#FreeSarahAndSean: Criminalisation of Life-savers Continues

via   Originally by  Ioanna Schuppert

Seán, Sarah and Nassos have now been in custody for over two weeks. They have been arrested because of their work with refugees on Lesvos.

For Seán, this mainly includes search and rescue of and shoreline response to migrant boats arriving from Turkey – essentially ensuring that people do not die or come to serious harm on this crossing.

Sarah also played a large role in Search and Rescue on Lesvos, but she is also a very important spokesperson for this issue and has raised a lot of money through public speaking, including, for example at TedX and Harvard University.

Sarah is a refugee herself, and gained a lot of public attention when, during her own crossing from Turkey in 2015, the boat broke down and she, along with three other people, jumped into the water and helped bring it to shore, saving the lives of 20 people. Site where new Migrant Prison is Due to be Built Occupied by CGT Anarchist Union

CGT occupies the land of Botafuegos where the Government plans to build a CIE

By RojoyNegro_Digital on, 02/02/2018

Some thirty CGT activists from different parts of the Spanish geography have occupied the Botafuegos site this afternoon, where the Government plans to build a Foreigner Internment Center (CIE).

Members of the union have come from different points of Catalonia, Aragon, Madrid and Andalusia, and have occupied with tents the site loaned by the City of Algeciras to the Ministry of the Interior for the construction of the CIE.

The general secretary of CGT Andalucía, Miguel Montenegro, said that “what we want is to denounce the future construction of the CIE in Algeciras and to shout loud and clear that we do not want more borders, more innocent prisoners and more deaths in invented prisons as happened at Archidona’s CIE at Christmas. “ Continue reading “Site where new Migrant Prison is Due to be Built Occupied by CGT Anarchist Union”

An example of Australian racism from Nauru

Computer engineer Arash Shirmohamadi is one of several refugees who, reportedly, are subject to this cruel practice by Australia. In 2013, after fleeing persecution in Iran because of his Baha’i faith, he was forced by Australia to go to the tiny Pacific island of Nauru. Since then he has attempted suicide, and suffers seizures and paralysis.

Arash Shirmohamadi, an Iranian refugee held on Nauru for four years, has never seen or held his infant daughter. Continue reading “New Levellers single seeks Solidarity for Millions of Forgotten Refugees”
