United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon welcomes a record vote by a General Assembly committee in favour of the call for a moratorium on the use of the death penalty, according to his spokesperson.

“Monday’s vote offers the opportunity to again encourage Member States who still practice the death penalty or retain it in law to follow suit,” the spokesperson added in a news statement, noting that 150 States have either abolished or do not practice the death penalty. Buy NOTHING .. Collapse Capitalism and Save the Planet!

This year, Adbusters, the folks behind BND, are upping the ante by promoting Buy Nothing Christmas, a challenge to not just skip a day of consumerism but opt out of the entire holiday shopping season

Buy Nothing Day 2012 is/was Sat 24/Nov. Could You Stop Spending for One Day?

Mark Boyle |Tuesday, 20th November 2012

Mark Boyle, author of The Moneyless Manifesto challenges you to take part in ‘Buy Nothing Month’ in 2013

It’s a classic scene from The Simpsons. A flock of marketing executives sit around a large table in a boardroom; sales, they’re told, are down in the third fiscal quarter, and they’re the people whose raison d’être is to make the graphs head northeasterly again. They break out into discussion, before a cigar-smoking man, with deep furrows of concern in his brow, intervenes.

He decides that they need to create a new day, and that it needs to be something “warm and fuzzy”. Cut to a new scene, where Homer is unwrapping his “Love Day” present, a talking toy bear called Sir Loves-a-Lot, whilst his daughter Lisa fills the rubbish bin full of Love Day wrapping paper.  Occupied Shoes

-‘Why can’t she have you as well? Why can’t she? Bloody hell!’-

                                              Maxie

‘But Maxie, it’s the middle of the night.’–  Macker complained.

Next morning. And I’d woken much too early, from another guilt ridden dream, featuring a

strange version of the diabolical Killian Bate. Macker was so groggy I let him slumber again.

Then I noticed I felt good, and I was singing to myself while I got everything ready.

Forgetting the dream.

Trembling to the memory of our bodies together. Continue reading “serial of The Free. Ch 19. Occupied Shoes”

The No to Veolia Action Group will be outside Haringey Civic Centre on Monday at 19:00 as part of its ‘Protest Blitz’, urging councillors not to award a waste management contract to Veolia, a company that profits from the occupation of Palestine.

The North London Waste Authority, which covers seven boroughs, is soon to award a £4.7 billion contract for waste management, and campaigners want Veolia excluded from the tendering process. Continue reading “Protest vs. Israeli Occupation Profiteer’s $5bn contract”

Terror in Gaza: End the cycle of retaliation

ANONYMOUS BACKS GAZA VICTIMS WITH MASSIVE HACK ATTACK ON ISRAELI WAR STATE see below

”This post on the Gaza horror is 6 years old. It could have been written today. Israel will never change its policy of State terrorism while it is sponsored by the biggest bully on the block :the USA. The fascistic government needs a few Israeli deaths to prop up falling support for its national/religious regime.”admin
Israel must end its provocations and cycles of retaliations if it ever wants to achieve peace.
Criminal Israeli State provokes yet another one-sided Cycle of Terror
If Israel ever hopes to stop the cycle of brutal violence, it must take negotiations more seriously, writes Bishara [AFP]
Watching the escalation in Israel/Palestine and the preparations for a possible all-out assault on the Gaza Strip, one hears many insightful and original commentary. Alas, when it’s original it’s usually inaccurate, and when it’s right it’s hardly new. Netanyahu, like his predecessors, is using the assassination of Hamas’s leader Ahmad Jabari and subsequent escalation to undermine the Palestinian leadership’s (Hamas and Fatah’s) political standing and improve his own political chances, by underlining Israel’s national security over economic security as the core issue preoccupying the nation, ahead of the elections. To make the point, here’s a piece I published six years ago titled, “Mideast: End the cycle of retaliation“, with minor changes of dates, names etc. As they continue to repeat themselves tirelessly and recycle the same claims, I shall repeat my analysis…( * 0nly changes are in yellow italics)
