General Strike 14-N, Spain: 155 arrests, 77 injured, woman loses an eye.

A woman loses sight in one eye after brutal police charges in Barcelona
A 42 year old woman lost part of her left eye because, supposedly, of the impact of a rubber bullet shot by the Catalan police during yesterday’s demonstration in Barcelona during the general strike.
This has assured the people that attended when injured on the corner of the Plaza de Catalunya and Paseo de Gracia.
This was confirmed by sources of the Hospital de Sant Pau, where the woman was admitted at 21.18 hours on day 14.

The general strike of 14-N resulted in the arrest of 155 people in various incidents throughout the day, in which there were also 77 wounded, as reported by the Ministry of Interior. Of these, 43 were members of the Security Forces of the State, according to sources.

British ban squatting to pamper the 1% :Resistance Actions.

Squatting in empty properties is now a criminal offence, but homeless people say they are being unfairly criminalised.

London, UK – “Todd” was 18 when he came to the United Kingdom from Lithuania in 2005 in search of a better life. But things didn’t work out. By 2009, with the British economy ravaged by recession, he had lost his job and had nowhere to live.

“I had really bad depression so I couldn’t hold a job. I ended up sleeping rough on the streets. My mental health was deteriorating… I had suicidal thoughts,” he recalls.

Todd – an adopted Anglicisation of his Lithuanian name – ended up in Brighton, a town on England’s south coast with a reputation for tolerance, a vibrant arts scene and a homelessness problem. It was there that he began to rebuild his life, finding a vital support network among those squatting in the town’s ample stock of empty and neglected buildings and sometimes opening them up as impromptu galleries and cultural spaces.

“I call myself houseless, not homeless. We are a community and we help each other out,” he explains. “There is a lot of support and there is always somebody to talk to. Living like this, you’re always in control of your own life. You don’t have the money to support yourself food-wise, maybe, but you can go and get it from skips. Climate Criminals to push us over a Cliff: PWC report

Driving much faster to the climate cliff

by Jordan Nichols     A recently released PricewaterhouseCoopers (or PwC) report, titled Too Late for Two Degrees?, suggests that, to meet even a goal of a 4° C increase in global mean temperatures the world must quadruple our current rate of decarbonization.  (Yes, this is that PwC — the “Big 4” accounting firm and the largest professional services firm in the world.) This is the most alarming study I have come across in months.

A 4o C global warming is double the threshold climate scientists will say must not be crossed to avoid disastrous impacts of climate change within this century and beyond.  It will take a massive, concertized international effort by both developed and developing nations to stop short of this ‘climate cliff.’ Continue reading “Climate Criminals to push us over a Cliff: PWC report”

Why the Eurostrike?

..Due to their history of dictators the 1% in South Europe have been able to coerce, swindle, supertax, deprive and overwork us, while stashing billions of our money in tax havens…

The ruling Conservative and liberal parties, both in Spain and in most European Union countries, including the Eurozone, are implementing policies that result in: 1) labour reforms that reduce wages and increase unemployment, 2) the shrinking of the labour force, 3) reduction of social protection, 4) social spending cuts, 5) the privatization of public services and the welfare state, 6 ) the reduction of labour and social rights; 7) cuts to, and privatization  of state pensions, and 8) the weakening of collective bargaining and unions.
