#Greece: Fighting for Revolution as Capitalism Falls

occupy resist produce Greece: Fighting for Revolution

Greece stands at a crossroads. Either austerity or social revolution. The latter has been happening anyway with the parallel economy booming. The state is resisting, but so are the people.
The video below is a compilation from a number of sources and includes footage of confrontation over 2011-12. It has been a busy two years. 2013 will not be an exception. As with many other parts of the world – Chiapas, Catalonia, and the pockets of resistance everywhere – we may be witnessing the death throes of capitalism.
If Greece was Syria, the US would be in there arming the rebellion. Instead it’s up to us to provide support – as with the International Revolutionary Solidarity Movement or the International Brigade – or by creating our own version, where possible, of the parallel economy where we live.

Integral CoOps,15M and Occupy.. an embryo for Post Capitalism?

en español aquí: La Cooperativa Integral y el Caído del Capitalismo

In southern Europe it looks like Capitalism is collapsing. . Everywhere businesses are closing down and stolen money moved to tax havens. We have an opportunity right now to start new systems, truly sustainable and without hierarchy, without interest, without rich or poor ..  on the way to a money-free world! Below we report on the  Integral CoOps, which use new technology to link consumption, production, Community Currencies and Time Banks.

NO to  Reaction  YES to revolution ..

All the old activists covered their eyes in despair, when tens of thousands of youths from the 15M movement raised their hands in the air and yelled for nonviolence, while being brutally beaten up by the police mercenaries last year. What a shocking lack of solidarity and militancy!

Yet it is also true that direct confrontation with State forces makes us into a mirror image of them. All the dialectical struggle of macho Marxists only led its leaders to the corruption of power, in the totalitarianism  of  State Communism, or nowadays in leftist parties and sold out unions .

The 15M Movement and Occupy on the other hand are based on the assembly, self organized horizontally, without leaders or parties, without hierarchy, and without accepted sexism,  like an internet chat, or in the tradition of the Iberian Anarchists. Buy NOTHING .. Collapse Capitalism and Save the Planet!

This year, Adbusters, the folks behind BND, are upping the ante by promoting Buy Nothing Christmas, a challenge to not just skip a day of consumerism but opt out of the entire holiday shopping season

Buy Nothing Day 2012 is/was Sat 24/Nov. Could You Stop Spending for One Day?

Mark Boyle |Tuesday, 20th November 2012

Mark Boyle, author of The Moneyless Manifesto challenges you to take part in ‘Buy Nothing Month’ in 2013

It’s a classic scene from The Simpsons. A flock of marketing executives sit around a large table in a boardroom; sales, they’re told, are down in the third fiscal quarter, and they’re the people whose raison d’être is to make the graphs head northeasterly again. They break out into discussion, before a cigar-smoking man, with deep furrows of concern in his brow, intervenes.

He decides that they need to create a new day, and that it needs to be something “warm and fuzzy”. Cut to a new scene, where Homer is unwrapping his “Love Day” present, a talking toy bear called Sir Loves-a-Lot, whilst his daughter Lisa fills the rubbish bin full of Love Day wrapping paper. Barcelona: proletarian shopping spree

A group of ‘outraged’ expropriates food at a supermarket in Barcelona to distribute to needy
They fill a basket with food staples to give to the needy, as explained.

A group of about twenty ‘outraged’ has assaulted this morning a Mercadona supermarket in Cubelles (Barcelona) to take food and basic necessities, they said, pass out to people in need in the population.
As reported by one of the responsible for the supermarket, about twenty people have gone about 10.45 am to the hypermarket, next to the thermal Cubelles, a town south of Barcelona, and have filled a cart for various products.

Runnymede Eco Village.. Occupy in Common

Runnymede Eco-Village

Runnymede Eco-Village is situated in the disused woodland of the ex-Brunel university Runnymede Campus owned by the private property developer: Orchid Runnymede.

We: a group of 15 people, have been living on the Runnymede Campus since June 15th.  The 65 acre campus lies in the Green Belt (although it is designated as a major development site) but since 2007 has lain largely unused.

Orchid Runnymede has been granted planning permission to build ‘luxury homes’, elderly care units and student accommodation on the site.  This plan has attracted concern and criticism from local residents (see this local news article from last year) Continue reading “Runnymede Eco Village.. Popular Library evicted at midnight, continues in street.

They Came in the Night… To Evict the Books.

Oakland Police evicted the first Occupants in many years of the abandoned building at 1449 Miller Street late on August 13th. That was the same day the abandoned building had been proclaimed a people’s library and public space, a Biblioteca Popular for a neighborhood in East Oakland sorely in need.

First they came for the anarchist books,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t an anarchist.

Then they came for the trade union books,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a trade unionist. Continue reading “Popular Library evicted at midnight, continues in street.”

Capitalist collapse: Shops looted for food kitchens

UPDATE..10/08– Five members of the SAT Union have now been arrested for the supermarket robberies. ”Not content with wholesale corruption (hundreds have been charged with robbing public funds) , destroying services and abolishing social security payments for longer term unemployed, the rightwing PP politicians have ordered the jailing of those who try to mitigate the social emergency..”

LEADERS of a workers’ union in southern Spain staged a massive raid on two supermarkets on Tuesday, filling at least 30 trolleys with staple foodstuffs to give to the poor.
They gave their entire haul to local ‘food banks’ which supply hampers to families who no longer have any income to be able to feed themselves. The Sindicato Andaluz de Trabajadores (SAT), or workers’ union of the Andalucía region, staged an uninvited supermarket sweep on Mercadona in Écija (Sevilla) and Carrefour in Arcos de la Frontera (Cádiz). Mayor of Marinaleda (Sevilla), Juan Manuel Sánchez Gordillo, is thought to have been involved in the Mercadona raid.
The regional minister for the interior has given the green light for all parties involved who are found to be arrested and tried.
