Early in the morning of October 31st, anti/riot police forces stormed the Prosfygika jointly with a large group of Nazis. Later on, comrades managed to repel the cops (in uniform and plainclothes), and heavy clashes ensued.
Several persons were detained throughout the day (at least two of the arrestees, who face charges, have been badly beaten).
Various collectives and individuals in solidarity with the Prosfygika held a morning gathering on November 1st in defense of the neighborhood.
..”In the Av. Alexandra occupations there are currently residing more than five hundred people: Refugees, immigrants, families with children, the elderly, patients, former homeless people, political activists, drug addicts in rehabilitation process at the hospital in HOPE, people of any nationality or religion.
It is a multi-ethnic mosaic of communities of some of the most persecuted peoples of the world. People who have experienced the capitalist war, refugees and torture. Poverty and misery, persecution and hunger.
Our story about the neighborhood of the refugee, talks about the struggle for survival and dignity, solidarity and companionship, for self-organization, equality and social struggle for interracial and interreligious coexistence in times of poverty and cannibalism.
A social and cultural workshop, a self run institution and community continues for those who built it, immigrants, refugees and victims of capitalist barbarity.
He talks about the smiles of dozens of children playing in the streets of the neighborhood, collective kitchens, self-organized production structures and self-education, social and political action, care for patients and the weak, and maintenance, with limited means, a place that encapsulates working class struggles and memories of the last eighty years….”.. translated roughly from Prosfygik a website
On Monday October 31st 2016, a group of comrades from the self-organised refugees squat ,Themistokleous St. 58 in Exarchia were also present at the Squatted Prosfygika to assist the neighborhood’s defense in the face of coordinated attacks by cops and Nazis.
We took a stand in the ongoing social war with stones, body-to-body skirmishes and our anti/patriotic convictions resounding during clashes with the cops.
Solidarity with the Squatted Prosfygika.
Strength to everyone who clashed with the uniformed scum of Greek democracy.
Immediate release of all captives.
