The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) has shown its support for the World Strike for Climate day by joining it in defense of the planet on September 27, 2019.

by ..Press Office of the CGT via  RojoyNegro.  translation thefreeonline

On this day of struggle, convened by groups and organizations throughout the State, governments will be required to immediately declare a climatic emergency and take urgent and concrete measures aimed at reducing greenhouse gases.

More than 50 organizations urge citizens to support this strike day in defense of the planet and call a student and consumer strike in the Spanish State.

In this sense, organizations raise the need to adopt a new socio-ecological model “that does not compromise life as we know it”, since more than one million species (animals and plants) are on the verge of extinction as a consequence of human activity

Similarly, rising temperatures are also worrisome and will have catastrophic consequences for present and future generations due to sea level rise, more intense and prolonged heat waves, droughts, lack of drinking water, etc.

The signatory organizations of the Alliance for Climate Emergency remind state rulers of the responsibility they have in front of different institutions, so they insist that the fight for the climate emergency must encompass all people.

From CGT, a call has been made to the whole society to support this day of World Strike for Climate and urges to participate in all the events organized for this day throughout the Spanish State.

Stop Amazon’s Slave Work Conditions. World Solidarity for Strike in Amazon Spain

Workers at Amazon’s center near Madrid took on the richest capitalist ever, Jeff Bezos , in a 3 day strike on July 16 to 18 (Amazon’s ‘Prime Sales Days’ ) against severe cuts in their working conditions.

On the second day of the strike riot police charged and viciously beat up defiant pickets, injuring many and arresting three, later released with charges. Video of the police attack in favour of Amazon went viral around the world on social media.Amazon’s management thought they could intimidate a local dispute but the assembly based strikers of the anarcho-syndicalist CGT and the CCOO called out 80% of the full time workers, nearly shutting down the operation.

International solidarity was the key breakthrough, union delegates had previously traveled to Italy and Germany to seek support. 1,200 people in six German centers seconded the strike on these same days , while in Poland there have also been days of strikes despite “completely contrary legislation”. 6 Million Women Reclaim their Power: The1st Feminist General Strike

A strike against/beyond borders: The March 8 feminist strike

It was to be a Feminist women’s strike, at work and in the home. In order to give it legal coverage it had to be officially registered by a Trade Union, in this case the anarchist CGT and CNT. But it’s not legal to call a Women’s Strike in the Spanish State, so they went one further and registered it as the first feminist General Strike. Legal and official.  Helped by hundreds of women’s collectives, women journalists and social media the strike snowballed amazingly to over 6 million women.

This year’s call for a global women’s strike to mark the 8th of March women’s day was expressed in protests throughout the world.  But it found no greater resonance than in the Spanish State.

The call to strike was already in itself a radical gesture, to move beyond the ever so often tepid parades of slogans for equality of rights.  However useful such moments may be, their political limitations are profound.https://thefreeonline.files.wordpress.com/2018/03/cartel-cgt-llamada-convocado-derechos_ediima20180118_0870_19.jpg

In the Spanish State, the strike call was made in the name of feminism: March 8th was to be a Huelga Feminista, under the rallying cry of “If we stop, the world stops!”.  And if Spain did not come altogether to a stand still, tens of thousands protested during the day and roving pickets closed roads, public transportation services, shops.  Public and private sector workers (teachers, journalists, care workers, cleaners (las kellys) and so on) struck.

Originally called by radical labour unions (the CNT, CGT, among others), along with hundreds of feminist collectives and other political groups, its extraordinary resonance finally forced Spain’s larger labour unions (the CCOO and the UGT) to join, with their membership contributing to a two hour afternoon labour stoppage involving some 6 million people. (El Pais 08/03/2018).

CAN YOU describe how the strike was organized? What were the most important organizations?  …..THE STRIKE began to be organized in August and September of 2017, a time during which many feminist collectives in the Spanish state met to analyze the feminist movement and the situation in which it was operating and to assess the potential for organizing a strike on March 8, 2018, following the strike organized by feminists in Argentina in March 2017. …YOU CAN read the strike’s manifesto here. Site where new Migrant Prison is Due to be Built Occupied by CGT Anarchist Union

CGT occupies the land of Botafuegos where the Government plans to build a CIE

By RojoyNegro_Digital on, 02/02/2018

Some thirty CGT activists from different parts of the Spanish geography have occupied the Botafuegos site this afternoon, where the Government plans to build a Foreigner Internment Center (CIE).

Members of the union have come from different points of Catalonia, Aragon, Madrid and Andalusia, and have occupied with tents the site loaned by the City of Algeciras to the Ministry of the Interior for the construction of the CIE.

The general secretary of CGT Andalucía, Miguel Montenegro, said that “what we want is to denounce the future construction of the CIE in Algeciras and to shout loud and clear that we do not want more borders, more innocent prisoners and more deaths in invented prisons as happened at Archidona’s CIE at Christmas. “ Continue reading “Site where new Migrant Prison is Due to be Built Occupied by CGT Anarchist Union”

All Authoritarians Condemn Catalonia : Anarchists call for Revolution

Seems like every State and Authoritarian on the planet is virulently against Catalans complaining about 500 years of macho Spanish colonialism.  Of course, because their very own ‘cash cow’ populations could go copy-cat. Rebellion is brewing everywhere as wealth is funneled ever more to the tiny hierarchical elite.

