Istanbul.. 191 Journalists jailed,..tens of thousands fired and imprisoned without trial .. Iraq and Syria invaded.. 2000 prosecuted for insulting the ‘de facto’ insane dictator Erdogan... and the British PM comes visiting, cap in hand, to sell him bombs and drink a nice cup of tea... (and don’t mention the Kurdish genocide!)
By Turkish Minute....Turkey’s press freedom woes are worse than you think, says a report published on Thursday by new advocacy group the Stockholm Center for Freedom (SCF), according to which 191 journalists are in jail, 92 are wanted and 839 have been charged.
SCF has documented the individual cases of 191 journalists who are either convicted and serving time in prison or jailed in pre-trial detention.
But why focus on this particular day, of all days? And why would it be worth driving across the country to a city crowded with reactionaries and police? Here are ten reasons why we think everyone needs to pull out the stops on January 20.
What is at stake here is not a single day of protest, but the paradigm of what it will mean to resist Trump. Right now, people around the US are outraged and terrified at the prospect of being governed by a megalomaniacal buffoon. This is an opportunity to expand the networks of people who are prepared to stand up to the government, but it won’t last long.
Organised by Unity of Democratic Forces – Meet at BBC for rally and March to Downing Street 15th January at 2pm.

The wave of repression unleashed by the Turkish state against the left and the Kurdish freedom movement that has seen tens of thousands fired from their jobs and thousands jailed, including many HDP MPs,has also hit the anarchist movement there. We heard last night that Hüseyin Civan has been sentenced to 15 months for editing the anarchist paper Meydan Gazetesi.
They have reported the sentencing as below;
Turkey: Editor of Meydan Gazetesi anarchist newspaper Hüseyin Civan sentenced to 1 year, 3 months imprisonment
“An investigation was started by Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s office about our newspaper related to articles “Both Arrival and Departure of State is From Fear”, “Banned Until Further Order”, and “Recreating Life” in issue 30 of our newspaper published on December 2015 with the caption “Banning Everything”. The lawsuit following the investigation ended after almost a year of trials. Continue reading “Editor of anarchist paper in Turkey jailed for 15 months”
We were right about the direction things are heading, but wrong about the time frame. We thought Clinton would win the election, and would then be discredited by new scandals and the challenges of preserving an increasingly unpopular status quo, producing a reactionary surge like the one that recently toppled Dilma in Brazil.
Instead, the scandal broke before the election, with the announcement of further FBI inquiries into emails associated with Clinton. And, as with the Brexit vote, everyone underestimated just how desperate and reactionary the general public has become—at least the ones who still identify with the ruling order enough to vote at all. It’s later than you think.
It’s significant that the news event that rescued Trump’s presidential bid was essentially an intervention by the FBI. This tells us a lot about the era we are entering: it is the security apparatus of the state that will be calling the shots, not the aspects of government that purport to improve the lives of citizens.
Capitalism, long stabilized in the so-called First World by the compromises that produced the middle class, will henceforth be imposed by force. The surplus of the 20th century has run out; the velvet glove is coming off the iron fist. Sure, demagogues like Trump and Sanders will continue to promise us the moon every four years or so, but it won’t be peace treaties that will preserve the prevailing order—it will be police. From the CrimethInc collective, a reflection on the pitfalls of electoral politics for radical challenges to Capital and the State
Could there be any better illustration of the shortcomings of representative democracy than this year’s Presidential campaign? For months upon tiresome months, the whole world has cringed as US voters struggled to identify the second worst of all possible evils.
As anarchists who believe in bona fide self-determination, we have critiqued and mobilized against the reduction of freedom to electoral politics in every Presidential race since 1996. This time, it just seemed redundant.
But the 2016 election is practically over. What’s coming next is worse.

TRAP NEWS…THE FARCE AWAKENS submedia TV
History has shown us that voting on elections accomplishes next to nothing, and that real lasting revolutionary change is won through hard work, by real people self organizing, and not by elected politicians. Yet every four years, the spectacle of the Democrats VS Republicans entices millions and makes them forget these proven facts. Trap News is our friendly (and funny, we hope) reminder of this.
Today this city reawakens its antifascista memory, stronger than ever, sending another statue to its place: the dustbin of history!
Twitter hosted a lot of laughs on Friday on account of the beheading, painting, smashing, overturning and trashing of the mass murdering dictator Francisco Franco. Anti fascists, gays and feminists competed to attack the statue day and night.
The controversial statue, which was erected as part of an ‘exhibition’ the Born cultural center in the city of Barcelona was retired last night by the rubbish department. , Daubed with of red paint, yellow and white, rotten eggs, with Catalan nationalist stickers and the LGBT flags rainbow flag, with ‘dedications’ scrawled on the hindquarters of the horse.
