Data out of South Africa continues to dispel doomsday fearmongering.

COVID-19 hospitalizations in South Africa, the epicenter of the Omicron outbreak, have dropped by 25% over the last week, once again indicating that the variant is milder than previous strains.

According to data from the country’s National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), the number of people in hospitals suffering from the virus has sunk to 5,600.

“The figures bolster recent reports indicating that the new highly mutated variant may not be as severe as other forms of Covid-19 like the beta or delta variants,” reports the Telegraph.

The seven-day rolling average for new infections in Gauteng province also fell by more than 10,000 to less than 8,000.

Professor Tom Moultrie, a top demographer at the University of Cape Town, reacted to the news by remarking, “It really does seem as if…my country will…

”Having participated in 19 and 20 was like a dream of every revolutionary

militant, which is to bring down a government, we were part of that as the ‘New MAS’, it came from several years of resistance and direct actions such as looting, where people were organized to solve their immediate problems.

This served to reaffirm our conviction that independent mass action can change any adverse situation, what we propose is to deepen that and end the origin of all evils, which is capitalism”.

We are in a month in which many and many of us are filled with passions, hopes and memories. This December 2021 in particular indicates that it is 20 years since the “Argentinazo”.

Recent memory evokes those historical days of the 19 and 20 in which the entire town coined and put into practice the slogan “everyone go”. Marcelo “Chino” Heberling is a historical leader of the New MAS and was part of those two days in the streets, generously speaks with us below to analyze those events two decades later.

A native of the city of Avellaneda, where he was born and still lives with his partner and his two children, in addition to being a political leader, he was a worker and union activist in the Gral. Roca Railroad.

Twenty years ago, an area of ice thought to weigh almost 500bn tonnes dramatically broke off the Antarctic continent and shattered into thousands of icebergs into the Weddell Sea.

The 1,255-sq-mile (3,250-sq-km) Larsen B ice shelf was known to be melting fast but no one had predicted that it would take just one month for the 200-metre-thick behemoth to completely disintegrate.

Glaciologists were shocked as much by the speed as by the scale of the collapse. “This is staggering. It’s just broken apart. It fell over like a wall and has broken as if into hundreds of thousands of…
