Throughout my adult life I have tended to describe the thing to which I am primarily opposed as “capitalism”.Over the last couple of years, however, I have started to wonder whether this is quite the right word.
Not only does it hinder communication with people used to different political terminologies, but it is looking increasingly outmoded as the powers-that-be try to push us into a harsh new totalitarian era.
I have gradually stopped using the term and, when I share pieces of my older writing which contain the word, I feel slightly awkward and don’t quite know how to reply to people who feel it is not altogether appropriate.
The funny thing, though, is that my views have not actually changed. The entity which I have spent my life combatting remains the same, regardless of the label I might stick on it.
It is not really an “-ism”, an abstract ideological concept which mysteriously casts our societies under its motivational spell, but a real and physical system, built on capital, which is maintained by real and physical players.
Capitalism is…..
It is an arrangement by which a tiny minority of extremely wealthy people possess all the power and privilege in the world at the expense of the vast majority of us, whom they regard as both dangerous and dispensible.
It is accumulation for the few, dispossession for the many.
It is a plutocracy, a dictatorship of the ultra-rich hiding behind the rhetoric of democracy while knowing that real democracy would be incompatible with its ongoing supremacy and thus doing all it can to prevent it from ever flourishing.

Report on ongoing rebellion in Haiti as fuel costs continue to rise and the city of Port-au-Prince is barricaded amidst growing class conflict

The Haitian government announced last week that it will be doubling the already absurdly high fuel prices in the country. The fuel prices are but one of many reasons behind their rebellion.
However, this latest offense has kicked off an accelerated round of rebel action. Youth have taken to the streets and have barricaded Port-au-Prince.
Multiple banks have been burned, while the homes of politicians and their bourgeois supporters have been attacked.
On September 15th, Haitian rebels in Port-au-Prince stormed the offices of State media and set fire to three vehicles.
They also expropriated food and other supplies from two warehouses in Les Gonaïves: one belonging to Caritas, a Catholic NGO; and the other belonging to the World Food Program.

Let’s take a step back a moment and think about this.
Let’s forget the fact that the U.S. and NATO helped create the war in Ukraine by breaking their promise to Russia not to expand NATO.
Let’s forget that the U.S. perpetrated the 2014 coup in Ukraine.
Let’s forget the fact that many top US officials, including former CIA head Leon Panetta, have admitted that this is a proxy war between the U.S., NATO, and Russia.
Let’s forget the fact that Biden and Congress have sent tens of billions of dollars of weapons and aid to an army that is at least partially Nazis who don’t do a very good job of hiding that they’re Nazis.
And let’s forget the fact that even U.S. propaganda mouthpieces CBS and CNN have admitted that only about 30% of the billions of dollars of weapons have made it to the frontlines in Ukraine. The rest has been stolen and sold on the black market to terrorists and people who like using grenade launchers as coasters. Monetary aid to Ukraine is now around $50B.

This week, we share a recorded discussion hosted by the Civil Liberties Defense Center. CLDC has been at the forefront of anti-repression legal work for decades now, working on many of the Green Scare cases, in which the FBI infamously hounded and smashed radical environmental organizing between 2000 and 2008.
In this discussion, Chava and Lauren speak with Letha, a long-time supporter for Marius Mason, who is the last remaining Green Scare prisoner.
Marius is a former Bloomington resident whose public organizing and clandestine acts of sabotage in the 1990s presaged many of the ecological concerns which have now become global issues as we face climate catastrophe.
Marius was harshly sentenced – to almost 23 years in prison – for acts of sabotage against logging, highway construction, water privatization schemes, and corporate genetic engineering.
He came out as a trans man while inside and is being held at the federal prison in Connecticut.
