CNTE: THE STRIKE ISN’T OVER and THERE WILL NOT BE A RETURN TO CLASSES, PROTESTS CONTINUE

CNTE protest with parents and social organizations in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas. CNTE protest with parents and social organizations in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas.

Teachers of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) agreed this Friday night to continue with the teachers’ movement and not return to classes on Monday, September 12, because there are no guaranties that the 11 agreements the federal government offered will be respected.

After holding a State Assembly all afternoon in which representatives of the 800 union delegations in the 24 regions of the state of Chiapas participated, teachers of Section 7 of the SNTE agreed not to end the strike and that the protests will continue this Saturday with a large march and occupation of government offices in Tuxtla.

They pointed out in their resolution that the consultation process with rank and file teachers continues, but that the results that emanate…

Support Rojava: Open Letter Signed by all below

”We, intellectuals, writers, artists, politicians and human rights defenders, seek to draw urgent attention to the Turkish state’s invasion in Northern Syria and Rojava.

The Turkish army invaded the Northern Syrian City of Jarablus on 24 August 2016, using anti-ISIS  operations as a pretext. The operation was in collaboration with the Syrian arm of El-Qaida (Jabhat Fatah al-Sham) and groups like Ahrar El-Sham.

ISIS handed over the city, Jarablus, without a single bullet being fired. This is a clear indication that there was a prior agreement between the parties that Jarablus would remain as a base for Salafi
groups. Therefore, Jarablus will remain as a corridor for foreign fighters to cross into Syria to receive training and then to cross back over in order to be distributed throughout Europe and the rest of the world.

From the third day of the operation (26 August 2016) onwards the attacks have been directed at Kurdish Forces, the Jarablus Military Council and the Minbij Military Council. Northern Syria has
been largely cleansed of ISIS by these forces with the support of the international coalition lead by theUS. By attacking these forces, Turkey is both interrupting the fight against ISIS and strengthening ISIS.

Tayip Erdogan and other Turkish authorities officially announced the purpose of the operation, at the outset, as the targeting of Kurdish forces alongside ISIS. Turkish army has engaged in airstrikes and shelling of civilian areas, killing at least 45 in two villages south of Jarablus.

Today, after years of requesting the care she needs for gender dysphoria, Chelsea Manning has released a statement about the start of her hunger strike. Chelsea is demanding written assurances from the Army she will receive all of the medically prescribed recommendations for her gender dysphoria and that the “high tech bullying” will stop. “High tech bullying,” is what Chelsea describes as “the constant, deliberate and overzealous administrative scrutiny by prison and military officials.”

Following her sentencing, Chelsea has respectfully requested that the US Government give her treatment for her gender dysphoria. Over a year later, Chelsea filed a lawsuit in September of 2014, where she sued the government to get a battery of treatments. As a result, she began hormone therapy in February of 2015.

However, the military has been making her cut her hair to the male length and grooming standards. As part of her treatment, her doctors…

Non-News: Media Silence as Erdogan sacks 11,285 Kurdish teachers and Curfews Kurdish Capital

Imagine the scandal if the USA were to fire 11,285 black teachers on suspicion of supporting ‘Black Lives Matter’. Would that be news?erdogan-sacks-and-curfews-kurdsThe all powerful Turkish leader Erdogan just dismissed 11,285 Kurdish teachers for maybe not supporting a military crackdown, mass state murders and prohibition of their own language. But you won’t read this in the NY Times, or see it on the BBC or CNN.

Imagine the British Tories sacking 11,285 muslim teachers on suspicion of supporting Islam. Would that be news?

Yesterday some of the fired Kurdish teachers from the KESK union came out to protest in Diyarbakir (Amed in Turkish), but were attacked, arrested or beaten by police. ( see photos). But you won’t read about that anywhere but in tiny blogs like this or the banned Kurdish media.

Imagine if the Russians or Chinese or Mexicans were to fire 11,285 indigenous teachers for ‘membership of a subversive Trade Union’. Would that be news?

The transparent pretext for sacking some of the Kurdish teachers was that many belonged to a left wing teachers union, the KESK. But you won’t see any western trade unions or teachers coming out in sympathy with their Kurdish colleagues.

Military Curfew imposed on Kurdish capital

Imagine if the state were to impose an indefinite curfew on 13 suburbs of Amsterdam or Dublin starting at 5am. Would that be news?

Duke the Dog Re-Elected Mayor For A 3rd Term, Proving Politicians Useless

 duke-the-mayorBy Carey Wedler

As millions of Americans struggle to decide whether to elect a volatile narcissist or a warmongering criminal as their next leader, one Minnesota town is doing politics right — they just re-elected a dog to his third term as mayor.

Duke, a nine-year-old Great Pyrenees, was first elected mayor of Cormorant, Minnesota in 2014. The first time he won, it was by accident. The small town of just over 1,000 people held an election in which residents could pay $1 to vote. Duke won the race with twelve write-in votes and was treated to an official inauguration.

The town’s voters were evidently happy with the 2014 fluke. Duke has been re-elected twice, most recently at the end of August.
