Enric Duran on disobedient crowdfunding … CoopFunding

Enric Duran on shared and disobedient crowdfunding platform networks | P2P-Foundation by GNUnion

We’ve recently featured Coopfunding, an Open-Sourced crowdfunding platform designed to “…promote the financing of projects with a social, self managed and cooperative nature.”  Today we present a guest article by Enric Duran, one of the developers behind Coopfunding and its parent-project, the Catalan Integral Cooperative, explaining the reasons that led to the creation of Coopfunding. This article was originally published in Radi.MS

CoopfundingCoopfunding,

The expansion of crowdfunding in the last few years has been quite vertiginous.

Hundreds of projects have been able to get off the ground around the world coming from very different backgrounds but united in the aim of creating a link between donors and the projects they sponsor.

Crowdfunding, for its practicality and usefulness, has expanded without any ideological limitation and while it served to finance many social projects it has also supported more conventional initiatives based on consumerism and business as meant in the capitalist system.

In this way, more traditional fund raising events like benefit gigs and have been overlooked, and we should take in to account that with the crowdfunding model we are at risk of leaving the financing of social initiative in the hands of unscrupulous business which, through the management of crowdfunding platforms, are making the same profit that any middle man would make in an ordinary business transaction, through the charge of commissions which range between 5% and 10% of the donations received. Crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter and Indygogo have already made profits in the millions region. Continue reading “Enric Duran on disobedient crowdfunding … CoopFunding”

How imposed Precarity, Anxiety and Isolation keep us Passive

 WHO I AM

This group argue that a big taboo is seeing how our anxiety is caused by the system and not just ourselves, and how exposing this can empower us to fight back.

Six Theses on Anxiety and Why It is Effectively Preventing Militancy, and One Possible Strategy for Overcoming It 1

Reposted with the kind permission of the Institute for Precarious Consciousness: www.weareplanc.org

1:  Each phase of capitalism has its own dominant reactive ‘affect’. 2

Each phase of capitalism has a particular affect which holds it together. This is not a static situation. The prevalence of a particular dominant affect 3 is sustainable only until strategies of resistance able to break down this particular affect and /or its social sources are formulated. Hence, capitalism constantly comes into crisis and recomposes around newly dominant affects.

7,000 people converge on the Saints in the third day of protests against the eviction of Can Vies, the police State, and  capitalist misery.

can vies dia 3 hBlue lights , police , reflected on the wet asphalt Street of Sants, a big working class barrio of trendy Barcelona. . Endless lines of Catalan police vans rushing up and down.. dispersing the thousands of demonstrators who immediately reappeared… a neighbour blasting protest songs from a balcony.. for the third consecutive day , this neighborhood has burned following the eviction of Can Vies, decreed by the government of Xavier Trias, of an assembly-run Social Center occupied for 17 years. ..

(Can Vies was a local self-run Occupied Social Center, going for 17 yrs in an ex union building, with wide neighbourhood support. The Coumcil  ordered an eviction for a ‘green space’ to crush an organisation outside its idea of a sanitised, top down, rich only, capitalist paradise. They were warned many times that evicting Can Vies would be the start of urbaan warfare, with 70% youth unemployment. Yet the arrogant idiots went ahead and lit that fuse…..)

In the summer of 2009, on a highway in Peru known as Devil’s Curve: everything went wrong. For months, indigenous groups had protested new laws by then President Alan Garcia opening up the Amazon to deregulated logging, fossil fuels, and other extractive industries as a part of free trade agreements with the U.S. But the protests came to a bloody head on June 5th when police clashed with activists, leaving at least 32 dead and 200 injured. Biggest ever Fast-Food Worker Strike in 6 Continents

This is a great new beginning. International strikes are a brilliant way to stop outsourcing industry to places with even worse slave labour conditions. With world strikes we can stop the crazy concentration of wealth, and stop the abuse of nationalism to manipulate us against each other.

Workers braved the dismal weather on the morning of May 15th to demand higher wages and the right to unionize at McDonald’s and other fast-food restaurants. (Amien Essif)

It’s 6 a.m. in Chicago, and the bitingly cold, drizzly weather seems oblivious to the fact that it’s May 15th. And yet, a crowd of more than 100 people wearing red ponchos has formed outside of a McDonald’s restaurant downtown, where they’re dancing to mariachi music. fast food stike 5
