SIDE BY SIDE we confront Repression

Various anarchist groups have together launched the SIDE BY SIDE campaign . Let’s jointly face the repression and show solidarity with the people indicted more than two years ago in the so-called Operation Piñata, and other similar operations that, with the excuse of anti-terrorism, have attacked the anarchist movement.

SIDE BY SIDE, facing together the repression that seeks to dissuade us, immobilize us, discourage us. Together, not isolated. With the strength that we try to understand our differences and learn to find ourselves in complicities.
SIDE BY SIDE, that’s what we call this campaign, this cry of resistance, this new challenge to power. Another attempt to break the silence, to make visible the social conflict increasingly evident as a result of the sharpening of the structural crisis of the capitalist system.

‘Week of Solidarity Against Repression’ Across the World

By  It’s Going Down      The idea for the Week of Solidarity Against Repression started as networks of friends began talking, thinking, and writing about the build up of repressive forces following the inauguration of Trump. This reality manifested itself in the felony charges leveled at over 200 people arrested in the mass kettle in Washington DC on January 20th, over 800 water protectors targeted by grand juries, and over 100 antifascists in Sacramento who await the ruling of the local DA.

During the week, we saw a wide variety of actions, from people vandalizing one of Trump’s golf courses, wheat pastes and banner drops in small towns, to large fundraising events throughout the country, a mass educational event in DC, rallies organized by the General Defense Committee (GDC) in Minneapolis and Seattle, and much more. If Prostitution is Legalized…A Personal and Political View

Everyday at lunch when it is nice out, I walk across the street to a little café and buy a bag of chips as a snack. And invariably I end up getting catcalled.

For me, the gauntlet of sexual harassment began early, as I developed beginning around 12, and until about 18 I looked much older than my years (one could say I eventually caught up). This gauntlet consisted of whistles, hoots, lewd comments, stalking as I walked home, groping, threatening comments if I didn’t respond – and many times there was some sort of combination. Fran and Monica are FREE .. Affinity and Solidarity against Victimization and Authority

On March 7th, 2017 Mónica and Francisco were finally released to Chile, where they were greeted with a great deal of media and repressive threats. Finally, they have returned to the street with their dignity intact.

Affinity and Solidarity against victimization and authority

In the struggle to break with the establishment we look for and create relationship forms that are contrary to imposition and authority. Forms that help us feel comfortable in order to develop autonomously in our proposals and acts of daily confrontation.

With this feeling we understand affinity represents the most suitable way for anarchist relations and that it’s not the fruit of empty slogans repeated until satiation, but the result of practices and shared visions that have helped generate long lasting bonds of passionate friendship and intimacy, that go beyond the simple bonds of just friends….continues below

Solidarity with Fearless Feminists in Iran .. A Short History of the Movement

It is nearly impossible to read any article about Iranian women and not spend the entire time rolling your eyes. Historically, the Western media has tended to make liberal use of Orientalist and infantilizing depictions of Iranian women as, alternatively, trapped in the harems of their turbaned overseers (a historically pre-1979 trope applied liberally to all Middle Eastern women) or militantly crazed and clad in black “traditional garb” (a post-1979 trope specific to Iranian, and later Islamist, women).

Policies that discriminate against women in Iran are one of the main factors of mobilization of the feminist movement to demand more rights. Consider this journey from the regime of the Shah until the present day…

How much power and struggle we can glimpse in these symbolic gestures. For example Niloufar, 29,on Friday night, leaving her apartment in northern Tehran wearing pirate pants and a jacket with three quarters length sleeves, ready to receive looks of disapproval and weaving complicity. Greek punk bands raise money for refugee squats

Around a dozen squats provide housing for refugees and migrants in the Exarchia neighbourhood of Athens.

Athens, Greece – On a cold night in late December at a smoky venue in the Greek capital, Anfo takes to the stage and immediately launches into a song.

A tall, thin man in a Soviet beret, guitarist Nikos stands on the edge of the stage. The vocalist, Sotiris, lowers his head and looks downward between guttural screams.

Behind them, Giorgos Chloros pounds away at the drums. Anfo, a leftist punk band, is joined by a handful of other punk outfits.

Two basque activists were arrested  in Greece for attempting to smuggle eight refugees to Euskadi

The activists and eight refugees have been detained in Greece when they tried to access a ferry bound for Italy in an action of civil disobedience to European migratory policies organized and financed by social groups.

Until now only a handful of refugees have made it to Spain due to government blocking.