The Spanish Right, unreformed, rabid and clerical have wallowed in repressive robbery and mass murder for centuries. But recently some of the tens of thousands of politicians have been caught with their greedy fat fingers in the public cash box.

No prison, no punishment, of course, but the far right PP almost got voted out. And one way they could keep power was by BLAMING THE CATALANS. For 5 years we have suffered an incessant racist campaign against these hospitable and long suffering people. And now provoking a tidal wave of racist and sexist male violence against them.

Until finally… We want back the democratic Republic your military took from us by murder and massacre. We don’t want your King, appointed by a fascist dictator, or your Constitution, agreed only under the threat of 40 more years of total repression.

Hopefully the blind authoritarianism of the stomping PP nationalists will be the death throes of the imperial mentality,. If not the Catalans will resist, the debts won’t be paid, and the entire economic House of Cards  could tumble down.

Then maybe we can build something better in Iberia.

New Joint Declaration from Anarchist Trade Unions

viaJulius Gavroche, with thanks……..  The government of Catalonia declares its independence from Spain; the Spanish government in response dismisses the Catalan government, assumes direct control of the region and declares regional elections for the 21st of December.  What happens from hereon in is unknown.  Below is a statement from the country’s principal anarchist labour unions before the unfolding of events

The undersigned organisations, national labour unions, share our preoccupation with the situation in Catalonia, because of the State repression unleashed, because of the decrease in rights and freedoms that this presupposes and will presuppose, and because of the growth of a rancid nationalism that again shows its face in a great part of the country. A victory for the working men and women despite the long news blackout of the mainstream media and the treachery of the mainstream CCOO ‘communist’  and the ‘socialist’  UGT unions.CElY6KhXIAA-7qC“(VIDEO) The  strikers occupied the headquarters of Telefonica and the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona

One hundred people entered the lobby of the building occupying it indefinitely, with the support of Iaioflautes, the Yellow Assembly, the PAH, the IAC, CGT anarcho syndicalist union and CUP Barcelona. Continue reading “Occupy Mobile Congress Strikers force Telefónica concession”

31st Oct Anarchist Union Action Day Report

next in the series will be South Europe general Strike on Nov 14th

A demo of about 500 people  came in the morning to the Barcelona city center starting from Plaza Catalunya, stopping at some notorious companies where they encouraged the workers to join the strike ecundaran the day, or what they represent in terms the modern labor exploitation.

FNAC was visited, the company Apple, BBVA, etc, going down Via Laietana and the demonstration and ending in front of the Employers Central. Besides the main picket in various neighborhoods of the city there was picketing organized by neighborhood assemblies. Continue reading “31st Oct Anarchist Union Action Day Report”

Spain: anarchist unions call GENERAL STRIKE. Oct31.

Final Update Oct 30th.  the General Strike call for tomorrow will go ahead as a ‘Day Of Struggle’ with direct actions in Catalunya, plus pickets, a partial transport strike, and a demo in the evening. This is an alternative and building resistance. It’s also been backed by the CNT anarcho syndicalist union, (which is quite small as it refuses to cooperate with the State.) Of course these anarchist unions also support the Nov 14th South Europe General Strike!

Update Oct 24th.. Finally the ‘majority’ Unions have called a General Strike for Nov 14th. But the CGT are going ahead with theirs anyway.. let’s see if it works!!

(summary translated by The Free). The big sold out Unions have so far failed to back the Anarchist call but are pressured to do so. All the Unions missed the chance to strike on Sept 26th with Euskadi and Greece and link with Occupy Congress..

Unemployment continues to increase in SEPTEMBER

CGT GENERAL STRIKE CALLED for OCTOBER 31

…..More and more workers in the unemployment line, according to just released by the Ministry of Employment and Social Security with the September data in hand. There are 79,645 new people, an increase of 1.72% compared to the end of August, which reached a staggering 4.7 million registered unemployed in INEM offices, while membership in the Social Security descends by 86,174 people….

If to this we add the precarious labor precariousness of basic rights such as education and health-victims of savage cuts, alongside the dismantling and privatization of basic public services, the picture becomes bleak, and should be considered as a real provocation and insult to our dignity….. Take the Streets. Spanish Revolution update

Witnessing the umpteenth attempt demobilization and distraction by the CCOO and UGT and the institutional left, under the umbrella of an alleged Social Summit, right at the time when we suffer the most savage attacks on the rights of workers by capitalism .
We are not facing a crisis, this is a big scam, before the inevitable consequences of capitalism, promoted by the greedy policies of the IMF, World Bank, European Union and the ECB and its political arm in the Spanish state: the PP, the PSOE and his cohorts.
Attacks on workers over the years have been constant, differing in PP and PSOE forms.
