Secwepemc Warriors build Tiny Houses on Pipeline Route

Tiny Houses Being Built to Block Pipeline in Unceded Secwepemc Territory

from Living Big In a Tiny HouseTen tiny houses are currently being built by the Secwepemc Nation in order to block the proposed expansion of Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain Pipeline in what some are calling the next ‘Standing Rock’.

These ten tiny homes will be strategically placed along the path of the pipeline in order to occupy the land and halt progression. Lead by Kanahus Manuel and other activists from the Secwepemc tribes, volunteer builders from all over North America have began showing up to help with the construction of the tiny homes, which are being constructed on wheels so they can easily be moved along the proposed pipeline route according to where they are needed.

Together, they are calling themselves the ‘Tiny House Warriors’. Continue reading “Secwepemc Warriors build Tiny Houses on Pipeline Route”

Harvey Partly Due To Climate Change.. Partly caused by Texas Capitalists

warming

For every extra degree Celsius in warming, the atmosphere can hold 7% more water. This tends to make rainfall events even more extreme when they occur. Another element that we can mention with some confidence is the temperature of the seas. “The waters of the Gulf of Mexico are about 1.5 degrees warmer above what they were from 1980-2010,” Sir Brian Hoskins from the Grantham Institute for Climate Change told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.

Climate change fueling extreme weather

It’s a fact: climate change made Hurricane Harvey more deadly | Michael E Mann

“That is very significant because it means the potential for a stronger storm is there, and the contribution of global warming to the warmer waters in the Gulf, it’s almost inevitable that there was a contribution to that.” Researchers are also quite confident in linking the intensity of the rainfall that is still falling in the Houston area to climate change. “This is the type of event, in terms of the extreme rainfall, that we would expect to see more of in a warming climate,” Dr Friederike Otto from the University of Oxford told BBC News.

Nature’s ironic ‘revenge’: Harvey hits the heart of the Fossil Fuel empire.. but also strikes the Poor and uninsured…

Ecocidal Houston Oil Mafia Reap Whirlwind of  Climate Change’s Hurricane Harvey…..   Exxon Knew for decades and Profited while paying none of the costs
Exxon may lose billions.. Serves Them Right!.. you say. Only that the criminal billionaires scooping the loot from the great fossil fools nightmare will still have their mansions, private islands, yachts and offshore fortunes safely  stashed away.

Image result for PHOTOS Hurricane HARVEY floods

It’s the ordinary six and a half million of us in Houston, only one on six of whom have flood insurance, who will have their lives ruined.

The great irony is that fracking for gas and tight oil is both the greatest promotion of EXXON TEXAS and probably the greatest new addition to runaway climate chaos, though that can’t be proved since Trump abolished methane measurement.

But does the Texas fossil fuel industry cause Climate Chaos? Of course it does, though you can’t prove a specific case  ”Harvey benefited from unusually toasty waters in the Gulf of Mexico. As the storm roared toward Houston last week, sea-surface waters near Texas rose to between 2.7 and 7.2 degrees Fahrenheit above average. These waters were some of the hottest spots of ocean surface in the world. The tropical storm, feeding off this unusual warmth, was able to progress from a tropical depression to a category-four hurricane in roughly 48 hours”.  see footnote 1

Climate change made every stage of Hurricane Harvey more horrific .

Okay so the sea is much too hot, but there’s evidence Harvey’s weird stalling out on the coast may also be connected to climate change.  Because of man made devastation and galloping desertification inland south Texas produces a semi permanent anticyclone which blocks entering storms. see footnote 2 Continue reading “Harvey Partly Due To Climate Change.. Brazil Victory: Key Supreme Court rulings in Favor of Indigenous Land Rights

 text in part from http://www.survivalinternational.org

All is NOT LOST.  Aug 16th 2017

Brazilian Indigenous Nations celebrate Supreme Court decision AGAINST a legal precedent from the far right usurpers in power which would have decimated their heritage.

The ‘Marco Temporal’ refers to an arbitrary cutoff date, Oct 5th  in 1988. Under the proposed new legal policy if the lands were not occupied by the indigenous people on that date their right to the lands would be abolished. Hence the campaign ‘Our History Didn’t Begin in 1988’.

