Act two
Chapter thirteen

Maxie & Macker

-‘You’re the magic boy I found on my doorstep..’-

Macker narrating

I was listening to falling water, golden and gurgling, then changing slowly into real happy baby sounds, waking me slowly from my groggy dream.
Now suddenly I was wide awake. Finding myself clean and bandaged, lying naked under a clean sheet, with an orange light glowing through it. I pulled back the sheet, blinking into the low bright sun. Was it morning or evening?
-‘Ma ma pa tu me?’- came a baby voice.
-‘Oh! Hello. I can see you.’- Continue reading “Serial of ‘The Free’. Ch 13/14. Maxie in the Ragwort Free”

Food Mythbusters: Small farms can feed the World

Food Mythbusters: Do we need industrial agriculture to feed the world?

from Grist with thanks

Are you tired of hearing claims that chemical-intensive monocultures are the only way to feed the planet’s growing population? With the first in her series of “mythbusting” videos, Anna Lappé, author of Diet for a Hot Planet and occasional Grist contributor, takes on this point directly.

She argues that, in fact, a network of small-scale, independent farms using diversified, sustainable practices and a shift in the way the food we already grow gets eaten will go a long way toward solving the problem without such a heavy reliance on corporate agriculture.

Take a look and tell us what you think.

(Did we mention that last week we had Food Day? Find food-related activities in your area here.) Continue reading “Food Mythbusters: Small farms can feed the World”

Final Update Oct 30th.  the General Strike call for tomorrow will go ahead as a ‘Day Of Struggle’ with direct actions in Catalunya, plus pickets, a partial transport strike, and a demo in the evening. This is an alternative and building resistance. It’s also been backed by the CNT anarcho syndicalist union, (which is quite small as it refuses to cooperate with the State.) Of course these anarchist unions also support the Nov 14th South Europe General Strike!

Update Oct 24th.. Finally the ‘majority’ Unions have called a General Strike for Nov 14th. But the CGT are going ahead with theirs anyway.. let’s see if it works!!

(summary translated by The Free). The big sold out Unions have so far failed to back the Anarchist call but are pressured to do so. All the Unions missed the chance to strike on Sept 26th with Euskadi and Greece and link with…
