Spain: Anti-eviction Activists resist being Criminalised

[# TomaElBancoMalo ] Before the offensive , we turn to action. Fear has changed sides

Because the Sareb is publicly owned it’s ours, and their houses too, which legitimizes our occupation protest on 21 March in the Bank at the Paseo de la Castellana .  ( ‘Sareb’ refers to a ‘bad bank’ set up specially to receive and sell off seized homes, properties and toxic debts

We will not allow ourselves to be criminalized for fighting for families who are homeless when it’s YOU WHO ARE TO BLAME, for people who are depressed WHEN YOU ARE TO BLAME , for lives shattered WHEN YOU ARE TO BLAME.

Because yes, you are to blame , and we are in the right and we are showing that YES WE CAN WIN at points all over the Spanish State .

A clear example is the campaign called ” PAH Social Work ,” (organising occupations of seized ‘bank property’ for homeless) which was created to enforce the right to adequate housing enshrined in Article 47 of the Constitution, Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as well as Article 11 of the ICESCR (International Covenant on Economic Social and Cultural Rights ) and systematically violated by the Spanish State .

The objective is triple

Recovering the social function of an empty house to ensure that families are not left on the street.
Exacerbating pressure on financial institutions to accept payment in kind .
Forcing government to adopt once and for all necessary measures to guarantee the right to housing.

And, that’s what we are doing. On March 22 , members of the PAH Girona occupied a block of flats in Salt . Currently there are living 13 families , 21 children and 22 adults . October 16 it is scheduled for eviction , and they are not not thinking to move from their homes. We will all be there  , supporting them , and stopping the eviction, because we are determined to keep fighting for what we believe. IF THE FAILED BANK IS NOW PUBLICLY OWNED , THEIR HOMES ARE OURS AS WELL.

Here you can see pictures of the occupation, and the blog of the PAH Girona to get an idea of the process.http://multimedia.diaridegirona.cat/fotos/girona .

It’s HAPPENING , Even judges begin to open their eyes : A judge has refused to vacate the occupied block Sareb in Sabadellhttp://www.20minutos.essareb/sabadell/

On Tuesday , we’ll win another battle , AGAINST OUR PROSECUTION FOR THE SIT-IN OF 21ST MARCH…   LET’S BEAT THE BANKS
