→ 5 Comentaris Posted in Actes assemblea, Info general
EU knew since 80s Roundup causes birth defects
Industry and EU regulators knew as long ago as the 1980s-1990s that Roundup, the world’s best selling herbicide, causes birth defect– but they failed to inform the public. This is the conclusion of a new report, “Roundup and birth defects: Is the public being kept in the dark?” co-authored by a group of international scientists and researchers and released yesterday.[1]
The report reveals that industry’s own studies (including one commissioned by Monsanto) showed as long ago as the 1980s that Roundup’s active ingredient glyphosate causes birth defects in laboratory animals.
The German government has known about these findings since at least the 1990s, when as the “rapporteur” member state for glyphosate, it reviewed industry’s studies for the EU approval of the herbicide. The European Commission has known since at least 2002, when it signed off on glyphosate’s approval.
But this information was not made public. On the contrary, regulators have consistently misled the public about glyphosate’s safety. As recently as last year, the German Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety, BVL, told the Commission there was “no evidence of teratogenicity” (ability to cause birth defects) for glyphosate.

‘Monsanto’s Roundup Causes Birth Defects’:Scientists
Quick — name a brand of weedkiller.
What popped into your head? Was it, by any chance, Roundup?
The most popular and most widely-used herbicide in the world?
If it was, that’s great; the ubiquitous weedkiller will be our topic for discussion today
. Why? Because a new, comprehensive review of existing data again reveals, once again,
that scientific evidence shows that it may cause birth defects.

Dear Friends,
This will be a slightly longer letter than common for the internet age–it’s serious stuff.
The short version is we want you to consider doing something hard: coming to Washington in the hottest and stickiest weeks of the summer and engaging in civil disobedience that will likely get you arrested.
The full version goes like this:
As you know, the planet is steadily warming: 2010 was the warmest year on record, and we’ve seen the resulting chaos in almost every corner of the earth.
And as you also know, our democracy is increasingly controlled by special interests interested only in their short-term profit.
These two trends collide this summer in Washington, where the State Department and the White House have to decide whether to grant a certificate of ‘national interest’ to some of the biggest fossil fuel players on earth. These corporations want to build the so-called ‘Keystone XL Pipeline‘ from Canada’s tar sands to Texas refineries.
To call this project a horror is serious understatement. The tar sands have wrecked huge parts of Alberta, disrupting ways of life in indigenous communities–First Nations communities in Canada, and tribes along the pipeline route in the U.S. have

Peru victory:Bear Creek silver mine stopped. Aymaras occupy airport.
Thousands of protesters opposed to mining and energy projects in southern Peru have taken over a commercial airport as the government struggled to restore calm a day after five died in a clash with police. Officials said that approximately 3,000 protesters had occupied the runway at the Juliaca airport in the region of Puno on Saturday. Several hundred police officers retreated to avoid another clash after weeks of protests over a controversial Canadian mining project. Protesters often mobilize to protect scarce water supplies, what they see as ancestral lands, or complain about potential pollution from new mines. Often times they also demand direct economic benefits from mining and oil projects, which have helped turn the Andean nation’s economy into one of the world’s fastest-growing but left behind a third of its people in poverty. Halted project After earlier clashes on Friday, Fernando Gala, the deputy mining minister, announced that the government had revoked a 2007 decree granting approval to the British Columbia-based Bear Creek Mining Corp to mine silver at Santa Ana. The decree was required because the mine site is within 80km of the international border with Bolivia. “It has been agreed to repeal the authorisation,” said Yohny Lescano, a politician who participated in a government dialogue on Thursday with protesters over the Santa Ana project. Bear Creek Chief Executive Andrew Swarthout told Reuters news agency that the company would sue the government to get its concession back and mining analysts have said the government’s move could lead foreign companies to think contracts aren’t respected in Peru. But Garcia said stability and social peace was more important. In the days before the clash at the airport, the first time the protests turned deadly, protesters had set fire to government buildings in the area. “I think there are more important objectives and the first one is to guarantee a peaceful transition and a trouble-free start to the government of Ollanta Humala,” Garcia told reporters. Some 5,000 protesters, mostly Aymara Indians, have descended on Puno over the past few weeks to demand concessions be revoked for all mining companies, not just Bear Creek’s Santa Ana project, ostensibly over concerns about potential pollution. Protesters have paralysed the area with road blockades since May 9 in an attempt to cancel the Santa Ana mine, as well as a proposed hydroelectric project on the Inambari river.

Gay marriage wins in NY!
ew York has become the sixth and most populous US state to allow same-sex marriage.
The Republican-controlled state senate voted 33-29 for a bill that had earlier been approved by the lower house, which has a Democratic majority.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo quickly signed the bill into law. Gay weddings are expected to start within 30 days.
It has become a
contentious social issue ahead of next year’s presidential and congressional elections.
“New York has finally torn down the barrier that prevented same-sex couples from exercising the freedom to marry and from receiving the fundamental protections that so many couples and families take for granted,” Mr Cuomo said in a statement.
He kept his promise to sign the bill as soon as he received it after the Senate vote – rather than wait the usual 10 days.
Gay rights activists said the approval of the bill was a key victory for them, in what is seen as the birthplace of the US gay rights movement.

Ammonia NH3 scandal.CO2-free fuel suppressed by Big Oil.
80 years ago I could have taken a bus in Belgium that use CO2-free fuel, made from Green Gas Ammonia, and cheaper at present prices than gasoline. A car has been driven across America on NH3 with its motor slightly adapted, the safe clean fuel has been used for tractors, locomotives and even NASA JETS.
GREEN GAS NH3, is made by the same century old process used to make fertilizer..Just AIR plus WATER plus electricity. Now finally a new way to make Green Gas called SSAS has been found, which costs even less and is suited to wind turbine and off peak solar energy.
The oil and gas companies get billions every year in direct tax gifts from government, on top of their immense profits, and pay nothing to offset severe worldwide contamination and runaway climate change.
I`m not a moralistic person but last month I scrapped my old car.. Now I`m walking a lot and I live on a mountain. I really need transport, but how can I justify to my children if we take part in pushing the fragile world climate over the edge?
But WHY do we have to use planet destroying technology when a C02 free alternative has existed all along.? Why can no venture company get backing to produce the fuel, when the technology is simple and proven and even the distribution system already exists (for the fertilizer Ammonia)?
Because these corporate climate mega criminals have set it up that way. Of course. For nearly a century they have suppressed Green Gas NH3. When will they be prosecuted, pilloried , ostracised and brought to justice?..Okay I haven`t got much proof…
For example.. The company GreenNH3 (which sells green gas at 50c a liter) reports on its efforts to publicise the product on a CBC show… After going through the interview process the man and woman said, they wanted us on the show, but could not, since our product (technology) had been vetoed by one of the Dragons who (he) was heavy invested in oil. check it out here
How come the oil industry in Nth America gets a 2.5 billion yearly tax gift while Green Gas supporters don`t even get their petitions answered? Another wonder of predator Capitalism!
