STOP the Uranium Mine: Demo/Mani 26 Nov. en Salamanca

No to the uranium mine, yes to life   ..No a la mina de uranio, sí a la vida
by  José Ramón Barrueco          A company of Australian origin, Berkeley Minera España SL, intends to open several open-cast uranium mines in the province of Salamanca, 40 hectares of a holm oak grove in perfect state of preservation have already been destroyed. The extracted uranium ore would be treated in a concentrates plant in the town of Retortillo, which is also the mining project most developed by the company Berkeley.

The majority of the inhabitants of the area oppose the planned mines due to the negative effects that this activity will entail for the region: explosions with expulsion of radioactive dust into the atmosphere  thec(negative effect of radon gas), tyhe continuous transfer of trucks and heavy machinery, loss of forest, diversion of water courses, etc.

In spite of the neighborhood opposition, the different administrations involved have given their approval to the development of uranium mining in Salamanca. In the case of Retortillo, the actions of the local council have been shameful, preventing a popular referendum that the mayor (of the PSOE) wanted from the polls in the 2015 elections and his replacement  by a party member favorable to the interests of the mining company. Once again they try to attribute different actions to a supposed hierarchial organizational structure, as was done previously in Italy with Operation Osadia. This repressive strategy has been used in a similar way in the Spanish, Greek, French etc states in an attempt to fit the anarchist conflict and its practices into accusations of terrorist or similar organizations. Forty Women killed in Oct ’17 in Turkey: Anti Femicide Report

At least forty women were killed while thirty-two children were subjected to sexual abuse in October 2017, a report by We Will Stop Femicide Platform says.

Twenty-eight women were killed at their homes, mostly by their male partners or family members. Three women were from Syria and one was German.

Istanbul is leading the gender-related violence tables in all categories while Antalya, Aydın, Adana, Antep, Tekirdag, Manisa and Yozgat follows.

Defense Committees in the Catalan Uprising: anarchist style People Power can Win

  
Activists around Europe are buzzing with the  arrival of a new revolutionary force. The Catalan CDRs.. the Republic Defence Committees, characterized by direct, decentralized assembly action. Anarchist organisations except for their aim for a new StateIn just a few weeks over 172 CDRs have sprung up. This is in response to the neo fascist paramilitary repression, jailings and abolition of limited local government. CDRs,, for example in Manresa have called demonstrations up to 5,000 strong a few days after being formed.

The Defence Committees can be traced back to those created by the CNT in the Spanish Revolution to defend the 2nd Republic from  a fascist takeover, which morphed into the revolutionary militias. This time round the CDRs have largely been inspired by the small but influential CUP, a remarkable ‘anarcho-republican’ anti capitalist party.

And then there was the 2nd General Strike on Wed 8th Nov. It was billed as a big flop, called by the tiny CSC, opposed or ignored by all the Trade Unions and faced with massive paramilitary police repression and a pending banning order. Just days before the  Madrid based regime had sponsored  fleets of coaches and even trains to bring in thousands of violent right wing ‘demonstrators’, for a huge demo openly led by thugs sporting swastikas, zieg heils and Francoist symbols.

Is this 1936?? People are pouring out of the barrios and blocking the roads

Nevertheless before 6.00am  on 8th Nov.  thousands of people were blocking the main North -South A7 Motorway from France and Spain in the freezing winter night. Northbound the motorway was closed for over 13 hours at the  La Jonquera French border. Southbound it was still closed at 9.00 pm at Ampolla. Amsterdam: Support ‘We Are Here’ against Eviction Fri 17th

The residents of the Nienoord 2 (squatted since April 17th 2017) received the police letter announcing their eviction: Friday morning 17 November 9:00, their property must be “left empty”. The general meeting of Sunday November 12th has permanently decided: The inhabitants will not leave the house voluntarily.
