Runnymede Eco-Village

Runnymede Eco-Village is situated in the disused woodland of the ex-Brunel university Runnymede Campus owned by the private property developer: Orchid Runnymede.   

We: a group of 15 people, have been living on the Runnymede Campus since June 15th.  The 65 acre campus lies in the Green Belt (although it is designated as a major development site) but since 2007 has lain largely unused.

Orchid Runnymede has been granted planning permission to build ‘luxury homes’, elderly care units and student accommodation on the site.  This plan has attracted concern and criticism from local residents (see this local news article from last year) Continue reading “Runnymede Eco Village.. Cooperative Integrated Catalans Coop is a good example of a work/consume collective with its own credit system. Its  a working tool and use and  buying collective proposing solidarity, a social currency and  building  homes in the middle of the European crisis.

(ANSOL.) – About 70 kilometers from Barcelona, ​​850 Spanish formed a year ago Cooperativa Integral Catalana (CIC), a structure that proposes cooperative thinking and lifestyle combining work and consumption into a single entity.

“The  comprehensive cooperative is a step beyond consumer cooperatives, it seeks also to provide services, creating a network of trust between the people associated that will cover many aspects of his life and a desire to transform” explained legal team responsible for CIC, Gema Palamos, according to the newspaper Diagonal. Farmers in the Midwest and Great Plains have been the hardest hit, but the drought is a growing reality for farmers across the country, including California. While the secretary of agriculture won’t comment on the drought’s link to climate change, it’s at the forefront of everyone’s mind, and as global warming unfolds, knowledge of dryland agriculturewill become increasingly valuable.David Little of Little Organic Farm has had to adapt to water scarcity in California’s Marin and Sonoma counties, where most farmers and ranchers rely on their own reservoirs, wells, and springs, making them particularly vulnerable in years with light rainfall.
