees.

Refugees, local residents and volunteers from NGOs marched in solidarity with refugees and to denounce the EU’s refugee policies and NATO’s involvement in tackling the refugee crisis.

Starting from the port, protesters marched through the city to stop by a Greek Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy building, where police were deployed to prevent any violent incidents. The protesters then marched back to the port.

Seven reflections on Liberating Tate

As BP’s sponsorship of the Tate ends, Kevin Smith of Liberate Tate looks back at the successful campaign to get the oil firm’s dirty money out of the art galleryliberate Tate
After six years of Liberate Tate spilling oil, squirting paint tubes, flapping huge squares of cloth, counting carbon levels with our voices, learning how to give tattoos, installing giant wind turbine blades and melting Arctic ice, we learned last week that the Tate-BP relationship was over. Here’s some of what we learned from our efforts to push big oil out of the arts.
1) This was about Tate, but much more about BP

Our work on Tate is about trying to kick some of the supporting legs out from underneath BP’s chair – taking a relationship that nurtures and sustains BP and transforming it into one that was actively damaging for the company.

London, 19/03/2016.- Activistes del moviment Liberate Tate celebren que la companya British Petroleum retira el patrocini del museu Tate Modern. Durant anys, han estat fent accions creatives per denunciar el rentat verd d´aquesta contaminant petroliera. Continue reading “Tate Gallery liberated from Fossil Fools (+ video)”

‘Live Wolf Protected Wolf’ yell 10,000 in Madrid ‘Lobo vivo, lobo protegido

save the wolf

There are over a million licensed hunters in Spain.. and most of them would love to shoot a wolf. But last week over 10,000 people marched in Madrid demanding more protection for wolves, the biggest ever demo in favour of one species and the environment..

Existing law gives minimal protection and compensation for losses of livestock.

In the last decades millions have abandoned rural life in Spain,  forest and wildlife have recovered and the wolf has increased its territory somewhat, despite continual repression.

The wolf is a ‘top predator’ and a key factor in the ecological chain built up over millions of years. Studies in the US show that reintroducing wolves completely transformed the habitats. eg. they controlled the plague of deer which had destroyed tree shoots, leading to forest regeneration, leading to stabilising watersheds leading to beaver dams, leading to fish revival leading to….etc..  (see video)

Chris Hedges: The Revenge of the Lower Classes and the Rise of American Fascism

Rise Up Times's avatarRise Up Times

Fascism expresses itself in familiar and comforting national and religious symbols, which is why it comes in various varieties and forms. Italian fascism, which looked back to the glory of the Roman Empire, for example, never shared the Nazis’ love of Teutonic and Nordic myths. American fascism too will reach back to traditional patriotic symbols, narratives and beliefs.

College-educated elites, on behalf of corporations, carried out the savage neoliberal assault on the working poor. Now they are being made to pay. Their duplicity—embodied in politicians such as Bill and Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama—succeeded for decades. These elites, many from East Coast Ivy League schools, spoke the language of values—civility, inclusivity, a condemnation of overt racism and bigotry, a concern for the middle class—while thrusting a…

New Eye-Opening Documentary Completely Exposes Barbaric Saudi Regime…finally!

from The Anti-Media.org with thanks

A British television crew  filmed an undercover docu in Saudi Arabia and penetrated the world’s most secretive and murderous regime. Working with a team of undercover Saudi cameramen, the one hour eye-opener, Exposure: Saudi Arabia Uncovered reveals the horrific side of the regime, which buys billions of pounds worth of British arms, accepts training from British security forces, sells oil back to the U.K., and enjoys nothing less than red carpet treatment from the British royal family.
