Strong protests in Barcelona and nearby towns. Riot Police reinforcements moving from Madrid, Valladolid and Zaragoza # EfectoCanVies

7,000 people converge on the Saints in the third day of protests against the eviction of Can Vies, the police State, and  capitalist misery.

can vies dia 3 hBlue lights , police , reflected on the wet asphalt Street of Sants, a big working class barrio of trendy Barcelona. . Endless lines of Catalan police vans rushing up and down.. dispersing the thousands of demonstrators who immediately reappeared… a neighbour blasting protest songs from a balcony.. for the third consecutive day , this neighborhood has burned following the eviction of Can Vies, decreed by the government of Xavier Trias, of an assembly-run Social Center occupied for 17 years. ..

(Can Vies was a local self-run Occupied Social Center, going for 17 yrs in an ex union building, with wide neighbourhood support. The Coumcil  ordered an eviction for a ‘green space’ to crush an organisation outside its idea of a sanitised, top down, rich only, capitalist paradise. They were warned many times that evicting Can Vies would be the start of urbaan warfare, with 70% youth unemployment. Yet the arrogant idiots went ahead and lit that fuse…..)

Demo Sat 8th: Let’s combat Police State with local Self-defense

CanVies is an Occupied assembly run Social center, set in what was once a CNT Union Center 80 years ago, The occupation has lasted 17 years and has local support. In calling for ‘local defense’ against eviction the occupiers refer to the successful Gamonal community uprising in Burgos just 2 weeks ago. The evictions of 4 other Catalan social  centers are coinciding in the next weeks… more news to come…

By Can Vies Occupied Center  03 Feb 2014

We appeal to come and demonstrate to actively defend the streets,  and from the local self-organization movement to defend the autonomous social center Can Vies – at any time the City Council could exercise their power of  eviction – And also to defend all of the squatted social centers threatened in Catalonia…  (the Carboneria Squatted Center (La Carbò), the Expropriated Bank of Gracia,  the Popular Workers Center of the Eixample , the Gordíssima Occupied Autonomous Center (The Fattest One),  the May Flower (Flor de Maig)  and  the House of Dreams (Casa dels Somnis) ) , as well as to slow down the progress of the Police State and the criminalization of social movements , and show support for the antifascist prisoners from January 28 , one still in custody . The Burning Fuse: How Long Before It All Explodes?

Last week the Spanish authorities backed down rapidly as a violent neighbourhood campaign against yuppification  suddenly spread across the State. Suddenly popular resistance is on the menu with the hitherto pacifist  15M movement calling dozens of demos. Now there is a lull with hopes that many cities will take up their greievances and fight the coming police state legislation , here and across Europe.

Spain is home to almost one third of the Euro regions unemployed, with an unemployment rate of over 25% and it has been at that for six quarters in a row. That’s a lot of misery, poverty and deprivation, while the financial Mafia keep screwing the people and muttering about adjustments and growth. Solidarity demos in support of arrested in Gamonal spread to 46 Spanish cities

Who would have thought that a relatively conservative city like Burgos, Spain would have detonated a string of spontaneous and massive protest across the country? Over the past four days, social media networks across the globe have exploded with the hashtag #Gamonal and #EfectoGamonal, virilizing this small town’s struggle against rising property prices and corrupt municipal dealings to international attention, and along the way reawaken national indignation that has been simmering in Spain for years.
