On the anarcha-feminist movement in Spain

Anarcha-feminism and anarcho-machismo in Spain

Interview with the Valeries by Jeremy Kay http://mutinyzine.blog.compatriarcadoOn anarchism and machismo

We’ll start with a story that illustrates the sort of thing anarcha-feminists regularly deal with within the anarchist movement in Spain.

It happened at Casa Blanca – a squatted, self-managed social centre in central Madrid. It was a very big building with lots of space, and had more-or-less anarchist politics. It was squatted in early 2010 and evicted in September 2012. Hundreds of different collectives participated in the space.

Sometime towards the beginning of the occupation, a group of womyn asked the general assembly of the building for a womyn’s autonomous space. [This article uses the term ‘autonomous’ as is common among English-speaking activists, but the term used in Spanish is literally ‘non-mixed’.] The assembly said yes to this request, and the womyn started fixing up the space – cleaning and putting in lights etc.

During this time, we put up a poster on the door of the space that said ‘autonomous space – no machistas’ [ie ‘no patriarchs / macho arseholes’]. Someone wrote on the poster underneath ‘nor feminazis.’ That was a sign of things to come.images

Spanish State witch-hunts Social Anarchists

Spanish police today arrested (so far) 28 more ‘anarchists’, mostly in dawn raids on homes and squat centers across the State, the raids are ”open and ongoing and preventive’.  free anarchists

15 of them are being accused of membership of CAG (Coordinated Anarchist Groups) 10 from Madrid, 2 from Palencia and 3 from Barcelona, the other 13 are arrested for ‘Resisting Authority’. The police found a manifesto of CAG on the Internet which approves of sabotage, and that’s enough to convict anyone they say is a member.

In immediate response over 2000 marched in Madrid, yelling ‘I too am an Anarchist’. In Barcelona four demos met up at the house of one arrested, making at least 1000.

In the Occupied Social Centers the police reported finding ‘small amounts of marijuana, a scales for weighing drugs, copious literature (they have libraries), a gas bottle’, ….etc.

The national media is trumpeting the guilt of the ‘insurrectional anarchist terrorists’ repeating a load of invented lies, elaborating on the fantasies used after vthe recent Operation Pandora’, when 7 ‘anarchists’ were arrested on  similar charges, now out on bail. Despite being seen as a ‘celebrity’ and contrary to the cynical comments of pundits, Russell Brand – recently voted 4th in a survey on the ‘most influential thinkers in the world’ – has proved he is no mere ideologue in his pivotal support for the direct action of tenants at the New Era housing estate in east London and who is now putting his money where his mouth is (by using the profits from his book, “Revolution”) to fund a community enterprise – a cafe and meeting place – that he sees as an example of localised social anarchism. There are other examples of this kind of enterprise in Britain, though far more in other countries, notably Greece, Spain and Mexico. These are explored…

At the opening of the New Era cafe and community centre, Brand said: “We’ll start more of these social enterprises. Eventually we will trade with…

WikiLeaks reveals negotiators planning to expand secret corporate tribunals

"With the veil of secrecy ripped back, finally everyone can see for themselves that the TPP would give multinational corporations extraordinary new powers that undermine our sovereignty," said Lori Wallach of Public Citizen. (Photo courtesy of Wikileaks)

Newly leaked classified documents show that the secretive Trans-Pacific Partnership deal, if it goes through as written, will dramatically expand the power of corporations to use closed-door tribunals to challenge—and supersede—domestic laws, including environmental, labor, and public health, and other protections.

The tribunals, made infamous under NAFTA, were exposed in the “Investment Chapter” from the TPP negotiations, which was released to the public by WikiLeaks on Wednesday.

“The TPP has developed in secret an unaccountable supranational court for multinationals to sue states,” said Julian Assange, WikiLeaks editor. “This system is a challenge to…
