The National Court has ordered the release without bail bond for three of the five people who were until now in custody, detained under the ‘Operation Piñata’, anti anarchist raids, on 31 March.
As explained Daniel Amelang to the paper Diagonal, one of the lawyers representing the defendants in Operation Piñata, they are now waiting for the Court to rule on the freedom of the other two people who are still in custody.

Yesterday the Daily Mail published an article about Brits on holiday on the Greek island of Kos, who bemoaned the number of poor and refugees there and how they are annoyed to witness such dire poverty after forking out money to pay for their annual holiday. Two versions by Daily Mail staff of the offending article can be found below (the first was considered too provocative). The article contrasts sharply with the generosity of the Greek people who, despite their country facing bankruptcy and coping with 40% unemployment and unheard of austerity measures, have shown the world their kind-heartedness in how they have helped feed and clothe and care for the refugees arriving on their shores. Feminism is under fierce attack on the internet. When looking for illustrations for this post I found many anti feminist sites. In the images I saw stacks of doctored photos denigrating feminism by mockery, divide-and-rule, inventions, junk science, misandry, rape celebration, patronizing, etc.
Mostly it seemed to me like pathetic bleating by Nth American men about losing any of their socially permitted patriarchal privileges,… But switch language on Google and you get similar results in different contexts..
Seems like we’re living through giant social battles that are going on around the world, in which millions of women feel empowered by a perceived freedom and individuality on social media, threatening to undermine long established systems of cultural semi slavery, and provoking ‘testerical’ reactions from religious and authority figures.
There is a clear case to be made for the connection between ecology and anarchism.1 Many philosophers, academics, and radicals have elaborated this over the past two centuries2. The state alleges that Eric was responsible for an attempted firebombing on a Kansas government building. If convicted he faces anywhere from 5 to 30 years in Federal prison. His trial is set for Monday, July 13th at 9am.
La construcción durará 5 años, en los que se desembolsarán al menos 50.000 millones de dólares y se crearán alrededor de 50.000 empleos durante la obra (muchos de ellos serán ocupados por empleados de la constructora china). El canal proyectado es tres veces más largo que el de Panamá. Mediría unos 250 km de largo, mientras que el existente tiene apenas 77 km.
Aunque se trata de una idea que lleva dando vueltas casi un siglo en el imaginario nicaragüense (en 1833 se proyectó la creación de un canal similar en sociedad con Holanda), el proyecto tuvo un tratamiento exprés en el Congreso.
La “Ley Especial para el Desarrollo de Infraestructura y Transporte Nicaragüense atinente a El Canal, Zona de Libre Comercio e Infraestructuras Asociadas” que avala la construcción fue aprobada después de tres horas de debate, gracias a las mayorías oficialistas en la Asamblea.

La selección del concesionario no fue menos polémica. El trato con el millonario de las telecomunicaciones Wang Jing se hizo mediante un proceso poco transparente. Aún no se sabe cómo ganó el concurso, e incluso hay dudas sobre si este empresario tiene la capacidad para completar el proyecto.
La empresa HKND obtuvo una concesión de 50 años de explotación del canal, que puede extenderse por otros 50 años. A partir del acuerdo, Wang está exento de impuestos locales y regulaciones comerciales.
Más allá del debate sobre quién o cómo haría el canal, es necesario plantearse una cuestión de fondo: ¿Es necesario otro canal interoceánico? Por ahora el monopolio es de Panamá, cuyo canal fue creado en 1914 y este año será reformado por un valor de 5.200 millones de dólares, decisión que fue tomada a través de un referéndum nacional.

El Washington Post asegura que aún si el proyecto de Nicaragua se las ingeniara para capturar todo el tráfico de Panamá, le tomaría unos 30 años a Wang recuperar su inversión.
Mientras tanto, los grupos ecologistas están preocupados por el hecho de que no se haya hecho un estudio serio del impacto ambiental que el proyecto que se hará en la zona. El lago Nicaragua, atravesado por el canal proyectado, es la reserva de agua dulce más grande de la región.
Los funcionarios encargados de los estudios ambientales reconocieron que no podrán completar su informe sobre el impacto ambiental hasta abril de este año.
Durante la última cumbre de la CELAC, un grupo de nicaragüenses de casi 40 organizaciones civiles se trasladaron a San José (Costa Rica) para hacer llegar su reclamo y obtener apoyos regionales contra la construcción del canal interoceánico.
Pero no sólo los lagos y ecosistemas se verán afectados. Cientos de personas podrían perder sus viviendas, porque viven justo sobre el trazado de la vía marítima.
Un ejemplo es el poblado de Río Grande, una comunidad evangélica de 2000 personas con una ruta de tierra en medio de campos de maíz, porotos, plátanos y sorgo. Todo en un radio de 10 kilómetros alrededor del pueblo quedaría sujeto a expropiación.
Las expresiones de rechazo se repiten. Además de la manifestación en la CELAC, el 10 de diciembre más de 5.000 personas salieron a las calles de Managua para reclamar contra el proyecto. En Obrajuelo, un pueblo de pescadores, que apedrearon un vehículo en que iba un grupo de técnicos chinos enviados a hacer un estudio del terreno.
Sin una oposición fuerte y con el control de las señales oficiales (la esposa del presidente Ortega es la jefa de Comunicaciones), el disenso se hace difícil.
El escándalo está a la vista. ¿Podrán los nicaragüenses hacer algo al respecto?
Cuando la primavera de 2015 ceda el testigo al verano, serán los días clave para el proyecto del Canal Interoceánico de Nicaragua.

Se espera que para dentro de tres semanas la concesionaria china HKND Group presente los Estudios de Impacto Ambiental y Social (EIAS) de la megaobra.
El representante principal de Environmental Resources Management (ERM), David Blaha, ha adelantado que a más tardar a finales de mayo estaría listo el informe completo de impacto ambiental del Gran Canal, aunque al mismo tiempo advirtió que está “sujeto a cambios”.
