Dockworkers boycott Spanish police ships sent against Catalan referendum

By Alejandro López in Spain    Dockworkers in Catalonia’s two main ports, Barcelona and Tarragona, are refusing supply services to vessels carrying riot police and paramilitary Civil Guard units sent by Spain’s Ministry of Interior to crush the secessionist referendum.

This comes amid a rapidly escalating political crisis in Spain caused by the central government repression of the independence referendum called by Catalan separatist forces for October 1.Image result for CNT furgonetas de policia entran en crucero Barcelona

Just over a week before the scheduled referendum, Spain’s Interior Ministry has activated one of the largest security operations since the end of the fascist regime of General Francisco Franco in 1978. It is employing three tourist cruise ships to house more than 4,000 police sent to Catalonia. Two of the boats are anchored in Barcelona and the third in Tarragona. Flood of Escalating Repression boosts Catalan Referendum Resistance

The fight between the majority of Catalans and the Spanish State is escalating by the hour. Support for holding an Independence Referendum on 1st Oct is growing in reaction to a flood of repression.

The far-right PP government, direct successor to the fascist Franco regime  has ordered thousands of militarized Guardia Civil into Catalonia where they are trying to try prevent the Referendum.

Some Key Events

Catalonia and Spain set for Head-On Collision over Right to a Referendum

All modern Nation States have quickly become repressive extortionist mafias claiming a 100% control of violence over their subjects.

Does anyone here care if there are 28 or 29 states in the EU?

Yes, for sure. The Catalans, for example,  say their language and culture have been brutally repressed and their wallets robbed by the Spanish State for 300 years.

As if to prove the Catalans right the Rajoy Government has banned any Referendum. prosecuted anyone  trying to organise it, refused to pay over legally agreed funds and uses its controlled Supreme Court to annul anything resembling Catalan rights and initiatives, from refugees to banning bullfighting.

Yet even the ‘left wing’ politicians, the socialists and Podemos in Madrid, anxious for a bigger slice of the coalition pie,  are now supporting State repression against Catalonia. The exception being the SAT union in Andalusia which offers to provide ballot boxes for Catalans living there.

This week the PP government have upped the rhetoric a notch by announcing that the planned Referendum on Oct 1st is an attempted Coup D’Etat, thus preparing the ground for mass arrests, takeover of the police force, suspension of the Catalan Parliament and possible army intervention.

“Like a mad bull in a china shop” the far-right and ultra corrupt minority government continues its criminal campaign of clinging to power by whipping up obscene racist anti Catalan hysteria. Continue reading “Catalonia and Spain set for Head-On Collision over Right to a Referendum”

Catalonia may CheckMate Spain On Overdue Bank Loans

concierto-normal-672xXx80Spanish politics is a mess.

from ZeroHedge with thanks.  Everyone knew, going into last fall and winter, that the waters were about to get decidedly choppy. At the national level, Podemos was ascendant as Pablo Iglesias rode a wave of anti-austerity sentiment straight to the front of disaffected voters’ collective consciousness.

A nation beset by sky high unemployment had grown tired of the PP and PSOE duopoly that had dominated Spanish politics since at least the late 80s. Between Podemos and Ciudadanos, a shakeup was virtually assured.Familias-con-sus-ninos-a-favor-de-la-independencia-el-pasado-11-de-Septiembre

Mother of All Storms Builds Over Catalonia’s Independence

by  Ugly repercussions far beyond Spanish borders

By Don Quijones, Spain & Mexico, editor at WOLF STREET:

For the last six months, tensions between Madrid and Barcelona seemed to have subsided, as most of the attention of Spanish government, the media, and the public was diverted by the seemingly unstoppable rise of Pablo Iglesias’ anti-austerity party Podemos — a rise that has suddenly stopped.

Now it seems that what first appeared as reduced tensions between Madrid and Spain’s north-eastern province was merely the calm before the mother of all storms. Continue reading “Mother of All Storms Builds Over Catalonia’s Independence”

1. BARCELONA RISES UP AGAINST PUBLIC TRANSPORT LUXURY PRICES

From January 2014, Barcelona’s public transport price has increased again . Travelling by public transport in Barcelona today costs 71% more than ten years ago. The fare of the two most used travel cards –  the T-10 (ten tickets) and the 30/50 (fifty ticket in thirty days, a kind of worker’s ticket) – have increased 5,10% and 8,4% respectively. A comparision between salary and a one-way city’s travel ticket cost in several cities around the world shows that Barcelona has the lowest salary and the highest ticket price, becoming a luxury -as in the Catalan TV sketch.
