Medieval Spanish ghost town becomes self-sufficient ecovillage

I

It’s a utopian fantasy discover a ghost town and rebuild it in line with your ideals-, but in Spain where there are nearly 3000 abandoned villages (most dating back to the Middle Ages), some big dreamers have spent the past 3 decades doing just that.

There are now a few dozen “ecoaldeas” – ecovillages – in Spain, most build from the ashes of former Medieval towns. One of the first towns to be rediscovered was a tiny hamlet in the mountains of northern Navarra.

Lakabe was rediscovered in 1980 by a group of people living nearby who had lost their goats and “when they found their goats, they found Lakabe”, explains Mauge Cañada, one of the early pioneers in the repopulation of the town.

The new inhabitants were all urbanites with no knowledge of country life so no one expected them to…

Living Without Money- The Markets Where Everything Is Free.. post 1:

by Julie Liardet..    GENEVA – People strolling, music, smiles, bursts of laughter. Customers walk between clothes and trinkets, homegrown zucchini and children’s games, spread on tables or on the ground. A neighbor has brought his electric razor; another has just found a book by French sociologist Marcel Mauss.

gratiferia6

This kind of flea-market-with-veggies could be coming to your neighborhood soon. With a twist: here everything is 100% free.

gratis momey free

The gratiferia (free fair) concept originally comes from Argentina and then expanded to neighboring countries and all of Latin America. The idea was quickly taken up in the U.S. and Canada, and this year, it has arrived in the Old World. Sales and swaps are completely forbidden at gratiferias. Everything must be in good condition, and of course, a bit of civic sense is required. Do not show up with a van and load up everything in sight. This free fair aims at “liberation from materialism,” with the goal of leaving behind “the oppression of the economic system.”

Ariel Rodriguez Bosio, the brains behind the gratiferia, has posted a YouTube video entitled “gratiferia, una economia de la nueva era” (“gratiferia, an economy for the new age”). In the video, where he appears as a sort of philosophical/spiritual guru of the no-growth movement, the Argentinian explains that he started the first market of its kind in his apartment at the beginning of 2010.

Eco groups denounce the indiscriminate application of herbicides on Spanish roadsmonsanto-death-logo

Monsanto has been forced to abandon it’s ‘bully and bribe’ campaign to implant GM Crops in Europe, at least for now, but In Spain it has already succeeded in introducing GM Maize with Glyphosate (Roundup) production, and now local councils have been persuaded to spray roads, paths, railways and waterways with deadly Glyphosate to ‘‘eliminate excess vegetation” and ‘‘reduce fire risk”.. Ecologists In Action reports  from Guadalajara. Continue reading “Monsanto Cancer Chemicals sprayed by Spanish Roads”

Genocidal Glyphosate poisoning in Argentine Soybeans

monsanto in Argentina

Argentina has recently become a giant experiment in farming genetically modified (GM) Roundup Ready (RR) soy, soy that has been genetically modified to be tolerant to Roundup, Monsanto’s formulation of the herbicide glyphosate. The Argentine government has been so eager to pull the country out of a deep economic recession that occurred in the 1990’s, that it restructured its economy around GM soy grown for export, most of which goes to Europe to feed livestock.
