In a powerful display of solidarity, tens of thousands of protesters filled the streets of Washington D.C., US and Toronto, Canada to stand in solidarity with the people of Gaza and Lebanon, two days before the one-year mark of “Israel’s” genocidal war on Gaza.

Chanting phrases like “End the occupation now…We want justice, you say how,” one protester expressed her grief “over the loss of over 100,000 martyrs.” Demonstrators also demanded that an arms embargo be placed on “Israel” for its genocide in Gaza.

Protesters also condemned the intensifying Israeli aggression on Lebanon, which has displaced tens of thousands of Lebanese from South Lebanon as Israeli occupation forces attempt to execute a ground invasion of southern Lebanon; all of which have been foiled by the Lebanese Resistance.

Pro-Palestine rallies held globally to mark a year of Israel’s war on Gaza

Tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets in major cities around the world to condemn the Israeli military operations in Gaza as the war in the Palestinian territory nears the one-year mark.

In the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, more than 1,000 pro-Palestinian protesters gathered outside the embassy of the United States, demanding that Washington, Israel’s top military supplier and ally, stop sending weapons to Israel.

“We are appealing to the hearts of all the leaders of the world to rise up and move and liberate them [Palestinians] from the oppression carried out by Israel,” a demonstrator told Al Jazeera.

“This is no longer a religious issue but truly a humanitarian issue – not just for Muslims but all who claim to be Muslim,” said another protester, holding his child on his shoulders and carrying a Palestinian flag.

In the Philippines, dozens of left-wing activists protested near the US embassy in Manila, where police prevented them from getting closer to the seaside compound.

In Cape Town in South Africa, hundreds walked to parliament, chanting: “Israel is a racist state!” and “We are all Palestinian!” Pro-Gaza marches were also planned Saturday in Johannesburg and Durban.

In Caracas, hundreds of pro-Palestinian demonstrators protested outside the United Nations’s headquarters for Venezuela, carrying a giant Palestinian flag. They delivered a petition to the UN calling for an end to the “genocide” of the Palestinians.

Human rights-based framework for coral reef conservation. The five key principles are legality, accountability, non-discrimination and equality, empowerment, and participation. A summary of each principle within the framing of reef conservation is provided.

Linking the protection of coral reef ecosystems to human rights highlights how crucial healthy ecosystems are for human well-being and underscores the inherent connection between human and nonhuman life.

Outrage has spread across social media, with many highlighting that US weapons are once again being used by “Israel” to kill American citizens, amplifying criticism of US support for Israeli crimes.

Kamel Ahmad Jawad, a resident of Dearborn, Michigan, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Lebanon, according to Reuters. The US State Department expressed that it was “deeply saddened” by his death.

Jawad had been in Lebanon while caring for his elderly mother, as reported by Detroit News. When asked about the incident, a State Department spokesperson stated, “It’s our understanding that it was a legal permanent resident, not an American citizen, [who was killed in Lebanon] but we obviously offer our sincerest condolences to the family.”

In a statement, Jawad’s family expressed their grief, emphasizing, “The fact that he was an American citizen should make his story more important than others,” adding that he was killed “while trying to save innocent lives in his hometown of Nabatieh, Lebanon.”

Final Straw: Mutual Aid Groups Mobilize in Face of Asheville Water …

A massive rainstorm hit Asheville, North Carolina and the surrounding areas, dumping eight inches of rain in a single day. Then, the next day, Hurricane Helene hit. This was the worst hurricane to hit the city in its recorded history.

Hurricane Helene at Firestorm Books We’re four days into the most significant natural disaster in the recorded history of our region. Our community is experiencing an ongoing crisis created by infrastructural collapse and the profound failure of capitalism to value and sustain life.

I’m writing this from my van in the parking lot between the anarchist bookstore and the punk bar, and all around, people are running around helping each other out. They’re gathering supplies, sorting out where they need to go, and getting them out. I spent most of yesterday and today driving things to and fro with my van, and I’ll be doing that more later I expect, but for now I’m sitting in the air conditioning with my overstimulated dog and catching up on work.
