US drugmaker Pfizer is seeking an Emergency Use Authorization to allow its Covid-19 vaccine to be given to children aged between five and 11. The shot has already been authorized for kids over 12.

Pfizer announced on Thursday that it had submitted a request for an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), several weeks after it began submitting trial data from five- to 11-year-olds to the US regulator.

Should the FDA grant Pfizer’s request, the pharma firm’s vaccine would be the first Covid-19 shot authorized for children so young. Pfizer’s two-shot regimen has already been given an EUA for children aged 12 to 15, and is fully approved for anyone over 16.

The FDA could issue an authorization by the end of this month. White House coronavirus adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci told MSNBC in September, “We could start vaccinating children, hopefully before the end of October.” Pfizer..hopes to start child vaccinations by end of October

However, the FDA will need to consider whether Pfizer’s data makes a clear enough case for pediatric vaccination, and what dosage would be appropriate for kids so young.

The FDA does not always march in lockstep with the Biden administration, and even within the agency, there is sometimes dissent. Last month, an FDA panel voted overwhelmingly against rolling out booster shots of Pfizer’s jab to American adults, shutting down President Joe Biden’s promise to make these boosters available by September 20.

Four to five tons of dead fish were removed from the lagoon within a week. Shortly thereafter, a large demonstration took place, surrounding the entire lagoon on August 28, 2021.. ^[7]

The lagoon has suffered ecocide, every environmental crime imaginable, for decades, ignored by the right wing authorities of the conservative People’s Party and despite strong local defense campaigns.

In 1925 the Italian anarchist Errico Malatesta wrote that Anarchy is a form of living together in society; a society in which people live as brothers and sisters without being able to oppress or exploit others and in which everyone has at their disposal whatever means the civilisation of the time can supply in order for them to attain the greatest possible moral and material development.

And Anarchism is the method of reaching anarchy, through freedom, without government – that is, without those authoritarian institutions that impose their will on others by force . . . (Malatesta 1995, 52)

In this passage Malatesta distinguishes between anarchy as a goal and anarchism as a method of achieving this goal. One of the interesting features of Malatesta’s theory is that he views anarchy itself as both a goal and an on-going process.

He refers to anarchy as a “form of living together in society” which has to be continuously produced and reproduced over time, rather than a static unchanging utopia.

Problems in sight in Spain and Portugal: gas crisis due to the conflict between Algeria and Morocco

The diplomatic crisis between Algeria and Morocco has led to the non-renewal of the Tarifa gas pipeline (GME), one of the main entry routes for Algerian gas into Spain.

The Spanish Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, had to travel to Algeria to ensure the supply of gas to Spanish territory. The situation is difficult for Madrid, since everything presages a harsh winter in the country, while on the other hand it wishes not to further anger its Moroccan neighbor.

All wrapped up in a major global energy crisis that is affecting global markets.

insert: Algeria is dependent on dwindling gas and oil extraction to feed its large and very young population. The climate is changing with fierce heatwaves and the ecosystems are fragile and suffering. Perhaps a partial solution for Algeria would be to stop gas exports and contract massive solar panels with Chinese companies to sell cheap, relatively CO2-free and methane-free electricity to Europe.

World energy crisis

The price of energy and raw materials has suffered a sharp rise in recent times, specifically, gas has reached 76,1 euros per megawatt per hour, that is, it is an increase of 73 % compared to last August 15.
