The wild popularity of Ozempic is bad news for McDonald’s, a British bank told investors

British bank Barclays is urging investors to short stocks in junk food retailers like McDonald’s and Pepsi due to the surging popularity of weight loss drugs such as Ozempic.

More than 40 percent of U.S. adults, including about 20 percent of children and teens, are considered obese. These Americans face elevated risks for type 2 diabetes, heart disease, liver disease, and various cancers, along with mobility issues associated with being overweight.

28.7 million of mainly poor US people have been diagnosed with diabetes and many are dependent on the drug Ozempic. When it was seen that Ozempic causes strong weight loss it was repurposed under the name Wegeby costing up to $1500 a month.

Even so its now so crazily popular with the rich its often hard for diabetics to find their medication.

If every obese US person were on semaglutide (the active ingredient) at its current price of $15,000 a year, the total cost would be roughly 10 percent of the entire U.S. economy, or $2.1 trillion. That’s not going to happen.

In the past six months, Hollywood Ozempic stories have reached an obnoxious level of ubiquity. TikTok has become overrun with #myozempicjourney testimonials and week-by-week photo collages of disappearing waistlines.

Endorsed by celebrities, Ozempic has already made its manufacturer the most valuable company in the EU.

In a note to investors on Tuesday, Barclays strategist Jigar Patel warned that the share price of firms such as McDonald’s Corp., PepsiCo Inc., and Altria Group Inc, the last of which owns multiple cigarette brands, may be set to take a dive.

Pharmaceuticals known as GLP-1 agonists may be responsible for this, Patel noted, according to a report by Bloomberg. GLP-1 agonists are used in the treatment of diabetes and can aid weight loss by slowing digestion and boosting the body’s consumption of its own fat reserves.

Anecdotal evidence also suggests that these drugs reduce cravings for addictive substances such as alcohol and nicotine.

Danish drugmaker Novo Nordisk has been developing these drugs for more than a decade, and markets them under the names Ozempic and Wegovy.

Novo Nordisk’s share value has more than tripled since 2020, pushing the company’s market capitalization above Denmark’s entire GDP and briefly dethroning French luxury conglomerate LVMH as the EU’s most valuable company.

**Tesla CEO Elon Musk credited Wegovy as making him feel “fit, ripped, and healthy” last year, while the drug has been endorsed by a host of Hollywood actors.**

“The impacts of GLP-1s potentially introduce disruption into a number of industries,” Patel wrote, with Bloomberg noting that an index of packaged food companies on the S&P 500 has fallen 14% this year, even as the entire S&P has risen by around 10%.

However, Patel advised investors that some firms will benefit from the weight loss craze, including CVS Health Corp., which owns the CVS pharmacy chain and Aetna health insurance company.

While strong sales and a rash of good publicity has made Novo Nordisk extremely wealthy, European regulators are currently probing Ozempic and Wegovy over reports that they cause suicidal thoughts and self-harm among some users.

The EU and other western states are not far behind, with cheap fattening addictive ‘junkfood’ priming the obesity plague.

Most obese people can’t stop eating, their body and organs are hooked. So at a reasonable price semaglutide can stop their hunger pangs, slim and trim them and restore them to health.

The obvious solution is to force the profiteers to allow it to be a generic drug,and make it cheaply or freely available to obesity sufferers under national health systems,

In early 2023, however, they represent an elite cultural scam more than a medical intervention. The market is symptomatic of criminal predator exploitation, medical, vaccine and big pharma speculation and fake dangerous weight-loss cures, rather than any concern for public health, especially in the US.

Over the past four decades, a collection of data gathered from a remote coral reef within Palau’s territorial waters has revealed a surprising and hopeful trend; that corals possess an impressive capacity to adapt to warming oceans.

Contrary to earlier beliefs, these underwater ecosystems have not only demonstrated adaptability but have done so at an impressive rate of 0.18°F per decade. As a result, researchers argue that existing coral bleaching events should be revised to explain that these phenomenal ecosystems have the ability to sustain themselves over the course of decades.

This groundbreaking study, spearheaded by Newcastle University, centered its attention on the Pacific Island nation of Palau. Drawing upon decades of field observations and a multitude of potential future coral bleaching scenarios, each reflecting a different simulated rate of thermal tolerance enhancement, the researchers came to a crucial conclusion.

If coral thermal tolerance continues to rise throughout the 21^st century, at the most likely historical rate that was observed, then the potential for a “significant” reduction in bleaching impacts are actually possible.

