Docu: Ingobernables: Trip round anarchist Catalonia (in Spanish/Catalan)

portada-parte-delante-ingobernables

The full length documentary, UNGOVERNABLES tries to approach the present reality of the anarchist or anti-authoritarian movement in Catalonia. It deals with the social unrest of recent years: general strikes, blockade of “parlament”, the indignant movement, self-organization processes in neighborhoods and workplaces, the revolt of Can Vies. As well as the vision of the ruling classes and the media of what they themselves have called the “anti”.

The State’s response to the struggle has focused on repression and criminal hardening as demonstrated by the adoption of the “gag law” or the application of the antiterrorism law to anarchism in different cases and in the operation called “Pandora”. Radical Solidarity fails to stop Madrid family Eviction

vallekas eviction

The owner of the property, Bankia, was set up when various small corrupt banks went bankrupt due to the property bubble collapse. It was ‘recapitalised’ with 22,424 million euros of borrowed public money, and it was written into the constitution that these new mega debts must have their interest paid before anything else ,(like health, pensions education) the total for all banks is over 100 billion!

So Spain, like Greece,  is really a ‘cash cow’ being milked forever by international banks and funds. The PAH activists argue that as Bankia, Sareb, etc were set up or bailed out with billions in public tax money their assets of evicted houses belong to the people, and should not be sold off dirt cheap to international property sharks.

In Madrid the new left City Council had promised relief to the countless evicted for mortgage arrears or guaranteeing mortgage victims, but now seems to be rapidly changing its tune.

RIGHT TO HOUSING

A woman and her baby were brutally evicted after police charges in Villa de Vallecas barrio.

The National Police have charged against Vallekas PAH activists, one of them was taken to hospital. by Diagonal.  The PAH ( mortgage victims support group) does not recognize the legitimacy of any government that does not approve its five demands... • Michelle had her abortion alone in a small apartment in Limerick, Ireland.

The 25-year-old postgraduate student waited until her flatmate had left for the weekend before swallowing the pills she’d gone to Belfast to collect earlier that week. “I didn’t know her that well,” she says. “I didn’t know really anyone in the city. I’d just started my Masters and was pregnant after a one night stand.”aborto libre

She describes taking the pills alone as one of the most terrifying experiences of her life. “I knew it would hurt but I had no idea it would be so bad,” she says. “An hour or so after taking the pills I started vomiting and felt like I had the worst fever. Then the cramps started, I was trapped in my tiny bathroom. It went on for six hours. I kept feeling like I was going to pass out and wondered what would happen to me if I bled out, who could I call? I was completely alone,” she says. Continue reading “Women made to do DIY medical Abortions”

What is ‘Anationalism’? How Bosses exploit Patriotism and Religion

What is Anationalism?
Anationalism grew out of the radical movements for Internationalism and cosmopolitanism  in the early twentieth century and was a reaction of anarchism against escalating war hysteria. Today few remember this movement.

by Bernat Castany Prado. University of Barcelona

The term “anationalism” was coined in the early twentieth century by Eugène Lanti, an anarchist activist (1879-1947), to designate a new political movement that sought to eliminate the nation not only as a variable in the international workers struggle, but even more as the basic unit of all socio-political organization.

Nearly a hundred years later hardly anyone remembers that project. Neither the Encyclopedia of Nationalism (2000), coordinated by Athena S. Leoussi nor the Encyclopedia of nationalism (1999), coordinated by Andrés de Blas Guerrero, even include the entry “anationalism”.

Nor does it appear in the main theoretical writings on nationalism (Ernst Gellner, Anthony D. Smith, Ellie Kedourie, Michael Billig or Eric Hobsbawm), nor even in studies that advocate postnationalism (Jürgen Habermas, Pascale Casanova, Edward Said, Bernat Castany) is  Eugène Lanti or anationalism mentioned once.

The purpose of these lines is to put back into circulation a concept that today seems to us necessary to clarify and streamline some of the political identities being debated these days… Continue reading “What is ‘Anationalism’? How Bosses exploit Patriotism and Religion”

“Requiem for a Journey of No Return”

by  Nikos Romanos (extract from Contra Infos.)Untitled

…….”If we close our eyes and ears to the ceaseless flow of dominant propaganda, we’ll be able to listen to the thousands of anonymous deaths in police stations, terrestrial and maritime border areas, concentration camps, psychiatric institutions and prisons, war zones across the Middle East, and sweatshops that exterminate contemporary slaves. greeceAnyone can hear the cries of people who are being tortured in police cells, who commit suicide in a confinement facility out of desperation, who are sunk by coast guard cops and drowned in the cold waters of the Mediterranean Sea, who are crippling their bodies over multinationals’ production machines in third world countries, who are buried under rubble after blind aerial bombardments conducted by capitalist empires.
