These images were leaked out of Moria refugee camp in the island of Lesbos in Greece, exposing the dreadful and inhumane conditions that migrants are being forced to endure in order to survive in – 5°C / 23° F, sleeping in tents, on the frozen ground, under heavy snowfall. The severe weather conditions had been foreseen and expected for many days before, and yet hundreds of people that sacrificed everything to escape to “civilized” Europe have been left to their own demise.

The footage itself was captured on January 7, 2017 by an anonymous refugee, as a desperate message to the world about the appalling conditions they face. These images contradict the January 5, 2017 statement of Greek Migration Minister, Yiannis Mouzalas, when he stated “there are no refugees or migrants living in the cold anymore. Ecocide: Catastrophic dam in Ethiopia to wipe out Unique Cultures

5939243629_8f1991e0de_bOne of the most controversial dams in history has been  inaugurated. The Gibe III dam has put an end to the natural flooding of Ethiopia’s Omo River, on which 100,000 indigenous people depend and a further 100,000 rely indirectly.

Experts have warned that this could also mean the end for Lake Turkana in Kenya – the world’s largest desert lake – and disaster for the 300,000 tribespeople living along its shores.descarga-1

The dam was built by Italian engineering giant Salini Impregilo, against which Survival has filed a formal complaint that is still ongoing. Plans are now underway to build the Gibe IV and Gibe V dams downriver. Continue reading “Ecocide: Catastrophic dam in Ethiopia to wipe out Unique Cultures”

Once rich Libyan welfare State, still buried in War, Chaos, Hunger after NATO mega-crime

 ghadaffi-lives
Greedy western powers, led by the USA,  took advantage of the ‘Arab Spring’ to try and seize Libya’s oil and assets and cynically bombed the benevolent dictator Gaddafi out of power as a ‘humanitarian intervention’ in the name of ‘Parliamentary Democracy’ (which has never worked in a tribal moslem society). 5 years later the horror and suffering goes on and on, amid a search for a new dictator able to channel Libya-s wealth to western corporations.libya

info from  Higinio Polo at El Viejo Topo.. translation by The Free

We do not know how many people have died in Libya  as a result of the brutal NATO intervention in 2011. Some sources speak of about thirty thousand dead; Others increase that figure. The Red Cross estimates about 120,000 deaths. But there is no doubt that the war that started NATO has destroyed the country and thrown its six million inhabitants into a sinister nightmare. La Chispa! (The Spark): Rural Occupied Social Center resists Capitalist Speculation Eviction

la-chispaAfter a lengthy legal process  against four ex-occupiers the vibrant, active, self-managed SPARK project among the orchards of Lleida is condemned to be evicted in the new year by capitalist speculation

original by Sergi Bertran and Sonia Perez at La Directa.  … translated summary by The Free

….We are on the outskirts of Lleida city (in Lleida province). This area has undergone a major change in recent years… where there were small family orchards and country houses today they have built fast food chains, department stores, hotels and luxury villas. The companies and new owners of the land have been moving out the locals, buying up their land at high prices…

From 2013 the center became an inspiration for other anarchist projects like l’Ateneu Llibertari l’Arrel,, the Occupied Police Station La CORB, and l’Assemblea Llibertària. ….Dànae Quiroz