Indigenous activists and human rights campaigners around the world yesterday celebrated Brazil’s Supreme Court ruling unanimously in favor of indigenous land rights.

Thousands of Indigenous peoples marched to Congress in the capital of  Brazil in April 2015 to protest the destruction of their land and human rights by the far right usurper government headed by Temer. they were received with tear gas and bombs by shock troops

Brazilian Indians have been protesting in Brasilia against the government’s anti-indigenous proposals.
Indigenous people occupied highways, to protest and later (above) to celebrate the Court victory

In two land rights cases, all eight of the judges present voted for indigenous land rights and against the government of Mato Grosso state, in the Amazon, which was demanding compensation for lands mapped out as indigenous territories decades ago. ZAD, Bure, Hambach Forest: Networks of Resistance Part 1

Greece: Networks of Resistance Conference Part 1 – ZAD, Bure, Hambach Forest

Athens, Greece   from unicorn riot, with thanks.         – In the summer of 2017, folks in Athens organized the Networks of Resistance: 1st European Local Struggles Conference to “create an open source platform” to expand upon and share the experiences, knowledge, and ideas that have arisen from organically created resistance encampments currently building new alternatives outside of capitalism and nation-states.

The two-day conference was held in the self-organized Embros Theater, which is a squatted ex-factory in the Psiri District of Athens.

Navigating through the dynamics of building strong grassroots movements that impact radical change is a arduous task. The resistance to the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) in the United States was monumental, but it didn’t stop the project nor the flow of oil. In Europe, resistance to development and fossil fuel extraction projects continues to grow in waves, similar to the USA, and like the resistance camps around Standing Rock, autonomous experiments of building an alternative society outside of capitalism and void of consumerism and hierarchy have existed for years now. The Feminist Army Spreading Women’s revolution.. Leading the Fight against ISIS

Kurdish women hold a photo of Arin Mirkan, killed in fight against IS

Dilar Dirik salutes militant women-organised democracy in action in Rojava

It was in the autumn of 2014, only months after so-called Islamic State (ISIS) achieved massive territorial gains inside Syria and Iraq, committing genocidal and femicidal massacres as it did so, that a revolutionary silver lining arose from the little-known town of Kobane.

Having overrun Mosul, Tel Afar and Sinjar in Iraq, as well as a vast expanse of territory inside Syria, ISIS prepared to launch an attack on the north of Syria, known by Kurds as Rojava.

What it did not anticipate in Kobane was to encounter an enemy of a different kind – an organised, political community that was ready to defend itself courageously by all means necessary, and with a worldview that turns ISIS’s death ideology on its head.

Arîn Mîrkan, a young, revolutionary Kurdish woman, would become the symbol of Kobane’s victory.

Emergency: Bolivia permits Highway through TIPNIS, the Most Beautiful Jungle

Emergency in TIPNIS (Territorio Indígena y Parque Nacional Isiboro Sécure)

from Contra Info   first part translated by Earth First! Journal

TIPNIS [Territorio Indígena y Parque Nacional Isiboro Secure] is a territory where the Pacha (Earth) is being devastated by people who see it as a space to plunder for their own enrichment;

It is not only the fauna that they attempt to destroy (thousands of species of animals and communities that have been thrived before the advance of Capital and ‘civilization’.

TIPNIS is located between the north of Cochabamba Dept. and the south of Beni. From the year 2000 to 2012, there were nine protest marches through the territory, demanding that those in Power respect their self-determination and not interfere in their behavior with the natural environment. This place has a lot of diversity as far as nature is concerned, and therefore is attractive to exploiters.

While Morales was enacting the new law, in the streets of Trinidad indigenous of the TIPNIS, environmental activists and settlers marched against Law 266 because they consider that the highway will only allow the expansion of the coca crops. According to the latest report of the  Oficina de las Naciones Unidas Contra la Droga y el Delito (UNODC),United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), these illegal sowings grew by 150 per cent from 2015 to 2016.

In October 2011, with the arrival of thousands of TIPNIS defenders, a law was approved which grants intangibility to the protected area. However, those in Power approved this past Tuesday [August] 8 a law that removes the intangibility of TIPNIS.

This was based on a false consultation, in which native communities resisted participation and those who did vote were the colonizers, bribed people and senior leaders who were later expelled by the real TIPNIS communities.
