Madrid ratchets up Catalonia independence crackdown

Graphic images of the recent clashes between protesters and police in Barcelona serve as a stark reminder of the political repression Catalans have suffered at the hands of Madrid since voting for independence.

Catalans took to the streets of Barcelona last Sunday, and the days following, to protest the arrest in Germany of former separatist leader Carles Puigdemont. Dozens of protesters were injured by the all-too-familiar heavy-handed tactics employed by police against pro-independence demonstrators – adding to the indignity of Puigdemont’s politically-motivated detention.

Fascists burn Ateneu Popular Workers Centre in Barcelona

While the Spanish government and the press in Madrid have not stopped talking about violence by citizens and pro-independence groups, this morning they burned the Ateneu de Sarrià and painted it with Nazi and fascist symbols.

The site had already suffered attacks in advance, which have intensified since the referendum was held. On the walls of the patio have appeared swasticas,”Death to the CDR” (Citizens Defense)

Again, today at about three in the morning, the Ateneu Popular de Sarrià has suffered a fire, which has left the site destroyed. Awaiting the firemen’s report, they have already advanced that the building will probably have to be demolished due to its bad condition.

The centre was still being rebuilt after another fascist attack last November. The fascists are well known but enjoy impunity, encouragement and even financial aid via the Spanish State for hundreds of attacks in a bid to stifle public support for imprisoned Catalan activists and politicians. Resistance Continues – Open Letter After #WorldAfrinDay + reports

The following open letter comes from Internationalist Commune, and addresses those across the globe who took part in #WorldAfrinDay.

We, who are working here in Rojava as internationals, are part of the worldwide fight of the opressed against the reign of state, capital and pathriarchy.

The #WorldAfrinDay has been a historical example of resistance and international solidarity. Thousands took to the streets and stood up against this war, giving their support to the resistance and values of this revolution.

Solidarity came from more than 50 cities from all around the world, and it proved how important what is happening here is for people. New groups and new people are organizing their solidarity, getting involved and defend the revolution. From Canada to Australia, from Mexico to Japan, the world has shown that Afrin is not alone.

For two months, the bombs of the Turkish army have been falling and killing people in Afrin. During these same two months, there have been worldwide actions against this occupation.

And they will continue. Afrin, as the western canton of the Democratic Federation of Northern Syria, will be defended as the beacon of hope that it became, as the source of inspiration that it is. The bottom-up democracy, with women at the forefront building social ecology, is what the capitalist system tries to keep locked up, claiming that ‘there is no alternative’, that utopia is not possible.

But here, we learned that another world is not only possible, but necessary, and it just depends on how much we believe in it, how determined we are to bring this utopia into existence.

Afrin is now under the occupation of the Turkish army. After these months of resistance, to see the occupation forces entering the city may seem like the utopia is going away once again; but no one said the revolution would come around easily.

It was something we had only imagined before coming to Rojava, and witnessing with our own eyes what’s going on here. Today, here, we are taking on several centuries of the capitalist system and nation-state model. We are challenging thousands of years of patriarchal oppression and male rule power. he probado el plug-in.. salió rapidamente una lista de 16 videos , 7 de ellos eran claramente PROPAGANDA POR NAZIS, uno glorificando un ataque sexual y la mayoria de los demás peliculas y dibujos animados con contenido muy racista. Explican todo..(menos mal porque yo no habría dado cuento a veces). Pero si no sabes algo de inglés hay que traducir, y parece que los compañeros de Nueva York no hablan castellano, así que faltaria el plug-in también en más idiomas. … Hacer la denuncia es un clic, un momento, he denunciado todos.

This Browser Plug-In Lets You Resist Fascism on the Internet

31st July 2018 We just checked and the No Platform for Fascism Tool Kit, seems to be unavailable on Firefox , at least here in Spain. Doesn’t appear on search.

But it may still exist for those who already have it installed, we relaunched Firefox and lost it.

On Chrome you can still install it with this link..Chrome. but it also doesnt appear in the search list.

Hopefully Antifa heroes MACC can update access to this excellent anti fascist tool on Firefox!

Help remove far-right propaganda from YouTube with this extension for Chrome and Firefox

by Arvind Dilawar YouTube has long been acknowledged as, well, not exactly the friendliest place on the Internet. But as the far right has ascended in the wake of Donald Trump’s election, many critics have accused the video-sharing website of being much worse than a playground for trolls; they believe that YouTube is an avenue for radicalization and recruitment.

Following complaints that the site’s search algorithm was only thinly veiling caches of hateful propaganda, YouTube decided to exclude some users from monetizing their content. But while the site is no longer paying extremists, it is still very much hosting them.

The Metropolitan Anarchist Coordinating Council, an organization facilitating collaboration between New York City-based anarchists, believes that the far right must be fought on every front.

Accordingly, MACC recently released the No Platform for Fascism Tool Kit, a browser plug-in for both Chrome and Firefox, which each week serves users videos from neo-Nazi, white supremacist, and ethno-nationalist individuals and organizations to report.

The “Approved Judgement” issued yesterday by Mr Justice Williams ruling in the case of the Skripals in the High Court contains a disturbing admission of deception on the part of the May government

As Craig Murray has already observed, the wording in the Approved Judgement issued by Mr Justice May on March 22, makes it clear the UK government’s claim, first made on March 8, to have conclusively identified the alleged “nerve agent” as being an indicator of Russian state involvement, is a lie. This is what the Judgement says:

i) CC: Porton Down Chemical and Biological Analyst Blood samples from Sergei Skripal and Yulia Skripal were analysed and the findings indicated exposure to a nerve agent or related compound. The samples tested positive for the presence of a Novichok class nerve agent or closely related agent.

Murray correctly points out that the emphasised words (his emphasis) categorically show the UK has, at best, made only a very general identification of the agent involved as being “related” to what it terms “novichok.”

This sworn Court evidence direct from Porton Down is utterly incompatible with what Boris Johnson has been saying. The truth is that Porton Down have not even positively identified this as a “Novichok”, as opposed to “a closely related agent”. Even if it were a “Novichok” that would not prove manufacture in Russia, and a “closely related agent” could be manufactured by literally scores of state and non-state actors.

This constitutes irrefutable evidence that the government have been straight out lying – to Parliament, to the EU, to NATO, to the United Nations, and above all to the people – about their degree of certainty of the origin of the attack….As the government has sought to whip up jingoistic hysteria in advance of forthcoming local elections, the scale of the lie has daily increased.
