Is Liberal Feminism even Feminism any more? + 56 Comments!

we reprint this great post from DavinaSquirrel with thankspatriarchy Firstly, what feminism is: Feminism is a political movement for the emancipation and liberation for all females, regardless of race, class, sexual orientation, reproductive status, disability status, etc. Secondly, what feminism is not: Feminism is not a catch-all social justice movement (although sometimes areas that affect women do become highlighted). Feminism is not a social club, after school activity at uni, an identity, or a hobby. Feminist is not something you are by virtue of your birth as a female.

While feminism may benefit other members of society (ie males) that is not our primary aim, more of a knock-on effect. This can be seen in the very few countries with a female majority government in combination with feminist principles. In short, all of society benefits from female liberation, disproving the (MRA) lie that a matriarchy is just the reverse of a patriarchy with males becoming the oppressed class. In the current circumstances of a patriarchy, all men benefit from a system of male domination and female subjugation, whether they like it, or reject it, or not.

A very small percentage of males with a social conscience will champion social justice causes, including feminism. This however, does not automatically make them “a feminist”, but a “feminist ally”, in the same way a white person working for black justice is an ally. Five members of the Seattle activist group the “Raging Grannies” were arrested by police Tuesday morning during a protest outside Terminal 5.

But it wasn’t easy.

The women, dressed in long skirts and sun hats and sipping from porcelain teacups, were bound together by so-called “sleeping dragons,” makeshift sleeves constructed with materials designed to make their removal difficult and time-consuming.

The “grannies” were part of two simultaneous protests against Shell’s offshore oil rig, which is at the terminal being prepared for Arctic drilling this summer.

While a group of younger protesters camped out on an overpass above, with two heavy oil drums and signs, the grannies chained their wooden rocking chairs together on the BNSF Railway tracks below. The women were also bound together by the homemade arm sleeves.

Seattle police Lt. Jim Arata warned the younger protesters…

Top Ansarullah Leader Welcomes UN-Backed Yemen Peace TalksTEHRAN (FNA)– A senior leader of Yemen’s Ansarullah movement welcomed upcoming UN-sponsored peace talks over the deadly conflict in the Arab country.

On Wednesday, Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, the head of the Supreme Revolutionary Council, voiced the movement’s readiness to take part in the peace talks, which is expected to kick off in the Swiss city of Geneva on June 14, press tv reported.

“Dialogue is the principle to us. There are no objections to talks,” said the second-in-command of the Ansarullah movement in an interview with The Associated Press.

Houthi lashed out at Yemen’s fugitive former president, Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, and his supporters, including the Saudi regime, for “foiling” any peace effort aimed at restoring peace and stability to the violence-ravaged country.

“They are putting pre-conditions to obstruct any talks that could lead the Yemeni people to a solution,” he stated in reference to the earlier remarks by…