Study lead author, Liam Lachs, said, “We quantified a natural increase in coral thermal tolerance over decadal time scales which can be directly compared to the rate of ocean warming.”

The study authors also say that high-frequency bleaching can be fully eased at particular reefs that have low-to-middle emissions scenarios, such as those where the Paris Agreement commitments are fulfilled.

Study co-author, Dr. James Guest, explained, “We know that coral reefs can increase their overall thermal tolerance over time by acclimatization, genetic adaptation, or shifts in community structure, however we know very little about the rates at which this is occurring.”

“This study uses data from a remote Pacific coral reef system and estimates the rate of increase in tolerance since the late 1980s. The results provide some hope that reefs can keep up with increasing temperatures, but only if strong action is taken on climate change,” he adds.

Coral communities face a daunting challenge in the era of climate change, one characterized by increasingly intense and frequent marine heatwaves. The researchers also point out the importance of enhancing the ability of coral ecosystems to endure these environmental stressors as a key strategy for their survival.

Delving into the specifics of their discoveries, the Newcastle team’s research suggests that the thermal tolerance of corals in Palau has experienced an impressive increase of approximately 0.1°C per decade since the late 1980s.

Such a substantial uptick implies the involvement of natural mechanisms, including genetic adaptation, acclimatization of corals, or even changes in their symbiotic microalgae, which could collectively contribute to the enhancement of coral thermal tolerance.

In the broader context of climate change and ecological dynamics, it’s worth noting that several early models and predictions have been revised in light of new research findings.

This includes reassessing the impact of ruminant agriculture on greenhouse gas emissions and reevaluating the extent of plastic pollution entering the ocean, which has recently been suggested to have been overestimated by a factor of 30.

While some scientists are actively exploring the potential for corals to adapt to changing conditions, others are taking a proactive approach. Researchers in Florida, for instance, are engaged in the selective breeding of corals that show genetic adaptations rendering them less vulnerable to the threats of both rising temperatures and increasingly acidic waters.

These efforts represent an inspiring testament to human innovation and determination to safeguard these vital marine ecosystems.

Last week the Nobel Prize for Medicine was awarded to two people for inventing a vaccine that doesn’t work against a disease that doesn’t exist.

Not since Barack Obama’s Nobel Prize has the ceremony been rendered so ridiculous.

Obama was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize after less than two weeks in office and went on to be at war with at least two nations for every single day of his eight years as President.

…and, even so, this is still more of a joke. That’s how ludicrous it is.

It parallels the treatment of AstraZeneca CEO Pascal Soriot – sorry that should be Sir Pascal Soriot. After all, he was handed a knighthood by the British royal family. One of the few global institutions more obviously corrupt than the Nobel Prize Committee.

The knighthood was a “well done” for AZ’s own Covid “vaccine”.

…that would be the one multiple countries no longer administer because it causes blood clots.

It’s unclear if Weissman and Karikó are amongst the 40 new billionaires created by the “pandemic”, but the patents they licensed to BioNTech and Moderna certainly make it theoretically possible. Soriot is without doubt a millionaire and, patents or no, the other two will be joining him thanks to the Nobel prize fund.

In late July, in my piece on why ‘you should NEVER “Trust the Science”’, I wrote the following:

As Tom Lehrer observed after Kissinger won his own Nobel Peace Prize, “political satire has become obsolete”. But at least it serves as a reminder of the nature of “The Science^TM” and the rules of the game.

“The Science^TM” is a self-sustaining industry of academics who need jobs and owe favours. An ongoing quid pro quo relationship between the researchers – who want honors and knighthoods…and the corporations, governments and “charitable foundations” who have all of those things in their gift.

…and the world wasted almost no time in proving my point.

This piece is so perfect! Nice to see someone else use the word shill.

Nobel Prize winners appear to have something in common: Their discoveries or patents (wittingly or not) are used to promote scientific, political or economic fraud, and benefit the powers that shouldn’t be.

Very little of “the science” especially pertaining to allopathic medicine, is evidence based.

If you look deep into the social security system, it looks like a benefit program, but in reality its a mechanism to control you financially, almost like you can’t spend more than you declare at retirement as we shoot your health care costs into orbit.

The true signifier of the values of “our” award system is SIR Jimmy Savile. From the establishment point of view, it was unfortunate that his … proclivities got out. He became known for what he was to the public. But his mates up there in that firmament didn’t have any problem at all with him.
