Millions demand Abolition of fascist appointed Spanish Monarchy

Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Spain on Saturday to demand a referendum to abolish Spain’s monarchy, just days after King Juan Carlos abdicated in favor of his son.“Spain, tomorrow, will be republican,” they chanted, waving the red, purple and gold flags of the country’s second republic, proclaimed in 1931 then overthrown eight years later by Gen. Francisco Franco at the end of the country’s catastrophic civil war.


It was only a few hours after the 76-year-old king announced his abdication on June 2 that a wave of protests drawing hundreds of thousands spread across the country.

On Saturday tens of thousands or more people from dozens of left-wing political parties and citizens organizations came together to demand “a referendum now” on the future of the monarchy.

During the 40 year long fascist dictatorship in Spain numerous republican and democratic laws were abolished, like the laws on civil marriage and divorce. Abortion was severely punished. Women’s legal ability was greatly restricted, and subjected to the authority of the father or the husband. Women were basically slaves. Family and womens laws were dictated directly from the Vatican. Ten shocking facts about fascist crimes in Spain

Joaquim Bosch , spokesman for the progressive Association of Judges for Democracy , wanted to explain in a simple way and through a Decalogue their stance on the situation of the families of the victims of Francoism and the «shameful » Spanish Government action to not favor or even allow the recovery of their remains . Spain , reminded the judge , is the second country with the highest number of ‘disappeared’, behind Cambodia.

Today it’s more important than ever to remember what happened as fascism is stirred up again to protect corrupt politicians and put down protests at mass poverty.

First lesbian who seeks redress for the Spanish fascist repression is still persecuted for being gay, thereforeshe is known only as M.C.D.

The first lesbian who seeks compensation after being jailed and punished by the Spanish State was sentenced without her counsel making any defense.

M.C.D. feels that she has almost a moral duty to address the media. But she does reluctantly and with limitations: neither her name nor place of residence must be made public.
